The two women fighting this picture are not  ripped by any standard but I would personal would not get to take a right hook from either one

Bodybuild in the MMA series varies a lot, see pic below:

Not the point. Nothing in my post  says that  there were not  different body  buildes or that they were all small.   The point is that Shepard could  be  Feather weight  or light wieght and still hit just as if not harder than most  of sitting discussing.

So the notion that shepard has to be this  body builder type build to to be effective in a fight is non sense.

And why is it nonsense?

There is a reason why feather-weight class fighters don't fight against heavier classes, they have more muscle mass and hit harder. You can argue all you want but in the end bigger muscles means more strength and harder hits. Simple physics.
World-class mixed martial arts fighters (male and female) don't bulk up because they're bored or exercise is so much fun.
If I were Shepard (male or female) I'd get as physically fit as possible to be as effective as possible in fights.

I was just reading through the these Ashley threads and thought back to both ME1 and ME2. And when I think about it it's odd that female characters really looked so fragile. I rewached the sex scene from ME1 and even Ashley didn't have an athletic body. I mean shouldn't soldier women be a bit more muscular? I can understand some are using biotics and stuff, but still, they are suposed to be in a good condition to run fast and take hits, sometimes maybe even fist fights can take place. If you'd ask me I'd say that both Jack and Miranda for example should atleast have visible abs, and at most some visible biceps, yet they have a flat stomach and thin hands.

So what do you think?

Actually visible abs isn't good for the body, flat stomach is good though however the way females look in this game is fan service..... same as the Asari race and it annoys the hell out of me.

True mate, however I lift weights and keep fit so when I see these "strong" female characters that look so doll'd up and delicate I laugh at the pathetic men BW has done this for.

This problem also exists in DA2 where they try to fit every male character into a single body and try to fit every female character into another body.

I always found it jarring that Femshep, Ashley,Miranda, etc all have the same physique as someone like Kelly. It really stretches believability when you see femshep punching out Turians with bare fists or carrying Kaidan over her shoulders on Virmire.

Ashley and Femshep should have had MMA fighter type physiques.

No, thanks...

Besides, why is Joker that muscular? ;P

Joker is on the juice lol anyway I'd like to know honestly why people want these "sexy" characters? I'd rather an accurate portayal instead of this fanservice... unfortunatley the majority prefer shinny and pretty things.

PS. In 15 years or so when virtual reality is viable I hope people are scaned for their rough bodybuild and in world characters will represent themselves in RL. (don't mind my tangent tendencies lol)

The amount resources humanity puts into the pursuit of beauty is staggering. You can be sure that people 200 year into the future will be a great deal more beatitful then they are today. In fact ugliness and obesity could very well be eradicated with genetherapy.

The problem is not wanting to look at sexy characters. The problem is people having wrong idea of sexy. Sexy should be healthy and practical, not suffering to achive someting mind made.

But it's very hard, if not impossible to get prefferences from your head when it's already there. I for example like to see the different side of not completely healthy, like this. But I can't do anything about it.

But it would be nice of course if biware made more different body types for both males and females and turian females.

Honestly? The female characters wouldn't look like MMA fighters (average MMA fighters, as there are all sorts of physiques in mixed martial arts), because they're not necessarily world class hand to hand combatants anyway; they're soldiers. They should basically look like they have the relative fitness of your average marine physique, maybe even slightly less bulk in general because they're carrying lighter future equipment with lots of plastics and polymers, lightweight ablative ceramics, etc., and they operate in both weightless and low gravity environments often. Also, the average space marine suit should (and does in ME) have artificial muscle (future soldier and next generation space suits are intended to do this, and are in widespread development at various stages), so their natural strength would be greatly augmented.

They shouldn't look like Susie Homemaker, or fashion models on diets, but they also generally wouldn't be overly bulky or ripped. They would generally be fit, but lean towards high agility and high endurance, so they could be as effective as possible in a tight firefight, and so they could maintain a high level of performance in a protracted deployment, respectively.

So, somewhere between average Marine fitness, and average Astronaut. Then vary it up depending on body frame, personality, and areas of proficiency. They definitely should not all have the same body type, and that is one thing ME2 did well, at least. The same goes for male characters. They shouldn't generally look like MMA powerhouses.

Wouldn't complain if MShep/Jacob/other marines were also not bulky, and looked like an average men.

Or should we expect the Idioracy future?
anyway their shouldn't be any over weight people, first month of working out is the hardest then after that you can't wait to workout.... people need to stop making excuses (end of health rant lol)

Are we all trying to PC away from the real reason why these characters need to be sexd up? its the same reason theres crap like trueblood, twilight and other dribble like that.

