I think they edited the demo a bit just to show the type of diversity they were going to put in the game. I think the part with the reaper coming in close before the demo faded out really isn't in the game, but was put in to add suspension.

To be more on topic, I'll welcome rail shooting, but shooting a reaper with a machine gun really won't do anything to it... And putting weak points to shoot on the Reaper wouldn't make much sense at all. Reapers shouldn't have weak points.

Option 3: Don't care, and I'd rather take the shooting with a turret than fighting a Reaper on foot.

And I just love how everyone immediately assumes that all vehicle segments will be like that, even if there's no evidence of such. But I guess that's how BSN works these days.

Pull assumptions out of your ass and get away with it.

Sure in small segments it can change up the flavor of the gameplay a little bit.

Only if they put Normandy shooting segments on rails

That would be fun

Rail sections make my brain bleed on repeated playthroughs. I'm thinking of RE5 and Gears of War here. Yeesh.

ITT: One rail-shooting segment in a AAA game ruins it ENTIRELY.

no prob with it at all. Variety of gameplay is always a plus in my book.

and to those complaining why is Shepard even bothering. Well, he is escaping in a military vehicle with a 50 story machine chasing him. Would you NOT shoot at it if you were in the same place? It was an act of desperation

Another concern is how do you balance rail shooting between different difficulty levels? It's just that you spend the whole game honing your third person shooting and power using skills, then suddenly you're playing a different game. It might be like how the Hammerhead was balanced (or not at all) for higher difficulty levels. Pass.

I have a feeling it was a situational thing, and it was an interesting situation. I'm looking forward to see how that ends.

If it is a more common thing, I don't think I would like it as much. It's not really Mass Effect's thing.

As long as it's an occasional thing, I'm fine with it. Some variety is good in my opinion.

I don't ever see this happening, but I'd be fine with the rail segments if they were skippable like a cutscene. I'll definitely beat each segment on whatever difficulty level I find appropriate, but if they're as heinous as the rail segments in other games then I'm not going to want to do them more than once or twice.

What did you want Shepard to do in that situation? Legion comes rolling in with the vehicle as a Reaper comes up very close to Shepard. Shepard decides to hop on and fire at the thing with his pidly chain gun because it's better than not firing at it. While riding he calls in an orbital strike.

Isn't that a bit more tactically sound then just standing right next to the reaper while you call down the orbital strike? Granted I don't want it to happen a lot, but as a set piece to show the full scale of a Reaper's attack ability I believe it serves its purpose.

I'm not a fan of rail gun sequences, but I DID really like this one. Shepard was unprepared for that encounter, so he used the strongest weapon in his near. He did not expect it to kill the Reaper, only keep its' attention until the big guns (the powerful rockets that hit it) were fired. Legion was drving away so Shepard did the most logical thing: Fire at the Reaper with the turret gun on the back of the Geth ship. I would like to see a few of these sequences in the game. :-))

If Assassins Creed and Metal Gear Solid can make me enjoy rail-shooting then there's a possibility that it's good. As long as they don't use it to carry the gameplay it seems awesome. Especially if there was a scene where Shepard and a ton of tanks are driving up and everyone is having their little "rail shooter" experience.

BTW, is it just me or did the poll seem kinda biased. No offence OP, but if you want an accurate representation of opinion put it in your post, not on the poll. Otherwise people will think "Wow, it seems like not alot liked that section. I thought it was kinda cool but I'll vote no since I don't wanna be the sole man out."

MGS series is one of the best franchises at doing on-rails sequences tho, MGS3 end game sequence? MGS4 was chock full of them as well

nothing to scoff at there, i think if they're going to tackle an on-rails sequence it needs to up the ante, nobody is impressed by the concept itself anymore

If it happens regularly, I'll be pretty pissed-off.

Rail-shooting in games is generally pretty forced and ridiculous-seeming at the best of times, and rail-shooting in a game where technology has progressed to the point where it make no damn sense is even worse. If Shepard keeps inexplicably ending up on little trains or cars and firing machineguns at pursuers, I will definitely wonder if the ME team even really "get" their own game and what makes it so special. I mean, there are things to steal from other shooters - on rails shooting segments are not one of them. Especially in a game that has RPG elements, because these segments effectively remove ALL your abilities, and ALL your companions, and just make it into mindless shooting - mindless shooting which has to be super-easy, too, because otherwise people get infuriated by these segments. Personally I play ME to play ME, not to play Operation Wolf or other '80s/'90s arcade shooters.

I'd certainly prefer not to have it. If it is the game, I hope it's very limited. It'd be wonderful if it only happens that one time.

So because one level is a rail shooter, every vehicle section is now a rail shooter and the game is completely ruined?
I'm going to go reevaluate my scale of human stupidity now.

Everyone needs to stop over-reacting its not that bad and there is no evidence that it will take place most of the game. And stop comaparing it to GoW or CoD, thats just stupid.

Also, remember the whole "there will be some bosses that you have to lure to speific areas to defeat"? thats my guess as to what this will be.

I thought it was pretty okay. 20 hours of rail shooting start to get a little annoying but what we saw so far is just perfect, allowing us to look at awesome decors.

just don't make it a majour part of the game, twice is okay, more is jumping the shark.

Well, quite frankly, I don't see how you're going to take down a live Reaper without occasionally getting behind a big-ass turret and hitting 'em in the weak spot yourself. These sections could be a great and fun addition to ME3 for one reason or another, be it storytelling or gameplay or both.

It would be good against gargantuan enemies like the Reapers or thresher maws, but I really would like Bioware to refrain from making an on-rails section for the sole purpose of mowing down infantry goons ad-nauseum. That gets boring very quickly.
