It's well within reason for her to decide to wear lighter armor, especially if it protects just as well as the heavy stuff.

If light armor is just as protective as heavy armor, then why would any of the other characters be wearing heavy armor?

Perhaps their heavy armor is on equal level with her light armor.

Just a thought.

But yes, this. And this is how it should be for ALL concerns. Never stop shouting them, because they WILL be heard.

Its why we're getting helmet toggles in 3 like we had in the original.

Have a nice day.

Your insitance that others are being irrational comes off as dismissive.

Maybe because it's expensive. Like silaris armor for the ships

Since the devs frequent these forums I bet all these complaints might actually make an impact. Even if in curret builds shes wearing light armor they could easily change her model to wear heavier armor and have the light armor as a dlc.

Maybe it's rare. Maybe it's a prototype. Maybe it's really expensive.

Then why would Ashley have access to it but not Kaidan?

Well, if that's the best for them, it works.

For example, I'm a lean guy. If I'm going into a combat situation, I DO NOT want the heaviest armor available. I need something that can keep me lithe and mobile. I need to AVOID fire, not sit and TAKE it.

Ash was definitely a tank in ME1. Maybe her role in battle has changed in ME3. Maybe when she became a Spectre she decided to be stealthier and switched from Heavy to Light or Medium.

There could be any number of reasons for the change. I'd just like to know what the reason is, and I mean the in-game reason, not the metagame, "artistic vision" reason.

I don't know what's more messed up, how drastically Ashley's image changed or the fact Kaidan looks like Barney Calhoun from Half-life 2 now...

Edit:typo

Kaidens armor might be special as well. It might be designed to help an L2 biotic (which are inferior) to do much more with their powers than would normally be possible. The price is reduced mobility.

Ashley is the one obsessed with having good armor? Or maybe since Kaiden is a Sentinel he prefers bulkier armor to facilitate upgrades or larger power sources for his Tech and Biotic abilities?

I don't think you're a troll, I just think you're acting irrationally.

Blah blah blah history whatever and all that, but we still don't know. Too many assumptions being made with limited information.

I don't think I'm being irrational.

I'm operating based on how ME2 handled outfits.  And to a degree, Dragon Age 2 as well.  That highly suggests. that there will be either no options, or very few options for players to alter Ash's look (and those options will likely cost extra).  No, I do not know this for a fact.  I also don't know that it won't snow tomorrow.  But I can be pretty sure it won't.

Now I know that other characters have grown and changed, and their looks have changed too:

Garrus became a bad**** vigilante, got himself some scars and battle damaged armor (which seems to have gone away in ME3, and he looks like he's wearing Spectre armor too, come to think of it)

Tali became a quarian adult, got minor changes in her enviroment suit's color and style.

Liara became the Shadow Broker, got a suit of white armor and a jacket

Wrex became a clan chief, got a suit of grey armor and a spiffy stone throne.

Ash and Kaidan, all we know is they're Spectres now.  That doesn't explain the radical new armors.  Armors Ash's old personality would have scorned to wear.  I fear that more might have been done to them.  Or worse,  that the new look will pass completely without comment in the game.

ME2 saw several inexplicable things happen that went pretty much without comment:  The existence of the Lazarus Project.  Cerberus suddenly being a far more benevolent secret organization that puts their logo on everything, and the whole "Ah, yes, 'Reapers'" scene  just to name a few.  Every bit as terrifying as Ash/Kaidan being greatly altered during the story is that these changes will go without comment by Shepard.

As you can tell, I'm no fan of ME2's story, or how the transition from ME 1 was handled.  I'm fresh out of trust for Bioware concerning this. I cannot assume that "everything will work out fine"  I need to know.

And the callus, dismissive "embrace change, your opinion doesn't matter" atittude I'm seeing from the developers of all people really bothers me.

In all seriousness now, I was glad they changed Liara. It annoyed me a bit her victim personality in ME1. She was the innocent daughter of an important asari (sort of like a "princess"?), you had to rescue her and she was all awkward and immediately interested in Shepard. "I wanted to know more about you, so I looked your profile without telling you". Creeped me out a bit.

In ME2 she's a different person, but there's a reason for that. Two years later she's emancipated, lives an independent life and has gained daily experience in a cutthroat business like the information industry. Alright there's an explanation for her change. And personally I like that change a lot.

Now, applying that to this case with Ashley. What reason would she have as a soldier, a spectre or whatever she is now to use a hairdo that covers one eye? We know she was the infantry grunt with a boomstick in ME1&2. Obviously she's not like that anymore, okay. What happened?

Superfast technological breakthroughs and convenience reasons sound like handwaving because they are all special pleading kind of arguments that apply specifically and solely to her, and so they aren't solid. "Maybe the light clothing protects as much as heavy armor", "maybe she doesn't need a lot of pockets to keep tech contraptions like Kaidan", "maybe Ashley is too weak now" and all that. No, what you need is a character-based explanation that doesn't affect the lore regarding what we know about armor and classes now. Something like "now that I'm a spectre and I totally love the council, I want to move on from my past as a grunt" or similar. Psychology.

I've read in this thread that Bioware responded when something similar happened with a warrior in DA2. There was an explanation. Maybe it would be nice if someone from Bioware told us "There's a reason why she has changed her style and it has to do with blahblahblah" as well. No spoilers, just a hint letting us know that this is justified. That they haven't done this so she looks omg so hawt for the kids.

There is no precendent for anything like that in either of the current games.
It strikes me as way too contrived/convenient.

It is, in fact the exact opposite of what we've seen in both games:  Biotics are typically far more lightly armored than the "pure soldiers"

There is just too much we don't know at this point for anyone to draw any valid conclusions as you quite sarcastically seem to have done, concerns yes, but not conclusions.

And that's why I am extremely concerned. Do you really think Bioware plans on having multiple outfits for characters in-game? Or are they going to repeat ME2 do you think? (We are getting Appearence Pack DLC again.) So far from what I have seen they haven't exactly strayed that far from what they did in ME2. I don't entertain wishful thinking that Bioware is going to give us the option to have squadmates in different armor. All they have to say is Ashley will have a suit of heavier armor available and I'll rest my case. Seems pretty simple. Heck they could just even lie. Obviously those of us who take issue with Ashley's lack of armor are an insignificant minority of whiners anways. Why not just silence us if what we arguing for is so trite?

I never expected ME2 or ME3 to be exactly like ME1 again. I'm not asking all my squadmates return as my squad members again or anything like that. I'm not even asking for the Mako return. I'm just asking, plea'ing I guess at this point, for Bioware to give the squadmates I will have some kind of appropriate armor. Why is this such an unreasonable request in lieu of all the other thing everyone else here seems to demand? Some people wanted melee weapons and they got those. You're telling me my arguement for wanting a character to wear armor is more petty then the all the character request threads?

So if I want squadmates to wear actual armor it apparently goes against their artistic vision. Apparently the idea of squadmates wearing some kind of plated armor is too absurd or out-of-line? But wanting ME2 squadmates to return isn't?

I guess I'm not a real fan as it were since I'm more interested in the setting and universe itself. Fine, whatever, if all we care about is squadmates is being "cool" and "good looking" I guess that's all that really matters then. I won't object anymore. Put characters as in much or little armor/clothing you want Bioware. I don't think I'll really care anymore.
