 Just had an interesting thought: this whole tutorial sequence with Anderson and the reintroduction of the Normandy and Ashley/Kaidan returning as spectres seems to me as somewhat of a nod/homage to the opening sequences of Mass Effect/Eden Prime tutorial/Normandy debriefing... remember Anderson providing a load of exposition about spectres, etc, taking in the med bay with Ash/Chakwas, etc?

I bet when we get on board the Normandy the original crew reminisce about the Anderson days and how far everyone has come which would be a great way to introduce everything to new players as well as making us old timers all teary.

Anderson doesn't get on the Normandy, he decides to stay back to lead the ground offense against the reapers. Read on an account of someone who played the demo. I imagine this also means he won't be dying at the beginning of the game.

Is he? I doubt it. We see him fighting on Earth (gameplay videos) and according to the dialogue he chooses to stay on Earth. He is a survivor and I suspect he will play an important role in the game.
