In the gameplay trailer, when Shepard, Mordin, etc. were attempting to rescue the Krogan princess, you can hear a Batarian warn Shepard of the incoming Atlas. Most likely this Batarian is on the Normandy because... where on Sur'Kesh would it make sense for him to be, with sensor access and the ability to track Shepard's progress?

Now normally, I'd say "well this probably indicates he's not a squaddie, because we've never had squaddies on the radio chatter if they weren't in the mission before." However, we hear Ashley when Shepard is escaping from Earth as he and Anderson try to contact the Normandy. So at the very least, a Batarian is cooperating with Shepard and is most likely allowed access to the Normandy. But since I don't forsee anyone replacing Joker or EDI and mechanics/janitors/security officers on the Normandy don't normally chime in on secure lines, he's probably a squaddie.

Anyway, as for the the locations of the voices in the video:

4:54 Batarian speaks

9:13 Ashley speaks

I thought that was Wrex since they said he was waiting for you.

Could have been Wrex...could it also have been a bullet-time effect modulating the voices? Like soldier adrenaline rush, infiltrator rifle zoom or vanguard charge?

Placeholder voice? Sounds like the same one used to warn Shep of incoming Cerberus troops at the Reaper Base.

Wrex and Batarians (in general) both have low pitched voices, but they sound different to me. For one thing, Wrex tends to draw out key words in sentences. I know he had to warn him in a hurry, but IMO he'd have used fewer words and drawn out one or two of them. Even if that weren't the case, I hear a difference. :)

But then, I've been wrong before.

@ Daqs: Reaper Base? Can you link the video? And yeah, it *could* be a placeholder voice, but if so why go to the trouble of modulating the audio file?

Will you people shut up about Batarians! You want ****'s as squad-mates next?
It was either Wrex or James Vega.

You don't have to be yell in an attempt to make yourself look more right, Confused-Shepard. Is it possible I made this topic because I actually thought it sounded like a Batarian, and not because I go around town wearing a Batarian Tee-shirt, eating Batarian ice cream, and wearing two sets of sunglasses?

James is a human from what we know; the voice didn't sound quite human to me with the modulation. But we haven't heard his voice yet, so we have no idea what he sounds like. Could be right by chance. I don't think it sounded much like Wrex, though.

Of course, Brenon says it's not a Batarian. Provided no further information, though. We'll see when the time comes.

Well I could clarify, but isn't it more fun to try to figure it out?

Much more fun. ;-)

Hey, I got Ashley's voice right before I saw her appear, and that was barely audible.

I assumed it was a placeholder for Wrex when I heard it.

That's gotta be Wrex, with a placeholder voice like Mordin's.

Wait so Wrex is a squad-mate?
And I apologize for yelling.

Probably just a temporary squadmate. It seems like a lot of the old squadies will help you for a mission here and there.

One thing has occurred to me, though: we haven't seen James without his armor off, have we? At first I just thought it was BioWare trying to hide surprises for us, but it might be part of his personality. Maybe he's afraid of his identity getting out and being discovered working for Shepard, so he wears his armor a lot and modulates his voice.

Yeah I know Wrex was waiting for them. :) But I don't think it was since the voice is so incosistent with what we know.

Could be TIM's son or something. We DO know he was a Cerberus operative, right? More daddy issues. ;-)

It was totally a placeholder VO for Wrex, just like Mordin had placeholder VO

Well if that Mordin VO is a placeholder, the VA who did it was a lot better at impersonation.
