Yeah Ashley new look fits her perfectly in my opinion.

She is sexy, compassionate, intimate, and can still kick your ass. Is this not Ashley Williams?

The same girl who recites poetry, sends the "I still love you" apology e-mail,is concerned about an alien LI rival's feelings, embraces Shepard on horizon, the one who makes love to Shepard and then has an intimate scene while being nude on the bed,the one prancing around the SR-1 in tight Alliance Blues? Yea the same soldier girl who has killed countless.

This armor provides that aspect from a first look PoV. Ashley now looks like a strong badass woman who can kick your ass. Not some tomboy.
Ashley's new armor still provides protection while granting w.e. other bonuses there might be to wearing this armor. Also she makes it look good. I say keep her the way she is.(In ME3) It's very practical from a marketing and game development process and in ME3 combat also,so I see no reason to change it at all. (IMO)

So you would deprive a character with an outspoken dislike of normative femininity of her principles for the sake of "marketing and game development process"?
What is that even supposed to mean?

This alleged 'tomboyish' appearance you so vehemently criticise was Ashley Williams as she'd been characterised in two games of this franchise. That visualisation implied a strong female character with ample supplies of experience, integrity and self-respect.

I'm not saying she will be void of these qualities in ME3, but this revision of her physical appearance implies nothing but blatant pandering.
Assuming this is her combat wear, of course. But I find it problematic regardless.

P.S

That ridiculously defensive private message you sent me regarding my quoting you? You know I can't respond if you block me for no reason, right?

P.P.S

I got your PM...you didn't block me? That's very odd, because I get an error message telling me you have when I attempt to reply...
If it's a website hiccup, apologies if I came across as snide in the addendum above. I assumed you were deliberately trying to prevent me from responding...!

She is virtually a tomboy and that shouldn't be changed.  I know tomboys who know who they are and still function as tomboys do.  They dress up from time to time, but ultimately they are who they are.  Many of them are beautiful and despite the moniker don't act like guys in every sense so it seems they don't know they're female.

In any case, how is it that she "now looks like a strong badass woman who can kick your ass" when that was true before?  Because now with a more tight-fitting suit we now get to truly see that she's female and a soldier?

I haven't really been catching up with the conversation, but I just want to say that if she doesn't slap on a hardsuit, I'll be pissed. She looks like Miranda 2.0, which isn't a good thing...

Copy & paste...

I've got an idea that will fix this.  Keep her hair down, but put heavy
armor on everybody except Liara and Kaidan. But of course, it's up to
BioWare.

While I'm not complaining about her new look its just seems kinda weird. She always was kinda this practicality first prettied up second.

I think its because she caught a good look of Miranda and thought "Alright, time to kick it up a notch."

It does seem like she saw Miranda on Horizon and went, "Two can play that game, Cerberus!" :P

That was ME 1.  In ME2, everyone wears the same outfit.  In battle.  On the Normandy.  Walking around the hub worlds.  And in the tutorial on Lazarus Station.  The only way you could change (and eventhen, a simple reskin) was to A) unlock the loyalty outfit B) buy an Alternate Appearance Pack C) use textmod to replace the outfit with something else.

Actually, the only human Alliance personnel onboard the Normandy was Shepherd in ME2, and even that is iffy. Miranda and Jacob were both Cerberus personnel and therefore civilians, even if Jacob was former military. Also, aboard the second Normandy, Shepherd does not wear his/her armor. Shepherd wears the Cerberus pant/shirt combo on default. If you want to be nitpicky. The non-human squad members have always only had one outfit, outside of cutscenes.

I agree that what Ashley is wearing in this scene doesn't seem to be class-appropriate, but perhaps the outfit has more stats than able to be scene from the cut-scene if it's her usual armor. There's no way of knowing that right now.

Seriously, I don't want to be forced on that train.  Thanks for the support, but next time please be a bit more tactful about how you show it.  Of course that is, if that's your intention.

Sigh. I give up. Too much arguing for me. But I hope all of this complaining doesn't end up changing Ashley's hair in the final version of the game.

I really don't think her character is ruined......in fact she has potiental to replace Samara as my Queer Dear.

I like to think....Ashley matured.

Yeah, it sucks to be a gamer who's experience with a game isn't totally ruined by character reskins. I wish I could find a minor detail in games that could send me on a zealous warpath and rendered me unable to enjoy a game because of the stick wedged firmly in my ass.

They won't. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/wink.png[/smilie]
I'm sure Ashley will also have armor just to make all the complainers here shut up.

Sorry I was out of line. (Bioware community)

LiqiudGrape. I do not think it deprived her character in anyway. I like her new appearance and think she will be the same character from the other games. Your opinion will not change mine. So can we leave it as is?

No worries. My last comment at the top of the page may have come off as needlessly harsh in parts as well I was a bit peeved at what I thought was a conscious attempt to remove any possibility for me to respond.
If that wasn't the case, my apologies.

But I think you'll find that I never really say the redesign necessarily deprives Ashley of her character. I actually address that point near the end.

...I'm not saying she will be void of these qualities in ME3, but this revision of her physical appearance implies nothing but blatant pandering...

Rather, I fear that the design undermines the character by evoking the direct opposite of what she's always claimed to be.
If BioWare can believably pull off the transition and make it a reasonable change, more power to them.
But I am very skeptical. And I am worried.

However, we can certainly leave our particular differences at that.

I think the real proof that Ashely's new outfit, if it is indeed full time combat wear, is fanservice gear is the fact that Kaiden is wearing proper armor. Unless Bioware intends to retcon-switch their two classes and somehow make their backstories work(able), it makes absolutely no sense that the soldier gets a cat suit, or at least light armor when the sentinel gets a full suit of combat armor. It's very unlikely that Ashely will get proper armor out of alternate appearances however, since she's been promoted as wearing the catsuit, which is unfortunate in my opinion.

Indeed.  If the outfits were switched, it would be great.  heavy armor for soldier, light for the sentinel.

But no, Ash is female, and that fact must be milked for all its worth.

Depends.  Is it sad that I can say I was an Ash fan before it was cool to be one?  :P

I said this in another thread, but I'm about 95% sure that BioWare is releasing "Heavy Armor" for Ash as DLC just like they did with Miranda. If you look at the "Collector Edition's" features, it includes an Alternate Appearance Pack for Ashley, Kaidan, Liara, and James. It can't be coincidence.

If I have to preorder, pay extra and/or wait months for Ash to look like, well, Ash,I will be extremely disappointed in Bioware.
