Well, in all fairness, it is clearly labelled on the press picture on the Mass Effect 3 site, and on practically every gaming news site.

Uh I found it on gamestop.

No you didn't, you found "Mass Effect 3 Collectors Edition" which is the retail version.  A lot of PC users such as myself prefer digital versions these days, there is a Digital Collectors Edition but it is only available on EA's DD service called Origin.

They might have different versions of the digigtal CE, or a digital supreme edition, but yeah I think they are going to hose steam again because that is ow EA rolls.  Which is fine, they just wont get my money until it is $20 or less during a steam sale.

These digital prices from EA and many other publishers are just gonna price themselves out of the market.

I'll just get retail box its alot cheaper.

So much for digital distribution being cheaper as it has none of the overheads that retail has.

If mass effect 3 turns out like dragon age 2 I might not even buy the game at all.

Could it be that we might need an anit-Origin / pro-Steam petition thread for DDE?

It's not. If something sucks, it sucks. Whether you buy it or not has no impact on the aforementioned sucking.

If you buy the physical (not digital) collector's edition you don't just get the art book, comic, and patch, you get a N7 hoodie as well in your size. I can see that for the additional money. But for those buying the digital version, the same price makes no sense to me at all. There should only be a slight charge for the extra DLC and enhancements that come with the collector's edition.

My suggestion would be to buy the physical game - if you have a compatible platform. Personally I'm not fond of steam either.

Yeah, so where do I enter my size for that hoodie?

The hoodie is for in-game for your Shepard. It's not a real hoodie. Read it carefully.

That's what I figured, but haynoats post suggests he thinks it's an actual real life N7 Hoodie.

$80 and you have to add 25% VAT on top of that... $100.. A bit on the expensive side.

They did it once already with DA2, and Steam only got the normal edition... I'm sure they're doing it again, only much bolder this time, that's EA for you.

I don't understand how they expect consumers to accept paying the same price for some PDFs of things.

That boat sailed a long long time ago when publishers stopped bothering supplying printed manuals with the games.

I mean.. You DO know that originally games came with actual manuals that not only explained how to play the game, but also gave stats of various tidbits in the game and also some thematically fictional writing to boot?

I don't begrudge the loss of manuals.  They're another thing that doesn't have much instrinsic value (to me at leas) as a physical item.  The "flavor" text that you'd ordinarily find in a manual has been replaced by Mass Effect's excellent in-game codex.  I'll trade a manual for an exhaustive in-game encyclopedia any day.

As far as game pack-ins go, art books/lithgraphs/etc are really the only things that still have greater value (again in my opinion) as a physical item as opposed to on a computer screen.  Good art in manuals disappeared long before manuals themselves did.

In any case, I don't even want the art book that much.  If I did, I would of course be looking at getting the physical CE in the first place.  I really just want the extra in-game items, but the if I buy the DDE for them, I have to choke down the principle that I'm paying the same price for a version that has some PDFs versus a version with real, printed items.

Ideally, what I'd like to see is a DDE that includes the in-game items only and forgoes the PDF artwork, for $70 on Steam.  I honestly don't think that's unreasonable.

In any case, barring the onset of some sense at EA, looks like I'll be getting the physical CE version and then I'll probably rebuy the game on Steam to have it digitally once it inevitably goes on sale for $5-10.  Sucks to have to buy the game twice, but I'll take solace in the thought that EA's chunk of the profit from these sales would still probably be less than one exploitatious sale of the DDE on Origin.

I really don't get why they would limit the Digital Deluxe Edition to one store, it makes no sense

For EA it makes a lot of sense... they just opened the Origin Store, and they want to promote it.
What better way to do that than with a AAA Title like ME3.

I'm not saying that I agree with them, and I ordered a physical copy too, but from a Marketing perspective it does make sense.

Though I'll never buy digital copies of games, I like a physical copy in my hands, also the Bonus Content... the patch totally goes on my flight-jacket :D

You don't get to experiance the suckage. Which is, arguablely, the most important part.

Well, in my country there is a difference in prize equivalent of about £24 between the DDE and the CE of the game, so those physical bonuses must be worth something; at least here...
