It is true, the majority of their ships are filled with noncombatants.  Smaller scouting vessels are the exception.  Again, who says they are at war with the Geth.

The migrant fleet is 50,000 ships. Even with the majority stacked with civilians that is still a lot of ships. And they do have a combat wing. We don't actually know they have attempted to retake their home planet although it was strongly hinted they were about to in ME2 and is rumoured for ME3. This thread is taking that as an assumption

Exactly, most of their ships are stacked with non combatants.  Most of their fleet.  They can't commit their whole fleet until they have a place for their non combatants to stay.  They think the they have a better chance with the Geth than with the Reapers, so they attempt to retake the homeword so they can commit the entire fleet against the Reapers.

The OP has gone about it in a slightly ham-fisted manner but does actually make a good point. If you know the Reapers are coming, preparing and launching an invasion against the Geth does make it seem like the Quarians are a bit strategically challenged.

It's what happens when groups lock themselves into ideological thinking instead of dealing with the realities.

Legion says that the Geth aren't using any of the homeworlds and aren't opposed to the Quarians resettling if they don't try to start another fight. It's a bit disconcerting to think that Shepherd mightn't pass that piece of information on to Tali to get to the Migrant fleet.

In any case, they don't even have a good chance against the Geth without the Reapers adding themselves to the mix. It seems like a foolish action, but there's nothing unbelievable about the group like the Quarians trying it. Especially if they're being lead by an admiral who thinks they can seize control of their enemies minds.

I still think they should have found themselves a nice world with a breathable atmosphere and edible flora/fauna and started the long process of acclimatising.

Seriosuly? Who attacks the geth when they're about to be wiped out by the reapers. Yeah, you get your homeworld back only to be melted down into goo to build a reaper a few days later. How dumb can you be?

You should put it differently, as the current title gives th impression of trolling. I actually agree that it is stupid to worry about a planet when your entire race is at stake.

Krogan are stupid. Seriously? Who is involved in a civil war when they're about to be wiped out by the reapers. Yeah, you can be united only to be melted down into goo to build a reaper a few days later. How dumb can you be?

Salarians are stupid. Seriously? Who is debating the merits of the genophage when they're about to be wiped out by the reapers. Yeah, you all agree it was bad only to be melted down into goo to build a reaper a few days later. How dumb can you be?

Humans are stupid. Seriously? Who is holding Shepard on trial when they're about to be wiped out by the reapers. Yeah, you bring him/her to justice only to be melted down into goo to build a reaper a few days later. How dumb can you be?

Who attacks a Reaper ally during or before a war with the Reapers?

I see no proof of this so, bravo. :wizard: I will now whisk your proof-less logic to nothingness. Obviously legion is helping you in the demo meaning that the Geth are against the reapers... The geth are a collective intelligence meaning Legion is just a platform subject to the collective will of Geth. QED- Geth are aiding Shepard.

Did you miss the plot of ME1? And a significant part of ME2? And one of the demo missions of ME3?

Can you prove that Legion hasn't been playing Shepard? Or that what Legion claimed was, in fact, accurate?

More importantly, can you provide a basis besides 'the game wouldn't lie to me' for why anyone else should accept Legion's claims without collaborating proof? Can you even provide external evidence of a Geth split?

I can indeed. See Legions talk with EDI in the LotSB plot page to understand Legion's genuineness. Also there are no claims, simply actions. My claim that the Geth are allies is the one being supported with the most recent evidence and your claim that the Geth are working for the reapers has been debunked quite recently with Legion's loyalty mission. You seem to believe that everything Legion told us is a lie-- which is fine and dandy but if it were down to the wire with Shep within 100m of a reaper, do you really think that Legion would drive him away from it had the Geth really been working for them? Nope.

I was under the impression that Legion was a platform specifically designed to operate independently for extended periods of time, and as such is not "subject to the collective will of the Geth."  In fact, the only time I recall Legion even communicating with the Orthodox Collective at all was aboard the Normandy, using the Normandy's FTL comm systems.

What makes you believe the opposite?

He communicates with the central intelligence of the geth several times during the game. Take his loyalty mission for example; he cites how many programs favor re-write and how many favor destruction. Legion may be designed for that purpose but wether he executes his commands without consensus I cannot say.

All these programs are inside himself. Hence the name Legion. When he is "building consensus" he is running through his own programs. Not communicating with a Geth prime at a remote location.

Incorrect, those programs are Geth programs within Legion's platform itself, not the rest of the Geth network.  Legion contains 1,183 Geth programs while the average Geth platform, such as those you faced in ME1 only carried 100 each.

Word.

Also, Legion is said to be the only geth platform capable of achieving sentience on its own. Arguably that makes Legion the only geth beyond the influence of the collective.

It may well be that, when we see Legion helping Shepard in a trailer, Legion is the only geth in the galaxy doing so.

Um, ME3 ain't out yet, dawg. We can't know for sure what is going on until after it releases.
