When I heard that her writer left, I begun to have some bad feelings. Granted, I don't think he could have done much if the brass was gonna change her anyway but then at least he could have barracked for her some.
Still gonna hope for the best and a suitable alternate that I can slap onto her.

My concern with the new Ashley look is this. If that is her real armor, then how the hell do you put a helmet on in a vacuum or hostile environment? From its looks, I fear we are going to be treated to more imbecilic and childish depictions of humans and aliens on a chlorine saturated world with a simply oxygen mask.

Although she hasn't responed yet, this is my response -

Pretty reasonable, no?

I don't tweet, but I made an exception and did the re-tweet thing with yours.

For all who thinks skin thight suits are not for combat, here's a little dialoge from the "post your own inter party banter" thread:

*During suicide mission after the second fire team makes it through the door*

Miranda: Off *is shot in the stomach*

FShep:Miri, are you alright? I told you to wear armor, but no you wouldn't listen, better for my mobility and biotics. Now you're gonna die because I'm out of medigel I forgot to upgrade my capacity and harbingers been spamming fireballs I'm so stupid!

Miranda: Um, Shepard, I'm fine see *no blood*

Shep: but...?

Miranda: my suits made of industrial kevlar and titanium fabric. You could shoot a flame thrower at me below the neck and I'd be untouched. It takes at least a headshot to kill me, now we've got some collecotrs to kill.

Shep: *jaw hits the floor*

I think this is the suitable explanation behind Miranda's (and Ashley's) suit. Besides that thread is full of win, so go check it out.
And to top it, the light armor from ME1 is not even thicker then Miranda's, but nobody complains for that.

After the Mass effect games i will no longer purchase Bioware games, and the reason is because of their new found "artistic vision".

Question: would mass effect series be this huge if ME1 was like ME2 ?

See, I like everything about ME1 it's in my top 3 games, but I didn't hate ME2.  It's a fun game and I still play both.  I even like the way Ash looks and wouldn't mind having a casual outfit for Kate Shepard - to wear on the ship.  But I do agree the new found artistic vision is BS and I do want something more practical when they are on a mission.

For me, if the ME3 ending works and the game is fun, I'll still buy future single player games if they look interesting.

It is not, because it makes every other armor pathetic. Why would anyone wear heavy and uncomfortable armor when light catsuit gives same level of protection?

Besides that thread is full of win, so go check it out.

It's full only of fan dreams.

Yes, but this is her armor. Someone just told me about a tweet they read that pretty much confirms this. So arguing the merits for or against is pretty much a moot point now. I like her armor. You don’t. A lot of people like her armor. A lot of people don’t.
It's not moot until it goes gold.  I have no intention of stopping til that happens or Bioware releases more information that can actually makethis palatable for me.  And I hope Bioware realises that this outfit is not being received with universal acclaim...

Hopefully she’ll be the same Ashley that we love. I know that I won’t let such a minor detail give me any annoyance as long as she remains the same character and I hope no one else will either. Sometimes people focus so much on the forest, they miss the trees.
But...I am focusing on a tree.  An Ash tree.  Someone stripped the bark from it...
Sorry if you disagree, and I hope you can still enjoy the game for what it is. I am really happy that she is keeping this armor, but sorry you'll be upset about it, Iakus. :-/
To tell the truth, it will hurt.  A lot.  A lot of squadmates in ME 2 never saw the light of day save for their loyalty missions because I found I could not take them seriously due to their outfits.  And those actually matched their personalities.  This outfit doesn't even do that.  I may still get the game, but I will probably hold off on purchasing it. for a few months.   I was on the fence anyway, but this could be the dealbreaker.

Wow.

Just.

Wow.

I found the original tweet incredibly rude, and her response totally dismissive of fan concerns.

I must be an uncouth barbarian for daring to question their "artistic vision"
My concerns about character consistency and lore adherence must mean I'm a book-burner.
Oh, the shame!  I'm just the game-player eagerly awaiting Ash's return since the Horizon scene in ME 2.  To think I had the audacity to have an opinion!  And tried to articulate it!
I must eat puppies too.

Well here's my response to anyone "in the know":  Prove me wrong.

That's right.  I've been wrong before.  I was apprehensive about the omniblade and its place in ME lore.  One tweet from Patrick Weekes set me on the path to accepting it.  Tell me why it makes sense for her to go from medium-heavy armor to Spectre-Lite gear.  Especially with Kaidan in the heavy stuff?  Convince me the character hasn't been changed to fit some new "vision".  What am I missing?  What is this "artistic vision?" Is it part of her arc?  Will she pull an "Aveline"?  WIll the change be noted in-game?  Don't blow off my concerns without telling me why it's wrong.