Trueblood's an excellent show. Don't compare it to Twilight. Sexy =/= crap, thank you very much. And Trueblood generally doesn't feature unrealistic bodies. Jason Stackhouse is a very attractive dude, but that's part of his character. I'll just assume you haven't actually seen enough of it to have a legit analysis.

Trueblood's a great example of body styles and natural attractiveness treated realistically, aside from vampires not being drooling monsters like some people think they should be. It's sexy because it doesn't shy away from sex, not because it's in any way glamourized, and that's how ME should be as well, in that area.

Facepalm, I'd hate to play as a character thats weaker than myself (yes I'm athletic), just a few hours, five days a week and you can be fit too....

The story is crap, the whole show survives on the sex scenes.  Vampires out in the open and government haven't rounded them up? old rich powerful men aren't hunting these things so they too can live forever? once you start thinking about that world you realise the shows story breaks down when boobs are off screen.

You don't actually watch the show, do you? I watch every episode because it's a great show, and sex scenes are not there when they shouldn't be, plot wise. You don't know what you're talking about.

@Last Vizard's previous post

That's assuming people even have a few hours a day, five days a week, which most don't, and that's assuming people don't have other issues that prevent them from working out nearly as effectively as a healthy person. I've got serious injuries, ongoing. I'm a normally athletic person who was always in pretty good shape. Now I'm hurt and asking 10 hours a week of serious excercise (weights or running) is asking quite a lot too much. I've also had asthma for nearly two decades. So I've gained some weight. Still, under that, I'm in better internal shape than 98%+ of people out there, when it comes to blood, etc. I can still do some things physically that most can't just because my body is just naturally different. You wouldn't have a clue if you saw me on the street right now.

But yeah, they should all be fit. Fit, however, does not mean bulked up. It also does not mean every character should be maintaining a dedicated body sculpting regimen. That's as unrealistic as assuming every character should be a supermodel.

I only watched the first couple episodes of TB however my friend who likes Vampires more than i do (I like the living forever part) is still watching it and updates on who bured who in concrete and who bled who to sell to humans lol I do have a rough grasp on the situation of the world over three seasons so far.

Damn, I hope you get better soon because I hate it when you know your stronger than you currently are... if that makes sense, my brother is still recovering from a knee injury he got playing Rugby however lucky for him it was only a blood cyst between the joint when they opened his knee up.

PS. I work 12 hour days at a coal mine in Queensland however I work an equal time roster, If I can find the time I'm sure most can.

Well, sure, the juicy sex and death parts. ;-) I'll only say that hearing the 'highlights' second hand and actually watching the drama unfold are two vastly different experiences. I like hightened drama, in general, not melodrama so much, or overriding understatement. That's the one thing all of my favorite shows (excluding Chuck, more slapstick, and Weeds, which is more sardonic) over the last decade have in common.

Thank you, seriously. That's exactly how I feel. Frustrated and limited. And well wishes to your brother, also. One of my injuries (the less serious, actually, full motion most of the time now) is torn meniscus in my right knee. I couldn't bend or straighten it all the way for eight months. (years ago now, no insurance for surgery) I know how frustrating knee problems can be.

I used to work in television, and I'd be on my feet for eight or ten hours a day, ten to fourteen hour workday, but I got my workout in while at the job, then I'd make it in from the drive home and pass out. My mom, on the other hand, does therapy for eight hours a day, spends two hours+ driving, then does another five or six hours of paperwork, on an average workday. Then fits cooking, cleaning, etc. around that. She's got a fairly common work load, I think. Most people work, eat, wind down, sleep, then repeat for most of the week, and don't have the energy to do more on those days, in my experience. Our society is built on getting the absolute most work out of each individual in a day as it possibly can. We should be more like Europe, with limitations on just how much your job can monopolize your life, but we're not there yet.

also, p.s., Be careful with those mines. Good luck to you. :-)

@Sharizah I asked the same question! Why IS Joker that buff?

I bet Seth Green had something to do with it ^_^

Anyway, as much as I'd love my FemShep to look like Iris Kyle back there, the fact of the matter is that when bullets are involved being smaller is better. That's why the military doesn't really encourage the James Vega look.

They did an ok job with Shepard's body type, but it could have definitely used more muscle to make those super human feats look more realistic.

Honestly, 75% of the awesomeness of Haywire was seeing an actress that looked entirely physically capable of kicking all the ass she ran across. Brutal fight scenes too. I hope to see more of Gina Carano doing... well anything else she wants to do well
