An amalgamation of the two is pretty much what she is and a functional amalgamation of the two outfits should be all that someone with Ashley's apparent personality traits needs, but that is clearly not the case. Face it, the women in this game were always intended to look like.....women. BioWare's art team simply got better.

So those two do not look like women? You have a rather sexist view of what a woman should look like and do, I must say. You have lost my respect. Not sure you had it in the first place but you get the point.

Oh, yes. Of course this is why people like her new look. I know that is why I want it! Forget that I am an adult! When I want to see hot action, I turn on a video game! It could be that, or I don’t know…I happen to like it? It’s visually pleasing? I think a woman can be both sexy and strong? I didn’t get the memo that said if your bra size surpassed a C-cup, you lost any and all descriptions of being a bad-ass.

Try not to make sweeping statements, please. And putting down people in that manner paints a picture of someone who is immature--the exact image you’re trying to place upon certain gamers with those generalizations.

I want you to point out to me which one goes into combat. Then tell me which one goes for long walks into vacume to repair essential equipment.

Then I want you to look me straight in the eye and tell me Ashley is equpped to do either.

@Nashiktal : From what I can tell, what Ashley has been shown to wear in ME3 looks just as protective as female medium armour in ME1. It is not, however, also a spacesuit.

Ironically medium armor in ME1 is kinda the reverse of what Ashley is wearing now. The armor in that picture has ceramic armor over the breasts, while Ashleys new armor looks like rubber.

Not an amalgamation but more of an offtake of what is referred to as "class A" uniforms. These are used as formal attire for military personnel.  From we know of thus far, this is just the trial that we have seen her in thus far and a class A uniform is something that an officer/soldier would wear to such an occassion.

Yep. And the thing is: realistically, neither were any of the armors in Mass Effect one, heavy or no.

I don't know what the hell you're talking about man.

People have been saying that Bioware have simply made her look like a more 'strong' and 'confident' woman.
I however as a 'cynical man' can't help but think that Bioware choosing to significantly increase her bust size, replace her armour with a catsuit and 'pretty' up her hair is for nothing but pure sex appeal.

That's not that far out of an idea is it?

In Massadonious1's defense, you are grossly misunderstanding his point. He could have stated it better, but he is trying to say that Ashley's armor in Mass Effect has always been form fitting and much more accentuating of her figure than the outfits of real military personnel or astronauts. If we want to get serious about Ashley's outit in ME1, she is lacking many items the female soldier in the picture has, such as load bearing equipment.

Nashiktal says

I want you to point out to me which one goes into combat. Then tell me which one goes for long walks into vacume to repair essential equipment.

Then I want you to look me straight in the eye and tell me Ashley is equpped to do either.

And really, that's Massadonious1's point. Compare Ashley's armor in ME1 to those pictures. If you really think about it (and I have been saying this quite a bit) the differences between Ashley's ME1 and ME3 outfit are smaller than people are imagining them to be, because female (and male) armor in the Mass Effect series has always been form fitting.

This post captures my point:

ok don't know how many times i'm gonna have to say it. Space Kevlar plus advanced armored plates plus advanced shields equals great armor with good mobility.

And this technologie is only available to women because....?

Not even available to women. FemShep can't even get in on that. (My dude Shep would kill for a set personally. He gets tired of lugging around that massive armor). Worst part is Shepard would be able to afford something like that before Ash would. <_<

Ohhh add please add some salt in these wounds!! Actually you know what, great point, if Ashley can get a totally hot blue skin tight suit my Femshep wants one too.

Depends on what your definition of sex appeal is. If every time you see something sexy, you automatically have a physical reaction to it--then yes? I see lots of people I think have sex appeal and I don’t ever have to “excuse myself” because of it. I have never had a physical reaction to a video game, and I have seen sexy characters. To say that they added that so people can get their kicks is--to me--a sweeping and dramatic generalization. Sometimes things can be visually pleasing without having to utilize a book or cushion.

And to lump anyone and everyone who finds her hair and armor pleasing into the category of the “Umm…ooops, be right back!” is insulting.

Nor do I most of the time but that doesn't stop it from being the intention behind the sex appeal.

It's not that far-fetched to suggest that sex appeal that is there just to 'look good' is purely there to appeal to one's hormones is it?

I have never had a physical reaction to a video game, and I have seen sexy characters. To say that they added that so people can get their kicks is--to me--a sweeping and dramatic generalization. Sometimes things can be visually pleasing without having to utilize a book or cushion.

So than what reasoning do you have for Bioware's decision to increase Ash's bust size, sex up her armour and pretty up her hair (despite it being impractical) that is not purely because they wanted her to be more sexy?

And to lump anyone and everyone who finds her hair and armor pleasing into the category of the “Umm…ooops, be right back!” is insulting.

Maybe you're just too easily insulted by comments on the internet.

So, making someone look a bit more “sexy” is done explicitly to engage hormones for physical reaction? Bioware intentionally wants “the average” gamer to look at Ashley’s conservative look, imo and think have the need to place a book in front of “it”? I think they want her to be have appeal. Be that visual or sexual is dependant on the person viewing her.

Maybe you're just too easily insulted by comments on the internet.

Oh, wow! You really figured me out there! Your perception of the situation is top shelf, sir! If I weren't so insulted by that statement, why...I might think it simply amusing or point out that finding something generally insulting is not the same as finding something personally insulting. Unless of course, you meant it to be personally insulting? In that case...well I am insulted by your interweb comment!

Not 'explicitly' but yes I'd say that is the primary intent behind the change.
That is why most female character's are presented sexily is it not?

I'm guessing they thought Ashley wasn't attractive enough for the average gamer thus they decided to sex her up so she'd be more appealing.

I thought she was a beautiful character before and I think so now, as well. As it’s been pointed out countless, and countless times: we already have Miranda. We have Tali who was poured into her suit. Jack who is basically topless when you meet her. I don’t see them sitting around brainstorming saying.

“Gee, you know what? Ashley looks like a dark-haired Gary Busey. Let’s give her different hair and clothes so more guys will get ragers looking at her dirty pillows!”

It could simply have been the fact that they wanted a new updated look for her. Female Shepard is suppose to get some new hair styles if I am not mistaken. We’re suppose to get some new customization for armor (I think). It could be something minor and simple. It could be that they used the “new look” as a visual cue to show personal growth and change. It could be that they now have a new player base who isn’t privy to Ashley’s old look and thought they would update her for them, or so that she would be more cohesive with the rest of Shepard’s crew. It could be a lot of things, but to jump to conclusions over a screen shot is a little ridiculous on any side of the equation.

If you weren't so busy making snarky comments earlier, you would know that I already answered the latter part of your statement.

I don't know if it can function as a hardsuit (or even if that is what she plans on wearing in space/vaccum) because we've seen approximately 5 seconds of her in it. Let me know when actual details start rolling out and we can have an honest conversation of what it can or can't do.
