Am I the only one who found this kid's presence during the E3 demo of the opening of ME3 to be very.... unusual? I mean, how did Shepard even notice him hiding there in silence in a vent while Anderson didn't? Why did the boy disappear so quickly into thin air when Shepard turned his back for a second? Why does he tell Shepard that "you can't help me" and that "everyone is dying"?

Is this strange boy showing quick signs of the Reapers' indoctrination? :?
Does the boy even physically exist? Is he in fact a figment in Shepard's mind?
Am I overthinking a brief 30-some seconds of footage that probably won't mean diddly-squat in ME3? :P

He's not indoctrinated. He's just scared.

Meh. That kid will be relevant for fifteen minutes. Unless he's a new squad member.

I thought that was a touching little scene Bioware threw in there. Call be crazy but I thought it was one of those "awww" moments, was nice to see Shepard care enough to stop to do that.

Definitely a nice moment to inject some empathy into the campaign. I hope more of those moments pop up.

The Mysterious boy is obviously Shephards conscience creating an image of him as a child.

Telling him that no matter how many people he wants to save people will die.

I bet if your Fem Shep in this scene it is a scared little girl as well.

Bioware could check your skin and hairstyles to make an image as Shephard as a child the same way Dragon Age 2 had the family system for making what your family looked like.

He's the ME3 version of Newt from Aliens.

Humanity is as vulnerable as the child. We are like children compared to the reapers. We are all reduced to children when we are afraid. Shepard has a human side. It's just a touching moment to put it all into perspective- this is bigger than just Shepard.

I'm guessing that the kid is figment of Sheperd's mind. Sheperd has had extensive exposure to Reaper technology, so the possibility that he may be succumbing to indoctrination is not impossible. I suspect that how you handle those kinds of interactions with your growing madness will have an effect on the level of indoctrination you will suffer.

That kid is prophesized to bring balance to the Force.

I think he just symbolises the apparent hopelessness of the situation- but also ultimately what's at stake. 'Fight for the lost', etc etc.

^ that, plus it is maybe a homage to Newt in Alien when they find her in the air ducts... I liked that touch though a lot. :)

I think it was reeeeaaallly creepy myself. Really nice to see more sides of Shepard than the badass savior

What if it's Shepard succumbing to the Reaper's mental attacks? Maybe they have to weaken his will before indoctrinating him, like with Saren? Then you'd be plagued with similar visions throughout the game

Im still hoping in one of ME3s endings we get to side with the Reapers and kill everyone.

And every evil action you take reduces Shep to bone and cybernetics like Saren Reaper boss

the boy may be a figment of shepards mind then again, so could this entire trilogy! What shepard has experienced since being called to the normandy in the first game and through the events of the entire series could be an interactive simulation. i mean, we could get to the end of mass effect 3 and find out that this entire situation with the reapers has been an elaborate training simulation that nihlus and anderson placed shepard into to see if he was really tough enough to become a spectre(highly unlikely but plausible)...or.. shepard really did die on the first normandy and this is his personal hell for somthing he did in his past (probably not this one). either that or the boy really was real and i'm just reading way too much into this. after all it is only a 10-15 second clip out of a 3-5 minute demo of a game that is more than 6 months away(definetly this one:D)... that and i still cant bring myself to accept that this will be the end of the mass effect series:(. Iin anycase don't mind me i'm just an over excited fan, who hasn't slept in a while. though all joking aside, i am surprised that bioware has opted to put children in a mass effect game, seeing as how they were hesitant to do so with the other games because of the violence its a little odd considering that this will most likely be the bloodiest and violent game in the trilogy.

Save your money, dont buy ME3, and just let the timer count down to 0 in Arrival.
You just got your wish.

Nice moment, but lacking in player choice. There needs to be a choice to focus on the mission and ignore the kid.

No. This time around, the Reapers are here to Reap, not to indoctrinate.

Does the boy even physically exist? Is he in fact a figment in Shepard's mind?

Probably not, but I like the idea.

Yes, but you're not the only one.

I wish it's as deep as you say. But it's probably just another Jenkins.

They were probably playing with Shep's mind.

So you're saying that the younger boy is possibly Shep's younger self? That's some trippy stuff right there...

Maybe it's a small Bonus for Earthborns.
come to think of, Standard Sheploo is Earthborn.
Maybe this scene is a combination of Earthborn and that what you told.
Other Sheps may don't have this Scene.

Everything's possible.
