Does anyone know for sure if they are actually announcing more full time squad members at E3? I'm just curious. Hoping Miranda is going to pop up in the line-up, I'm not at all fussed about new characters, I'd rather they brought back more of the old ones and worked on their characters some more.

I think even with all the disagreements Mass Effect fans are known to have that it's a safe bet to say 95% of the fan base is with you on that one. That said, most games are built with the logic that there has to be a degree of 'new' in every aspect, including cast. So let's just hope James Vega is the only side effect of that angle and that he's a cool guy, but there's no way of knowing if he's it or if there are more.

Regardless, there's no official word on whether or not BioWare plans to show us more squadmates. I find it very important to note that Garrus and Liara were tagging along with Shepard in both demo locations, though -- not even Tali was with them, someone who has been confirmed as a returning squadmate. It seems that especially to the overall public, EA and BioWare are taking a slow-going approach to squadmate confirmation, so I'd be a bit surprised if we suddenly saw Miranda or Thane or what-have-you blatantly in Shepard's party later on today.

Surprised but thrilled, mind you. But we'll see.

Yeah I was under the impression there would be at least one squadmate reveal...
Although the krogan princess could possibly be a squadmember since it seems that she'll either be travelling with either Shepard or Wrex to Tuchunka/ Palaven.
Frankly, i'm hoping for some of the new party members to be revealed. Preferably of alien species/ genders we have not traveled with yet (A batarian or female turian reveal would be awesome :D).

I like Jack and Miranda as much as anyone else but I think having them as temp squad members for a mission would be more than enough, besides, we have enough humans already. Also, Jack's redesign doesn't mean she'll be rejoining the squad, I'm guessing that Mordin, Legion, etc. are just in their place holder designs, and they'll get a new outfit for ME3, like how our squad mates from ME1 all look different.

I'd like them to keep the rest a secret to be honest. We know all the squaddies that survived are in the game anyway. Be an awesome surprise to find out who sticks with you.

Easy to say when you already had your favorite characters confirmed as squadmate. <_<

Miranda fans are anxiously waiting for a confirmation that they will be able to enjoy the last chapter of the series with their favorite character.

I have reason to believe we won't get a Batarian squaddy.
My reason being, we killed 305,000 Batarians in Arrival.

Yeah, this seems very unlikely.  ^_^

Hmm. *scratches chin* After careful consideration, your logic seems sound.

I'll agree with this.

Same here!!!!! I wish each character has a promo vid just like the last game. Maybe not now, but near the release date. My profile picture says it all that I'm a fan of Miri and plus I used 320 microsoft points for her avatar outfit in the 360 heehee.

I'm thinking 8, since there were 6 in ME1, 10 (without DLC) in ME2, and 8 is smack dab in the middle of those numbers. And then add the day 1 DLC character for 9! Which is right in between 12 (ME2 with DLC) and 6!

It's mathematical beauty! :DDDD

the added character from the CE version was a typo or at least it was a mistake from what I understand from other threads (sorry don't have a link to the Dev announcement) but it very well could be a DLC (just like Zaeer (sp?) and Kasumi from ME2), other ME2 squadmates may make an appreance, Jack is not confirmed as a permanent squadmate but will make an appearance with longer hair, strangely enough there has been no confirmation either way about the status of Miranda or Jacob (are they still with Cerberus or not), funny how no one cares if Jacob is a squadmate or not, lol. From what I can tell there has been no clarification on the number of squadmates, ME3 is different than ME2 (as was mentioned in other posts), your not really building an attack team but a full blown galactic armada or an army to face the Reapers in a epic full-scale battle. so the need for a large team is not needed as much in this game as it was in ME2, but I'm thinking that there may be a representative of each race as squadmembers aboard the Normandy, but that is not confirmed or implied by a Dev, just my thinking.

People are assuming too much. Jack has not been confirmed. She got a new look, but so did Anderson, yet he's already been dismissed as a companion.

As far as I know, it's just

Ash/Kaidan
Tali
Liara
Wrex
Garrus

and then some new guy supposedly. I think everyone else is sort of reduced to cameos or at least non-"playable" crew mates.

When was Jack confirmed?

She's had a redesign. Mordidn didn't get one. Given that Ash, Kaiden and Garrus were all redesigned, she's probably on the ship.

CRAP... oh wait... she's dead! :D

We killed tons of Geth in ME1, and legion joined.

Course it wasn't his kind of Geth, but we didn't know that. More to the point we killed Arl Howe in DA and his son was angry,  but he joined us anyway. So I wouldn't write that off too soon.

OT I'm hoping for the DA setup, 7 or 8+DLC. That seems to be the right number to me.

Given the link between the Reapers and Cerberus I am really interested (and nervous) about how Miranda's character will be handled in ME3. I wonder if there will be two possible fates for her:

1. She resigns from Cerberus and is either in Alliance custody or in hiding and will become a permanent squad member. This could occur if you romanced her and took her with you in the final battle in the SM and blew up the base.

2. She is indoctrinated (most likely scenario for Cerberus to be working with the Reapers) and commanding the new Cerberus forces working against Shepard if you handed the base over to TIM at the end of the SM.

I think her character has the potential to have the most dynamic story line options of all the remaining undeclared squad members. I just hope Casey lets us know what her status is soon.

For numbers sake alone they wont make ME3 with fewer teammates than ME 2 my guess still is 12 fully playable squadies.
This number thought might go down due to the whole temporary squadmates thing implementaed in ME3. In fact it might be that just about half of the game you will be forced to use at least one of this temps, co there might be a little need for big numbers of all around teamamates.

So my guess is 10+ 2 DLC char

1) Ashley/Keidan
2) Vega
3) Garrus
4) Tali
5) Liara
6) Miranda (awaliable agter midgame
7) Grunt
8) Jack
9) Thane
10) eighter someone new (technicial most likely) or Mordin/Legion

+2) minor DLC characters with little storry involvement

Mordin i think will be permamently on Normandy regardless of beeing all round TM or temp. The same might go for diffrent people - they still might be on the ship just not neceserlty playable.
(Anderson, Jakob, Kelly, etc.)
And I'd like to find out about that Vega guy - I totaly expect him to be an LI (for new players) so I left that 10th slot for upcoming new female character as well. Of course there is still an option that they make it possible to start a new Romance with current LIs if you ignored them in past 2 games or started from part 3.

For what it's worth, Wikipedia says Miranda will return in Mass Effect 3 provided she survived the previous game. I know it's not official but it cheered me up a bit. Please be a squad mate and have a scene where I save Miranda from being indoctrinated just like those Cerberus creeps!

Unfortunately its not. I'm with you man... I want that so bad.

The "confirmation" was from that magazine that mentions Jack has a redesigned look.

Hopefully not. Quality is more important than quantity, and we saw what happens when you have too many squadmates. Endless calibrations...

Well Bioware now has a lot bigger budget for ME3 then ME2 and they're not overhauling game mechanics and development time is longer so 12 squadmates can work this time.

Though unfortunately they said they will have less then 12 squadmates this time.:(

I think that's a good thing. Gives them a possibility to focus on the characters more than in ME2.

I can live without some of the characters in ME2. Like, at least five of them.

You forgot James Vega, who we already saw in E3 Gameplay trailer Fall of Earth, E3 Earth Demo and Alternative Appearance pack DLC for ME3 a long side with Liara.
