Was that... ...Ashley?

I can't believe this thread is still going on about Ashley's look. Which is - the circumstances considered - just for the occasion. That is Shepards trial and any sensible person would go for a trial in a suit that makes her/himself look good. And, as she is professional, Ash wouldn't say "wait guys, before we fly in for Shepard, I need to change into my battle armor". She didn't had the time for that.
And Bioware can end this debate right now by confirming that this is the case (as much as this debate can be ended at this point) I've heard nothing do far. Have you?
But even if that is her combat armor, the game takes place in the future. Do you haters really think that 170 years in the future, they wouldn't come up with a material that super durable, but thin as a cloth?
See Bluko's excellent post about military hardsuits. That's what armor of the future is made of. Before they became superhero costumes, anyway.
Yes and maybe.

Hadn't thought of that.
Don't like the suit so much now...
Yep good to know Ashley doesn't need a proper suit to land on alien worlds or wear helmet if she goes in to space. I mean really when would we ever fight have to fight in space or something? This isn't Science Fiction. If we fight in space all the Characters can just wear a breather mask and maintain an atmosphere with their magic Biotics.
Good thing to know Ashley's attire is only useful in Earth-like environments.
But hey it's not like Shepard has ever had to fight in vacuum environments! Oh wait...

I'm trying to be reasonable about my criticism.
All I'm hoping is that we'll have the option to have our squad wear realistic attire when going into hazardous environments, and combat situations. Is that too much to ask?
I don’t think it’s too much to ask for at all. I understand most of the concerns. On the other hand, it isn’t too much to believe that some people like her new look and are okay with the new look as long as the stats and upgrades offer adequate protection. Realism in a game is subjective. You may want to see someone wearing heavy armor because visually it tells you that he/she is protected. While others would be okay seeing lighter armor that is more aesthetically pleasing as long as it offers sound protection.
Not everyone who likes Ashley’s new look does so because it’s a “omg she looks so sexy!”
It seems to be a balance between what's practical and what looks good. But would it be odd to say that I thought outfits could seem practical And aesthetically pleasing? Shep's armor isn't complained much about for one thing, and I've kind of liked Liara's new outfit. (though I'd prefer if she had a helmet instead of a mask)
Personally, I didn't really like the overall design of some outfits, like Jack's or Samara's. So I found it kind of ironic that people said they were sacrificing realism to make them look cooler, when I didn't even think the design looked good as casual wear. I guess it bothers me a bit that I was supposed to automatically prefer the spandex and exposed cleavage styles to the old ones, and there wasn't much say in the matter with squad customization downgraded. So I can understand opinions saying it was forced fanservice.
If you like the less armored look like this, that's fine, but I can hope that those who preferred the old style, or find it unrealistic, aren't forced to use it the whole time.

Absolutely!! That's what the designers are telling us, hells Christina said the main protective element in suits are the mass effect fields (shields) Well AWESOME! Give Shepard a catsuit too or the level of disappoint won't be matched (by myself). Not that anyone's going to care mind you what Femshep looks like compared to Ash. And no one's going to care that with all this talking about ASh's serious lack of hardware Kaidan the biotic who's able to generate his own fields is stomping around in massive armor....
I REALLY hope there's some GREAT RP reason why this is the case Bioware.

Something I can agree with the whiners on are high heels. Miranda's shoes were just stupid. However I've seen no evidence of Ashley wearing high heels in ME3.
If you look at the still photo of her, blow it up so it becomes really grainy and blurred, close your eyes and click your own high heels together and recite "there's no shoes like heels!" 3 times you'll have probably managed to imprint the idea so fimly into your mind that that is indeed what you are seeing.
Why would ANYONE?! Oh I know, because according to Christina, they feel like it....
Better be good reasons why that is or the hate thread post launch won't compare to this.

Why indeed? Why is Shepard not wearing it? Oh, right, iconic. Well that just leaves Kaidan, Garrus, Liara, this James Vega guy, and everyone else who may appear in the game in an actual hardsuit.

Ah so we're in agreement, Ashley's new lighter suit can do everything a hard suit can do, and thus there's no reason for her to wear a bulky hard suit. I'm glad we cleared that up.
I figure Kaiden, being an L2 Biotic needs something extra provided by his suit. That said, The Alliance is going to hand out standard gear to most of their grunts (Like James Vega) and save the good stuff for special ops (like say Human Spectres)
Garrus
Dosen't have the money or resources to gain that kind of advanced customized armor, and we don't have the specs for Turian designed gear.
Liara
A suit, but more like Kasumi's full body wear, than a hard suit. Actually, the stomach area seems to have ridges similar to the ones on Ashley's chest armor in ME 3
James Vega
Hasn't seen the larger universe and is likely unaware of his options.

Like say, form-fitting leather suits for Shepard and Kaidan?
WTF are you on about? If the light suit is functionally the exact same as a hardsuit, provides the exact same amount of protection, why would Kaidan get anything "extra" from his hardsuit? Unless the Alliance wanted to hook Ashley (a lower-ranked marine) up with better armor than a higher-ranked marine?

NO we are NOT in agreement, all you are doing is bending yourself backwards to make sense of these silly decisions.
IF lightsuits can do everything a hardsuit can, I WANT ONE for Femshep and if she doesn't get one I will call bullsh'it on this whole thing and give you the real reason why things are like this:
Girl squaddie gotta be purty let's give them cute spandex and hair that falls on their face 'cause that's like soooo sexy!
Boys are badasses! Let's put them in strong armor that depicts just how manly they are! yay! I like boys
I hope this isn't the case but that's the general vibe I'm getting right now, somebody prove me wrong, for the love of all that's great and Mass Effect.

Because's he's a sentinel and uses both Tech and Biotic abilities, which can be supplemented by certain suit upgrades, which may take space, need extra power sources, etc.