So what is it?  What's the Mass Effect reason?  Or is it really a Mass Appeal reason?

Yes that tweet hit a berserk button on me.  If this crosses a line, I apologize.  But I try to be reasonable and explain why I believe what I do about the game and it characters  This cavalier attitude just...disturbs me.
I agree with you 100%.
I do like the way Ash looks, and if she just wore something cute/hot on the ship I might wonder about it but I'd be ok with it, in fact I'd probably want an outfit for Kate Shepard.  But I dislike this idea that women have to be sexy when they are on a mission where they will be shot at, and their partner is in full body armor.
I also had a problem taking some of the ME2 team on missions after my first play though and I found out what they wear.  I can only suspend my belief up to a point and ME2 did push that to the limit.

I would like to see them give us different armor options, and maybe they will but until they say something, I'll also keep complaining.  :)

Yes.  They must put on some kind of super clear plastic makeup that protects their faces from melting.

"Artistic Vision" Lol, bull****... Christina better just be trolling.

Hey, I find Ash looks pretty hawt in that outfit, of course, but I'd never want to send her in to battle like that... geez, add a few extra plates on there and seal that gap up on her chest, and she'll be ready to go out to the front lines again. The Ash we all know and love from ME1 ridicules outfits like that, too. Why would she suddenly sacrifice practicality and her own safety for the sake of some 'sex appeal vision'? I'd have no respect for someone who would do something so damn stupid...

Anyway, just putting this out there...
In her new super catsuitified armor, has anyone noticed that it looks like she's wearing what resembles stockings and a mini-skirt at a glance?
Image IPB
Because that's what I thought I saw when I first glimpsed her in the preview, and now every time I see this... well, what has been seen cannot be unseen... o.O
Absolutely terrible. Pure sex-appeal with no consideration for the character the costume is for.

"Artistic Vision"... you mean "Sex Appeal Vision" m i rite?
Ash's costume artist is an idiot who needs to take his hands out of his pants.

Not hard to put a helmet on, the front part is sealable, I've spotted at least three clasps on that portion and what looks like an inner ring. Attach the helment to the ring and seal.

Too far, you may not like the look but to make that kind of inflamatory statement is cruder and more juvenile than you're accusing Bioware of being.

Just because I'm crude and inflamatory, doesn't automatically excuse BioWare.

Leave the polite arguments to everyone else. I'll just speak my mind no matter the consequences.

Considering we have yet to hear the why she's dressed like this or see how they've handled her character, Bioware currently has more credit than you do. They've been tolerent and respectful of people's opinon. The worst thing any of them has said is that they don't compromise artistic vision. You made a statement that was far less charitable, so you are the one that's gone to far.

Leave the polite arguments to everyone else. I'll just speak my mind no matter the consequences.

If you can't talk in a civil manner then don't bother, hurling insults at people accomplished nothing, just makes you look unreasonable.

If I were to tell you that Ashley's new armor was forged in the same manner as the SR2's improved armor, what could you say?

If I told you that Kaiden's L2 Biotics made it impossible for him to wear the same kind of armor what would you say? Even better, Sinc Kaiden is forced to use an inferior Biotic system, he might need an exoskeletal support system to be at peek effectivness. So he needs bulkier power armor becuase his L2 biotics are hindering his physical abilites. Why? because when the collectors froze him, the screwed his biotics up royal. And before you say that's impossible, absolutly no one who survived being frozen by the Collectors was biotic. We don't know what that would do to them in the long term.

A clasp is not a pressure seal.  I sure as hell am not just buttoning my shirt to enter hard vacuum.  As casual wear, the suits fine.  Hell, let her run around naked in a safe environment but in a battle?  Ashley would be in the heaviest armor available.  The suit just makes no sense to a character like her unless, like most of ME1, she too was retconned.

It's one portion of the seal, there's another one under the clasps, so both together should keep Ash nice and safe

Sure because Ash couldn't possible change and grow as a person. I mean it's impossible for her to gain new skills and perspectives that might lead her to ditch heavy armor for something lighter, and more flexible.  [/sarcasm]

Hey, Kaidan wore light armor is ME - what was he wearing in ME2? Medium armor. What about ME3? Heavy armor. Why? Because its clearly superior to don a full suit of thick, protective armor than run around fighting enemies witha v-neck and spandex.

People seem to forget Christina Norman is the Lead Gameplay Designer.
