In the demo shown during the Microsoft conference it seemed like you only had 2 choices for most conversations. In the demo at the EA conference and on Spike later there were no dialogue options at all. Shepard just talked. I hope this is because the game is a work in progress, because if they severely limit the amount of conversation options then this might as well be Gears of War :/

A couple of 5 minute demos is not indicative of the entire game. There will be more dialogue choices, just wait.

Can people stop comparing Gears and Mass Effect? Wow, they use the same engine and they are both TPS, so they must be clones /sarcasm. Don't compare 2 games that are not alike. Please, just don't.

Good lord, people love to jump to conclusion. Just wait, at most, we've only seen about 15 minutes of the actual game.

Still, it is definitely troubling. I hope the Bioware devs listen to us on this...

They've got 5-8 minutes to wow a crowd. They're not going to spend that time sitting through dialogue. It is Mass Effect and not Heavy Rain after all.

While I strongly dislike you and your need to censor me abusively; I will quote you and say this as a retort.

If Dice / EA can drive a friggen tank in the middle of the desert for seemingly ten minutes with little to no action and clearly make it apparent that Call of Duty is screwed BASED ONLY ON THIS EPIC TANK SEQUENCE.....WHILE GETTING THE PEOPLE EXCITED....I think that Bioware could have wowed people with some slow-paced dialogue.

Agreed?

There is still 9 months until the release of the game. They would still be recording the VA lines and then have to lip sync.
Or do you have the opinion that just because a demo is shown, the game is therefore fully finished, and EA/Bioware is holding off on releasing it because they're teasing bastards?

Several things.

1. "While I strongly dislike you and your need to censor me abusively" I don't recognize your screenname at all, and I don't believe I've ever noticed you at all. There are other moderators on this board, but in any case, this is something that if you wish to discuss at length, belongs in PM.

2. Agreed =] I was a bit...disappointed about the Battlefield 3 coverage, the already released Faultline trailer was far better in showing off the features of the game.

I think that for that initial bang, BioWare wanted to show off the revamped combat mobility  and enemies, and most importantly, setting. There were really cool moments of 'non combat scenes" such as the little kid in the vent, (I loved that)

Wasn't there points in Mass Effect 2 when there was only two dialog options to pick from?

my god this is getting ridiculous E3 hasnt even really started yet, today was a pre-E3 event we have only seen what three, four videos and all have looked amazing, and there is still 9 months till the game comes out, and alot of people are complaing about the game, how the animations are crap, there is only two dialogue options in the cutscene that we have seen, its crazy ,at this stage there is no reason to be complaing, yet if it where like this , say a couple months before release date well then yea complain,
how do you think the devs think when they see some of the crap that has been posted on here today, and in the past but mainly today
i think what they have shown so far has been amazing truly great,
BIOWARE, keep up the good work.........

Quite a few in both ME1 and ME2. And there were plenty of times in ME1 when there were theoretically three dialog choices, but two or all of them actually led to Shepard saying the same thing.

Day 1 of E3 people - it is ALWAYS about setting the mood and getting people hyped up. And yes, the combat sequences don't always have alot of convo options, however - don't forget the part where he finds the kid in the ducts and has a few more options despite the pacing.

Have some faith - and patience :) Still got more E3 days to go and more ME3 love to see!

they did the exact stunt with ME2 demo at E3 but later on, showed the dialogue and the new interrupt system

Well, Bioware knows that it's impossible to satisfy everyone. After weeks of hard work, they also knew every single fan was going to analyze every second of demos and trailers. They already know that we're going to do the same when ME3 gets released. I think that must be a very disappointing part of their job (yes, they're people working, just like everyone else).

I must say I liked the demos, I think they wanted to show the combat and the new features and I'm really happy they didn't spoil any dialogues or any big surprises. This isn't finished yet, so they can add more dialogue choices before the release. It was a demo to see how this is going. Let's see what they finally do before start complaining.

Honestly my friend, if they DON'T take the time and opportunity at E3 to show off some of the new mechanics/RPG elements and convo stuff, I'll be right here with you going "WTF Bioware? It's not ALL about the action damn you!" and shaking my fist haha :)

I noticed a lack of everything in the ~10 minutes of footage I saw.

Probably because it was ~10 minutes of footage.

I saw that too but I don't think that’s an indicator that the whole game will be like that. Its a demo and they are only really showcasing the combat right now.
I’m hoping they do show us a bit about the dialogue and NPC reactions to different approaches later. I know they want new players but surely that is a selling point for this sort of game? And I hope they got rid of the paragon / renegade speech system from ME2.

How much of the new RPG stuff can they really show?  A confrence consisting of "Look, this skill branches into two skills more than once!" and "Look, if I add a scope to this assault rifle, the assault rifle gets scope!" sounds kind of short and boring. Another press confrence about  the promise of having deeper relationships with non-love interests would contain a mountain of spoilers that fans don't want to see before they play the game.
