I am with you.  Why wouldn't they introduce a new character?
You can’t shoot with your hair getting in your eyes.  I invite everyone who doubt it to try.

Try aiming a gun without closing your weaker eye. Ashley's hair is only swept in front of one. ;)

Then again, I'm basing this off a few archery classes.

I haven't had archery classes, but I am an archer and have shot hundreds of arrows.

You can get away with hair in front of one eye. Not two, but definitely one. ESPECIALLY if your hair is not covering your dominant eye.

Not an archer, really. I was talking about firearms.
You supposed to move and shot, your hair won't stay on one side, unless they are glued to your head.
Omnigel haircuts, anyone ?

I'm not a girl so I don't know about hair, but depending on how you hold a rifle it barely even moves your head. Just hold it so that your shoulder takes the brunt of the blow and you should be fine

I just think her current design is a bit of an insult to her character. She went from a heavy hitter, heavy armored soldier, to being a super model showing off the latest fashion.

I will reserve judgement till we either here more or I play the game. And is it even a catsuit? looks more like thin breathable armour to me

Im still hoping that her look was because it was interupted during the trial or something and won't be her usual look for the remainder of the game.

We'll see though once we start seeing gameplay outside of the combat missions, such as wandering the Normandy or the Citadel etc etc.

I hope I am too. Her hair flopping in front of her eyes during combat is going to annoy me as much as Mirandas heels and Jacks string bikini.

Considering that this is most likely an impromptu rescue attempt by the squad on the Normandy of Shepard and Anderson as shown by the photo of Ashley (and trailer), I find it quite possible that in the circumstances, some on board may have been taken by surprise by the s.o.s. and in the rush to get to them, (moments after Anderson sends out the message as shown in the gameplay trailer), they could not change out of their "casual clothes" because there is no time to do so.

War does not wait for you to change your clothes...

No no no.  There will be no logic here.  You just take the logic on down the road.  Bioware sucks.

And you, being an owner of at least three Bioware games, are just trolling around on their forums then, are you?

The problem is that Ashley is not a sniper sitting in a tower and shooting at the husks from afar. She has shoot while running, jumping and the last thing she needs is fixing her hair while she does so. Just tilting your head will limit your eyesight.

I demand the men get equal treatment. Objectification is fabulous when it goes equally on both genders.

Now, did someone suggest a Spartan-esque outfit?

If this were reality that would be logical.  Not so given this is a game.

Based on the previous games, it is far more logical that the suit is, plain and simply, her outfit.  I just don't see them "wasting resources" giving everyone a unique set of casual clothes, as a cat-suit with the Spectre logo on it wouldn't exactly work like the Alliance and Cerberus drone uniforms.  If there happens to be casual clothes it will logically be a standard, universal uniform like all the other games, or it will be the case like in ME2 where the party each has their individual outfit with maybe a recolor of it down the road.

Because even the "alternate appearance packs" are pretty much just recolors of existing uniforms.  It is possible that one of Ashley's alternate appearance packs (maybe the one from the N7 Edition) may be armor, and we have Miranda as evidence to back that up.

But I wouldn't expect to see anything other than the cat-suit in any previews or advertising.  T&A sells.

Well which one?  In ME 2, there was one outfit.  In ME1, there were two.  Just pointing that out.

I'm willing to bet that one of Ashley's other appearance, DLC or loyalty unlocked, will be more armor-like if it isn't like ME1.  Bioware knows people were upset with Miranda and they made a nice DLC.

Yes, but ME1 had a generic casual outfit for everyone, and that was probably in part due to the fact that all armor and clothing was generic based on species.

If they are going to do casual outfits again I don't see them making a new, specific outfit for each squaddy.  And since Ashley's catsuit wouldn't work as a generic outfit that's probably her unique look.  We can only hope for an armored alternate appearance, which isn't unthinkable after all the crap they got for Miranda, though it is a bit concerning that they went ahead with another catsuit in the first place.

I'm frankly disheartened at how they've dressed Ashley, and I'm highly doubting it's just her casual wear given every single image we've seen of her so far is that same outfit. Characters in ME2 didn't really change outfits short of recolors really short of Jack, I'm doubting Ashley will either. I'm just praying this won't be a case of DLC being the only way to get her back in her original armor either, it just seems wrong.

Mass Effect 1 was awesome. For a rare occasion, I got to play a game as a women where my other female companions were dressed in ways that made sense given the situation. I loved it, I enjoyed it. I had a game I could show my female friends interested in gaming that there was more to it than testosterone and overly sexual characters.

Then came Mass Effect 2. Miranda, Jack, and Samara were different. Given the situations the three characters were generally in, their clothes to me didn't make sense to me. Miranda I could handle, her background made it make some sense, but not so much Jack or Samara. Jack frankly made me a bit uncomfortable playing, and having to wait until doing her loyalty mission just to get clothing to cover her a little better was not enjoyable for me. She largely ruined my attempts to get my friends to want to play the game.

And now it seems the one female squadmate known for wearing armor and protests the silliness of light tighter armor could be going down that same route despite showing up in full armor in Mass Effect 2. It really bothers me. It isn't practical, it makes zero sense with her character and personality. I'm a woman and I can tell you it's not practical in the slightest, and if Earth was being attacked I'd be sure to go put on something that would actually protect me and that I could function in rather than look hot in. Heels of any height are super impractical for combat, you want your foot flat; otherwise, your center of balance shifts, and there's a higher chance of twisting your ankle. Frankly I'll be highly considering going back and playing the game and leaving Ashley to die just given I'd rather not see that done to what was a strong female character that wasn't overly sexualized. Changing a character who quite clearly focuses on practicality and is a professional solider to another Miranda sends a bad message as well.

In short I want old Ash back, and am highly disappointed that Bioware's butchering a character just for the age old 'sex sells'. T_T

+1 to this. Hope to see Ash back in appropriate warrior gear like the space marine she is.  If her catsuit is one of several outfit choices, fine, but I really hope the game lets those of us who want our soldiers dressed like soldiers to outfit her in proper armor and sensible boots.

Check the high heels, it's still not battle appropriate attire.
