As in, the council voting
to do a taetrus run on earth in a scorched earth (litterally) op, just
with, say a dreadnought sized vessel instead of a small freighter?
imagine what sort of damage one or (several for that matter) dreadnought travelling at non relativistic
speeds could do to earth?I mean it would make sense as a
last resort. the reapers are getting something out of this, there is no
doubt about that and denial of resources is a classic move in wars of
desperation like this.

well the problem with this is that the ship is non-relativistic....
