I really hope they put it on Steam. It would be...inconvenient if it were only on origin and I don't really want to get the hard copy though I guess I might have to. That is what is keeping me from pre-ordering right now.

ME3 will be for sale on Steam and other digital distributers (it's already listed for preorder on Direct2Drive).

The difference from ordering on EA's Origin service is that you get access to different (perhaps more?) bonus items in game.. I.e. the N7 equipment.

You can still order from Steam & Direct2Drive (though Steam doesn't do pre-orders for any game until it is at least a few months from release... not nearly a full year, as ME3 is still 9 months away).

The difference will be that other digital distributers will offer different bonus pre-order items than the Origin service (and if EA is smart and wants to encourage people to try Origin, they'll offer more bonus items than the Steam, D2D etc editions get).

It was like this with Gamestop with ME2.... you had to pre-order from them to get access to that blackhole heavy gun (and some other armor).. except now, it will likely be Origin that gets the "sweeter" deal instead of Gamestop.

If you don't care about the bonus items (frankly, I pre-ordered the ME2 CE and I never use any of the items, they're not that special... they're certainly not "better" .. just different) then just pre-order from your preferred digital (or physical) retailer when it becomes available to pre-order.

PC game prices are likely on the rise because the prominence of PC games has been going down as of late. A lot of the game stores in my area have shrunk their PC sections to a very small subsection of the store. Compared to years ago when you used to have a large display with old and new games alike.

Consoles are slowly taking over and PC developers need to re-coup their costs in order to keep developing. So if they are losing their customer base then they up the price.

I believe the slight disappointment is that this is in essence the "offical" DDE. Bonus items from specific retailers come ON TOP of any versions offered usually.

It sucks, perhaps, but from the developers point of view, the cost of creating games has risen significantly and the price of purchasing such high production PC games hasn't risen in years.

It's just a matter of looking at Games and their cost from multiple perspectives. I sat down with a game developer last week in Seattle and we talked about how more and more game developers are jumping on the "Pay to Play" bandwagon, aka Facebook games like Farmville, where your game time and progress is limited severely unless you're ready to be nickel and dimed.

(Facebook games represent a very terrifying trend in the industry lately <_<)

I think that in this age of economic trouble, the cost of games going up is actually quite fair for developers, etc.

You think thats bad, try living in Australia. Where  despite our strong economy, what you guys can buy for $79, costs us $120 or more. And thats with our dollar trading higher than the US dollar.
Distributors in Australia seem to think they have the right to rape us, and then complain to the gubmint that too many people are spending their money on overseas websites, or just pirating and avoiding paying altogether.

I hope you are right. However, compare Alice : Madness Returns.

Highly promoted at the Origin site as an exclusive, no sign of it on Steam. Release date is in 10 days.

Also, even if there is _a_ version of ME3 eventually available on Steam, marketing suggests it will be cheaper and lesser than the Origin version, and the point is I would gladly give them more money for the digital deluxe version on Steam if I could get it.

Get VPN, register at Steam/wherever and enjoy standard prices?

If it's any consolation, they still use the "1 USD = 1 EUR" trick on us, too. (Even though 50 EUR = +/- 73USD at the moment. So 79 USD would be 115,44 USD as well. Thank you, Google Calculator)

On the other hand, PC games have gotten a -little- more expensive. (55 EUR for EA titles is not uncommon. Donotwant.) But if you know where to shop, you can almost cut the price in half. Just check out other (on-line) stores for better prices. I won't advertise them here, because I don't think that's allowed.

Incorrect. It's

1.) Get VPN
2.) Enjoy Standard Prices
3.) ???
4.) Profit!

Yeah, Australia's been getting the shaft for a long time :pinched:

Something cool that CDProjeckt RED is doing for australian customers is giving them store credit at Gog.com to make up the difference of cost since it costs more for them

You do realize that if one only bought from Steam, they were completely shut out of Dragon Age 2 CE, right? The day it stopped being offered was the day it went for pre-order on Steam. Because of that, I just never bothered buying the game at all. I decided to wait until the complete edition comes out. They're going to do the same exact thing with this one. Of course, this is the consumers choice - but I only buy games from GOG and Steam. Ever. I like my games organized, and I like them digital only. I don't keep CDs/DVDs, etc.

And that's only for those too dull to take the massive hints on their site that if you change the region field in your account settings, the prices change to something more reasonable (and the Witcher 2 version changes to an uncensored one).

Or they can simply change their location to USA/whatever, and enjoy the standard price tag. No IP-based restrictions on GoG.com.

edit: a second too late :D

Oh, and to respond to the OP's question:
http://www.origin.com/uk/
This website claims, on its main page, that the Digital Collector's Edition will only be available on Origin. ("Only on Origin: PC Digital Deluxe Download")

I think you misunderstand him. The "Will the game even be on steam at all" question was yours, and he posted that to say that ME3 itself will probably be on Steam, but as for the Digital CE, well, we'll have to wait for dev comments on that.

A good way to find out would be to ask the devs on their twitters. They're quite responsive :)

Actually, I'm old school and get my stuff hardcopy, not a big fan of download, as our ISPs dont offer unlimited downloads, and just one game can cost us half our monthly allowance.

Got bad news for you guys. I heard that the physical media will "Require Origin to play" and will force the installation of Origin along with the game.

EA is going to basically blackmail customers into using their platform.. Kind of like Steam did with the Orange Box... Only we all actually *like* valve and steam, so were ok with it.
