Now while I know the FMV in the trailer on http://www.origin.com/ is probably trailer exclusive and won't appear in game, I really like the idea of having short FMV sequences in ME3. It really adds another layer of realism when you see a FMV like the one in the trailer.

Anyone else agree?

Full Motion Video.

Personally I think the in-game engine is perfectly capable of pulling this off - although an intro movie is always nice.

Oh sorry. Full motion video (actual recorded video), like in the Command and Conqueror series.

Full Motion Video. Like the one that appears in a while in ME2's "Press any key" screen if you're afk. I guess.

Isn't live action where there are actors? I believe he means that the graphics for the cinematic are about the same as the game, and the cinematics are mostly in-game, like where you pressed y to look at the object of interest. What ever you call it, and if that is what you are talking about, I like it.

That is a damn good trailer however I don't think it would be out of place in game

EDIT: just realised that I added a Don't when I didn't mean to :crying:

It's okay to be used in a trailer - but in-game? No effin' way. Would completely and utterly ruin the immersion if you ask me.
In-game - cutscenes and gameplay - should all be built with the same engine in my opinion.

Easy. I'm not suggesting using it for gameplay (is that even possible?) or cutscenes. But maybe an intro or intermezzo of some kind, of course not with Shepard or anyone important.

I generally dislike FMV for games. It detracts horribly for me. Seeing real actors, then going to a game its... I dunno, bizar. Now seeing the trailer with that and realizing they're doing a ME movie as well. Well... Thats all I thought of when i saw that trailer was 'Oh yeah theres a movie too'. Not "oooh this games going to be awesome!'. Hell the game was the last thing on my mind when I saw that.

All the other game stuff though...freakin' looks just crazy. I can't wait to play that.

That all aside if its used as an intro? Sure, its still a bit more jarring then a CGI intro movie but not by much. Though I tend to find CGI intros more impressive and inspiring then actual real people kinda thing.

Nice reference!

Maverick was a beast in Wing Commander. Mass Effect can learn a thing or two from wing commander, but I don't think FMV is one of them. Maybe crew banter though.

I get the feeling he's saying that was all the game engine...not ripped out of the "Universe" like, say. FF7s FMVs...but instead using the in game models and whatnot...

For shame.. Full Motion Video.

How can someone in the video game industry not know this? (Granted, it's dated and seldom used anymore... but still).

After watching Spoony's FMV Hell videos, I can't look at any FMV with straight face.

It would be out of place really.

While I agree it would be out of place if it's put directly into the game, I think making something like Cerberus Daily News from ME2 into FMV sequences with correspondents going to different places could fit in nicely.

Of course it would be far to expensive to be viable.

The OP is talking about this trailer which isn't in-game models

Nah, I'd rather have visual consistency by having all the cutscenes in engine.

Gods no keep it within the engine.
