Huh? I thought Kaidan fans would want him to lose the bulge, considering the crap he takes for being an "Elvis" impersonator

I kid

I would point out that Shepard wasn't wearing armor either in that scene. He and Anderson are in some sort of alliance uniform it looked like. The invasion is just happening so maybe no one has even had time to "suit up" yet.

Alas, that wont stop people from jumping to conclusions based on barely 2 seconds of footage of ASh and crying like little kids who haven't gotten their way fast enough. It's *facedesk* worthy at times on these forums but entertaining. I need to go make some more popcorn.

Actually Shep is wearing armor. The same stuff Anderson is wearing. Some kind of flak jacket.

And like some people already pointed out: Vega, the guy right next to Ash, obviously had time to get into his full Alliance marine armor.

But I'll wait till we see some infight screens with Ash before I start gettin hysterical and scream "Just like Samara! I told you" ;)

That's not Vega, clearly it is Jenkins.

I'm a little confused about why people try to justify sex appeal gear for combat.

If characters are wearing catsuits in the middle of combat/space I can understand some of the complaints about breaks in immersion and pointless fanservice.
If characters wear practical attire in combat, is everyone really going to start complaining that there aren't women in skin-tight outfits running around in the middle of the firefight? How many fans aren't going to pick up the game simply because Ash's style stayed in character?

This.

The lengths people will go to just to have an argument really amaze me sometimes.

Some people don't like the way Ash looks in the trailer, and they're entitled to that opinion. It'd be great if other people could just disagree with that opinion without coming up with a whole bunch of assumptions that "prove" the opinion "wrong".

Fact: Ash looks different.
The rest of this thread is bullsh!t.

It couldn't be they were trying to hide Vega's face under a helmet for a reveal at a latter date.

It was to prove Ashley wears her outfit at all times

I find it humorous how the hatred for Ashley knows no bounds. I'll admit she's hot now, but I can't stand her personality.

They were showing gameplay. Ashley just happened to be the VS in the playhrough the demo guy used.

Shepard and Anderson trying to find a way off the planet.

Then when the Normandy comes...

"We got some familiar friends as well."

"That's right, can see Ashley there. And we got the Normandy, so Joker's probably inside..."

Well, Jacob and Thane wear rather light, form-fitting outfits.

I may be alone in this, but I found Jacob's and Thane's outfits to be just as ridiculous as Miranda's and Jack's.  I guess the eye candy thing does go both ways.  To me the take-home message for Bioware is that clothing and armor should be believable no matter the gender of the wearer.

Quoted for truth. It's not just the female character's catsuits that bothered me in ME2 but the whole new approach they took on squad armor and equipment. I mean, it's just so immersion breaking seeing Jack and Thane running on the battlefield without any protection to the point I was always playing exclusively with Grunt and Zaeed, just for the sake of having some consistency with my Shepards own looks ( male or female )
And the worst part is when you're playing with a Femshep who almost appear like an exception with her N7 armor.

Would it bother players so much if Ashley kept her military armor? Plus she is a Spectre now, she should have the same type of armor that Kaidan is wearing.:?

In all seriousness, if we could create materials that were as thin and flexible as spandex but offered the same protective properties as ceramic plates, we'd use them. There is no reason to take on extra weight if you don't need it.

IMO, we would make standard armors out of such materials. If they could provide that much protection while being very thin, imagine how much more protection a standard thick armor made out of them could provide. ^_^

The only problem I can see is if they were too heavy. But even then, the suits made of them would most probably not look like Ashley's.

+3 (one for each)

Big Ash fan, though I have a soft spot for Liara, there, just under m... nevermind.... but I'm baffled as to how we can get close to 40 pages in one day over one character's 3-second appearance in a promo. On second thought, I'm not baffled at all.

I was already glad I didn't have to see Kaidan again. Seeing Ashley come back like this is just icing on the cake and a swift nutshot to everyone that called her 'ugly,' 'bulldyke' or any other of an array of similarly misogynistic classifications.

The outfit doesn't bother me much. Isn't that standard non-combat Alliance fatigues anyway? You guys who will find anything to complain about are just making fools out of yourselves you know.

I would understand if there was a "cleavage window" in the suit, but there isn't. Deal with it.

The issue is that Ashley's hair and what she was wearing seem very self-conscious and very un-professional for a soldier, or for someone wanting to stay alive in combat for that matter.

In me1 Ashley was all about being a soldier to the core and being emotionally independent and secure in herself etc etc

-> contradiction in character -> scary for fans of Ashley from me1

I'm not worried. I'll wait until she says something contradictory to facepalm.

I don't see why she can't dress like this and be emotionally independant and secure in herself.  Miranda, for instance, has her insecurities, but they're not why she's dressed like that.  And Ashley's new outfit isn't even as bad as Miranda's was.

This. We already have Miranda to run around in a catsuit and be ridiculous with her hair flying in her face, Ashley is a soldier who ties her hair out of her eyes and is in heavy armor because she is a Bad Ass and knows about Bullets.

I'll buy it if Ash was out getting a coffee when The Reapers hit and had no time to tie her hair up/put on armor "Oh S*** Reapers, where's my rifle!"

I look forward to seeing Ash in her combat gear. Right guys? ....right?

Miranda dressed like that to charm people and get stuff done that way.

Ashley would use her fists.

Them turning Ashley into Miranda 2.0 is not something I'd relish.

It could just be her civilian garb.  I'd worry more if her suit was worn in combat for anything other than the escape for Earth where it is supposed to be a mad dash to escape.

Also, If she and Kaidan are spectres now then they don't have to wear military uniforms anymore if they don't want to.  If they aren't spectres, then they are probably off duty and wearing civilian clothing.

I posted something along these lines in another thread but that thread is near the bottom which is the equivalent of dead in these forums lol

According to the Codex armor isn't really very important. There are two layers to armor: an inner fabric which produces the kinetic shields and an outer ceramic layer for objects that are too slow to activate the shields. It seems like Ashley is simply wearing the first, most important, layer.

In ME1 armor was important when it shouldn't have been but they fixed that in ME2 where armor was just something for enemies on higher difficulties due to gameplay reasons, vehicles/Harbinger, and customization. Bioware screwed up in ME1 by giving the perception that armor really was capable of stopping a clip of powerful bullets going at the speed of light and they screwed up in ME 2 by giving the perception that it was safe to have no armor.

I think that Ashley's new look finds a nice middle-ground between the two concepts but they failed yet again by giving Kaidan "Heavy" armor rather than the same suit design as Ashley. I either want them to make Ashley's gear look similar to Miranda's AAP (which looked very advanced) or strip down Kaidan's gear to something lighter.

Remember guys, in ME2 armor was nearly useless. Only certain characters (Shepard, Zaeed, Garrus, Jacob, and Grunt) wore armor but only Grunt acquired any benefits from it. If you look at the main menu you will see there is no third bar for when Shepard loses his shields, there's only health and shield/barrier depending on whether the character is a biotic. This makes the most sense since that armor seems more similar to a modern helmet than Kevlar: something meant to stop shrapnel not bullets. For example: at the end of Project Overlord when the scientist shoots Shepard in the face at point blank with a pistol it's the shield which saves Shepard's life. Not some helmet he may or may not be wearing.

Like I said, story-wise everyone in this universe should be running around in "cat-suits" since ceramic armor is heavy and doesn't add much but if Bioware is really so set on having males wear armor and females not then they should at least upgrade all the female armor to look like Miranda's AAP and explain it ingame as advanced experimental gear.
