The face looks nothing like Kaidan, and the haircut is different. It's more of a fauxhawk as apposed to the pompadour. It's James Vega.

No...that's Kaidan. It's been confirmed as Kaiden. The smaller, blurrier picture is Vega. But the figure in blue is unquestionably Kaidan, unless Bioware doesn't know it's own characters.

I'm gonna make a prediction about James Vega's class right now:
Ok, we know the Virmire Survivor is returning,and the Virmire Causualty is... not.
So here's what I'm thinking: if Kaiden lived and Ashley died, then James is a Soldier.
If Ashley lived and Kaiden died, then James is a Sentinel.
That way you'll have a full deck, no matter what happened in ME1. He's there to take up the slack.
Does it make sense in story terms? Not really.
Does it make sense for gameplay? Very much so.

Whoa where are all the confirmation that the guy on the right is Kaidan from? Is there any dev post on it? Even though the armor on him is identical to the armor Kaidan is wearing on the screenshot of him with Shep + Liara, it is not necessarily confirmed as Spectre armor. Isn't the Alliance color blue too?  Could it be an Alliance armor instead? Are people inferring to the blue armor as Spectre's because it looks similar to Vasir's? Plus the guy on the right doesn't really look like Kaidan...

With him having the build of a linebacker and being referred to as kind of a tank-type character, I doubt he'd be able to be a Sentinel, one of the non-soldier classes.

Liara can't die and is a permanent squad member, so we have biotics covered. What I'm thinking right now is that he's a Soldier and there will be a new female character who is either a Sentinel to be a direct alternate to Kaidan, or instead is an Engineer, so we're guaranteed a Soldier, an Engineer and an Adept.

@Priisus: The armor is not only identical to Kaidan's, it has the Spectre logo on the shoulder (though it's currently covered in that picture by Vega).

i'd stop thinking of him being restricted into specific "class" setups of shepard.

Grunt isnt any class, i mean you could argue he's a soldier but he's not. same with alot of characters in ME2. whats samara in the class system? whats thane? ect.

you could give vega tank like abilities while having him rock some tech stuff, tech armor maybe?

Vega is not the Big Ben sniper. This was debunked like a month ago and yet people still keep saying it. As for being 'based on him', there's no evidence of that.

Well it is to me , I guess the hair in this scan is uhh... too pointy... (I seriously hate his hairstyle) and the jawline seem so much stronger and more defined.

I have never seen that picture, where is it from? Ok I do see the resemblance to him now (especially the eyebrow) in the blown up version of the pic . But uhh he looks hot...

I didnt read all the posts, so i dont know if its mentioned yet, but im wondering if Vega will be the "main" character if your Shepard died in ME2, (or squad member if Shepard lived)

It's Kaidan all right. Same lips, eyes, nose, baby moustache, and as you've noted, hair. But you're right, he does look a bit more gaunt than I remember, and it looks like his ears are bigger than I remember...

Of course you can always blame the lighting.

  If your custom Shepard died, you will play with the default Shepard.

I think I blame more on how small the image on the scan looks like and it is too low rez to make out the facial features properly. The image of James Vega on the CE promotional image shows him to have a pointy, fauxhawk hairstlye and it is reason enough to cast doubt that the guy in blue could have been Vega instead. I guess we'll have to wait til the devs released a higher version of an image of Vega but now I'm pretty sure that the guy in blue is indeed Kaidan... Makes me wonder just what happened after Horizon, Ash and him went to a barber to try and win back Shep? 

P.S: If the guy in blue is indeed Kaidan, maybe the poster want to remove the link to the image? It had been casting some confusions among some of us here that the guy in blue is Vega, especially when it is posted right next to an image confirmed by the devs to be Vega.

Srsly though, I love how people are so quick to judge and promptly dismiss a characters entire character based on a single terrible, low-res image.

You can't import a save where your Shep died on the Suicide Mission.  They've been saying this for over a year now.

Nice catch! I'm very curious about this new character, it's quite possible the fellow who warns Shep of the Atlas in the trailer-demo is him (the male voice saying "Shepard, heads up!")...

I can only say one thing, some time ago I read someone wrongly calling him"James Vargas"... Some part of me ended up liking this wrong name better than the actual one..

There isn't, if you let Shepard die in ME2 then you're a tool and you don't get to continue your story.

Isn't that from the PSN magazine? Which, is of questionable quality? I doubt anyone from Bioware even made that.

No, that was Wrex, you can hear him a couple of times on the demo.

That's supposed to be Kaiden!?  It looks nothing like him! God, I thought what they'd done with Ash was extreme but at least she's still just about recognisable. Are you absolutely sure that's Kaiden? I think... I think you is joking.
