Kudos to Bioware. Now if would kindly copy Elder Scrolls for RPG elements and take classes from Ken Levine on Atmosphere & Environment design.

not to get off on a rabit trail here but I actually think the "dual wield" was done initially but was a by product of what they started with. I think they initially wanted to make it so you could have more control over things like shield knock back or what have you so they allowed the left trigger to use the shield as a weapon and went from there. either that or it was exactly that they wanted dual weild and then said "hey we can do xyz with the shield too".
as far as ME being GoW not even close, there are similarities thanks to the combat aspect of ME but if you REALLY know what you are doing you can play ME2 on insanity without really shooting much at all.

ME2 beated GoW by a longshot alone. The devs of that game don't bother with innovbation. Lazy besterds.
So doesn't that make Bioware worst by going out of their way to copy Epic Games' design then?

they took out classes, birthsigns, a significant portion of what you actually build up in your character. they added dual wielding sure. but uh, thats not "RPG elements"
taking out character customization like they have is the issue im talking about which they have done.
The class system in Oblivion was broken and only determined the speed at which you leveled up. Plus, level ups for running and jumping was seriously lame. BIthsigns were cool but a horribly unbalanced gimmick and I prefer dragon shouts since you get more than one. Skyrim is still going to be awesome but we're discussing cover shooters in here.
I love Elder Scrolls, but I always have ended up using the custom class anyways.
A lot of them were very similar in the first place. Like: Spellcaster, sorcerer, magician, mage, wizard, etc. Yes, that's not an exact list from the game, but you get the point..i hope..

pft, bioware hasnt added one inovative thing to shooters. they didnt have localized damage in ME1, meaning shooting them in the head was as effective as shooting them in the foot. now with ME3 your confusing "jumping and rolling" with the word inovative......even tho those things are more common in shooters then waste high walls.
id say MEs shooter combat is far from anything inovative.
whats next, your gonna tell me TCs are innovative!???!??!?!??

Sorry...I'm not going to waste a hundreds of hours playing a multiplayer mode, just so I can get some achievements and better at it.
On a side note: Metroid Prime is a Halo clone hur hur hur <_<
Sound familiar?

I'm proabably one of the few people that was not that impressed with gears of war. It was ok, I completed both of them but honestly at about way through I lost all desire to play more. That is until my friends came over and we played coop. But the story is just ok for me. Also I get so freaking tired of people saying that every game that has a cover system is a gears of war clone! There are other games thath Gears of War "borrowed things from." People saying that ME3 is a gears clone is like saying Gears is a Half-Life clone because they are both shooters. IT"S JUST STUPID! My friends ME has surpassed gears a long time ago. Pretty much every character in gears is the stereotypical soldier. Thats not innovative! I know that people are going to feel pissed by me saying this but guys come on! If you like Gears over ME then ok, but stop trying to make connections that are quite frankly not even there.
The whole "ME is a Gears clone" actually has merit, because they used the same exact shooting system and even layout. Bioware Devs even admitted during development of ME2, if your going to use cover mechanics, then you should copy the best (that being Gears of War.)
Personally though, I don't think that's a bad thing. ME2's flaw was that it lacked it decent skill tree and the plot, but both of these things look improved for the third game.

Gears does'nt do as much as ME so they can fine tune waaay more.
I doubt that ME3 will have more precise controls then Gears, and it does'nt need them to honest. Combat was excellent in ME2, and i would'nt mind if BW did'nt change anything!
I mean most people forget ME is an RPG, they think its a straight up shooter! Thats one hell of a compliment.

Mass Effect 3 looks like it is coming closer to that ideal RPG/Shooter hybrid they wanted from the beginning and that's not a bad thing. It looks just as enjoyable of a 3rd person shooter experience as the likes of Gears or Uncharted and that plus the RPG side, the characters, and the story.....well I can't wait for March.

All I can say to those complaining about Mass Effect being a GOW clone is this: If one of my colleagues was reeeeally good at what she did, and I needed to implement some of what she did into my current project, you better believe I'm going to go to her and look at what she does right and use that as inspiration or even a blue print for what I need to do. I won't "copy" necessarily, but what on earth is wrong with using what works?

nobody is complaining.
its just a gears of war rip off, and its simplified to the very core. dont take that as a hit on biowares intentions so much as its outcome. its almost like you could say bioware tried to make a shooter without putting shooter elements in, in the same way you can say its an RPG that forgot to add the RPG.
ME3 should be nothing short of a stellar game. if a gameing company cant combine ME1 and ME2 and make a decent game, then they deserve to be buttraped.
