Think about wear catsuits might and might not look reasonable. In a nightclub or gala? Okay. On the battlefield with tons of enemies bearing down on you? Not okay.
It's not supposed to be a realistic depiction of a battlefield. We already have remote controlled drones that can shoot better than any human sniper. If you wanted a realistic depiction of squad level combat in 2183 Shepard and crew would be sat in an air-conditioned bunker remote piloting mechs through each mission.
You accept that we're not doing that so the game can be fun and look good. I don't think your issue with females wearing tight clothes is what you say it is.

And musket range? You must be joking.
Why? 100 metres is a long range shot in ME.

Sheesh.
Here is a list of things infantry soldiers like to have during an assault.
- suppressing fire
- perimeter security
- a 3:1 numerical advantage
- enough guys to absorb casualties
Sheesh indeed if you think three guys carried out that raid.

Okay, now we're getting somewhere. I think the series actually does have a sexy image - you always visit a strip club, you can sleep with pretty much any of the women in it (or if you're a femshep you can engage in really freaky xenophilia). The first thing I heard about this game was that there was lesbian sex with a blue alien in it.
As for the image of the Alliance, I'd argue it hasn't really been fleshed out much in the game. Uniforms are hardly consistent. Also bear in mind the Alliance is developing in response to alien cultures. Maybe the catsuits are a nod to the asari?
Finally, what is it about Ash that makes you think she wouldn't wear a catsuit? She promised my Shepard she'd wear a tinfoil miniskirt and knee high boots if he bought her dinner first.
Oh yeah, there surely is sex in Mass Effect, no doubt about that. Just like there is sex in real life. But military in real life would try to suppress sexuality among its personel. Especially in the battlefield. Gets in front of practicality. And to me Ashley seemed like a woman who respects practiacality. You can let loose out of duty but when there's a job to do you do it well. The armor in mass effect 1 was kinda... funky, but everyone wore it! It made sense, of course you want to protect your fleshy bits in a gunfight. Later there have been characters that seem to think a bit too much how they will look like in battle.
But I am seriously predicting that BW's alternate appearances for squadies will have more armored variants for these characters. Would make sense to respect the boring old reasonable ones, and still have the option to please the ones who prefer sex over immersion.

Now, from this plethora of visual information we can assume that you...yes YOU! always have hair in your eyes and always wear a sexy outfit, even when you are working construction.

You said it's sexualized but have you seen other games like Witcher 2? Almost every single women (besides Triss) show cleavage that you can bury your face in.
As long as Ashley's suit is made of steel etc and not leather... i'm happy.
Otherwise, give us a proper lore explanation of how this material stops bullets.

If she has a casual outfit/hairstyle and a combat one and this was the former then GREAT! In that case, I like her casual look.
Keeping my fingers crossed that this is the case, but I am not hopeful, ME2 and DA2 didn't do this. (though ME1 did, which is the thread I'm hanging onto)

Ashley had long-ish hair in ME1 and ME2 it was just tied up in a bun. I do hope that squadies have an on-ship and a combat outfits, that was one of the things that annoyed me in ME2.DetailedSubset wrote...

To be fair we haven't actually seen her in combat, that suit she's wearing could be her idle gear.
right at the end. (may contain spoiliers)
Right at the start of the game when Earth is attacked and both Shepard and Anderson aren't exactly wearing 'combat gear' either so your attempt to claim she should've been in combat gear doesn't fit.
The way I see it, the scene we saw in that demo happens shortly after the trial is stopped due to Reaper invasion, Anderson sends Ashley/Kaidan off with joker to go get the Normandy prepped, whilst him and Shep do some stuff, Ashley probably still wearing her casual gear after attending Shepard's trial.
You could be right but I doubt it, most likley it'll be similar to ME2 and thats just how she looks at all times.
I think that Shepards Squad are more like Commandos in WW2 or Black Ops teams who work alone or in small teams behind enemy lines without support rather than front line Special OpsCaptainZaysh wrote...

Okay, so Shepard and Garrus will plough on through in bulky, practical armor, and then in comes Ashley, catsuit, cleavage, high heels... Okey dokey.
I'm not saying the combat is (or should be) identical to what we see today; I'm saying that, in light of what we saw in ME1, in light of Ashley's practical, no-nonsense personality, and in light of all the male soldiers wearing practical-looking armor while the main female characters get sexified... it looks goofy and it looks out-of-character.
What you're saying basically amounts to "Well, it's unreality, so anything goes here." Why not just throw in a black cape for Shepard and a whiplash for Ashley, and call it "passable"? Why not? If I applied your argument to that, practically anything would be acceptable. Hell, according to your logic, Shepard's armor gives him no advantage whatsoever. Let's give him a hoodie and a fedora and laugh at how stupid we were for wanting some degree of "plausibility". <_<

I guess is that it puts sex where it is not needed. Doesn't fit the image of the series (what the hell ever that is anymore), alliance, or the character.
I don't see why the hell BioWare is marketing this game as it is. C'mon, the Fall of Earth? BioWare sounds like they are desperate to get more attention from people who don't play their games. "Choose how the Earth will be reclaimed!... oh, and the galaxy too... BUT EARTH!!!" They sneak in a slight mention of the rest of the galaxy in the trailer, but focus around Earth just to get everyone's attention. I hope this is just for marketing and is not what this game truly reveals itself to be.

Oh my god! You killed Conrad!
I sent him home like I did in ME1 even though the import bug had the fool accusing my Shep of pulling a gun in his face. So I sent him home again. I wish the dialog said, "Didn't I send you home to your wife before? Now go and if you come back I will put my gun in your face and pull the trigger. Then stand you back up and claim I tried to save you a second time."

and then in comes Ashley, catsuit,
Catsuits don't have armor on the hips, legs and chest.
cleavage,
It conforms to her curves, but if she puts an undershirt on, like the pink thing in her ME 1 armor it's fine.
high heels...
Those aren't high heels, look again, they're more like spring or padded heels on some running shoes
