Also, despitre beign normal, they aren't boring like Jacob is. They manage to be complex yet memorable and were my squad during my first playthough of ME1.

Why do people keep saying Jacob is boring? He was my favorite character. I hope he comes back.

In a team full of super-soldiers (Kaiden, Grunt, Jack), legendary mercenaries (Zaeed, Wrex, Thane) and geniouses (Liara, Tali and Mordin) it's great to ahve the two most normal characters in the game return. While garrus became Archangela dn Ashley bacame a spectre, they got to where they are by just knowing how to survive in combat zones without any flashy biotics. Bascially, they rule since they started out as normal characters doing their jobs and were able to thrive even witout Shepard.

He has no character development or growth. He is never scared, happy, angry, or sad. Nor is he evil, plagued by moral demons, or unsure of himself. Add to that the only time he shows emotion (hatred at the thought of mercs) it is never even explored and everybody, litterally EVERYBODY, likes him. Even Jack and TIM like him. His loyalty mission revealed nothing about his personality other than despite having a terrible father he still grew up straight as an arrow. Jacob is the Mary Sue of Mass Effect and in a ship full of aliens, mutants, and psychopaths is the least human character.Bachi1230 wrote...

Thriving = character growth. He found what he wanted to do with himself, help people, found a method of doing it, vigilante, and was so great at it people viewed him as an angel and others joined him. Then he grew in terms of abilities as he proved he was a natural born leader, inspiring all despite racial boundaries and their pasts. Without a doubt he was thriving before he was betrayed, which wasn't his fault and could literally happen to anyone at anytime, even Shepard.GnusmasTHX wrote...
Didn't Garrus get his whole squad killed and was about to die himself had Shepard not shown up?
That's not really thriving.
I have full renegade pro-Cerberus Ashley Shepard who is soldier - and this is my rare playthrough where Kaidan is dead. But since she's an anti-main Shepard, it will be a long time while she'd be transferred in ME3GnusmasTHX wrote...
Also since I play Soldier, Ashley, if she were still alive, would just be a less awesome, less accomplished version of me.

Meh, I have a Bachelors in English and a Masters in Creative Writing. TBH I don't hate his character, I would even be friends with him IRL, but I dislike his role in the game as it stands out negatively compared to the rest of the (admittedly-weak) characters. I'm sure that others on these forums are equal enthusiasts when it comes to writing and story and have analyzed that Jacob is obviously the "weak" link in ME2. Even the pilot, the technician, the janitor/cook and the AI are more interesting (yes, I know their names).Stun704 wrote...
hardcore mass effect fans demand too much out of their characters (as they should) however casual mass effect fans that i've met like Jacob.. the hatred for Jacob is really reserved to this forum for one reason or another
