Her size never bothered me. I've been thrown in MA classes by people under 12 and over a foot shorter then me, so envisioning a small framed special forces marine is no problem. I actually like the slender-but-fit physique of ME1, and how elegantly the (sometimes ridiculous but usually sleek and awesome) form fitting armor showed it. I actually run with unlocked low-resolution ME1 armors even while playing ME2, because the shoulderpads and bulk of the new armor is pretty silly to me.

Granted in the arms department though, they were unnaturally slimmed to fit up into the armpit area. It's especially bad in the Alliance Casual suit (the one from ME1, or that you can hack to unlock in ME2) but it shows in the Cerberus suit to a certain extent also. Comes from slimming the waist up too high on the torso and having to widen the rib area suddenly to meet the shoulders.

Scientifically speaking, either shep must be getting one hell of a boost from whatever enhancements they have, because knocking a krogan back would just not be possible seeing as one in full armor weighs in at about 1 ton.

And don't even get me started on the whole biotic thing, as the stated 1250 newton max power equates to only about 280 pounds of force, which is roughly equivalent to a professional boxers JAB. :/

Her being a huge bodybuilder? No I don't want that. What I want is some muscle definition and tone like a gymnast or a runner. She looks way to skinny to me.

The women in ME are equally as athletic as the men imo. Male Shepard is hardly big or ripped either.

Femshep and Ash's odd lack of muscular definition... at least at the
level you'd expect from athletes... while someone like Joker limps
around with a well toned torso... has always bothered me. =/

What's jarring is that Sheploo and the male squadmates have physiques like this....

Image IPB

.....while femshep and the female squadmates have the bodies of frail out of shape housewives.

It kills the immersion when I see my femshep have the exact same physique as a non-combatant like Kelly.

I've gotta admit, I kinda agree with this thread. would be nice if Shep had a little more definition. I think the bodybuilder or fulltime athlete pics may be pushing it but at least something to show she's special forces. N7 are supposed to be the best of the best. She can still be a light build but a lil toning here and there would help. Ashley may not be N7 but she's a marine too and should have something to show for it as well. After all, Gunny Ellison hated goldbricking :)

I think that those pictures of the Israeli army women that were posted were a bit silly as a counter argument. Those were just average joe, general conscripts, hell I know a pair of Israeli guys who can barely keep up with my sorry ass who did their service back home. I'm pretty sure the Mossad task forces are in SLIGHTLY better shape! The dumpy, skinny and average builds didn't matter for the CSEC guys and gals, they're just workaday cops, doing a tough job for decent pay but we're talking about a krogan headbutting savior to the galaxy here! Hoorah indeed.

This is female Shepard's only unique appearance

Image IPB

I've always thought she looked slightly more toned than the generic bodies the other outfits give.

True, it is indeed better.

I just thought of this though randomly

Maleshep doesn't need to be huge. He's a man. It's easy to find men who are thin and strong (I think male shep actually looks muscular) . Women (even muscular women) on the other hand are often weaker than men who are much smaller or skinnier than they are. It just the way it is. Men are just built stronger period.

The problem is the game just substitutes femshep for male shep in almost all scenes. Whatever he can do, she can do. It often makes things which are believable with maleshep unbelievable (or even totally cartoonish) with femshep.

True. But in armor FemShep looks as fit as a fiddle. Some images to demonstrate:

I understand when it's Jacob who runs around with shotgun or Zaeed who's soldier-class, but when my Vanguard femShep carried Sentinel Alenko back on the Normandy and some time later it was directly shown she has far thinner arms than Kaidan...

Give us at least something to believe that femShep equally may headbutt krogan and punch Yahg - different body build, different animations, just something.

I'd love to have a FemShep with the body of a soldier, but I'm almost afraid to say it out loud. I fear that if they decide to give FemShep separate body build and animations, that will lead to massive breasts and a DA2 type walk/run. With the new FemShep designs I sorta lost my faith in BioWare's ability to decide what's enough and what's too much.

Being a biotic is not an excuse to the lack of proper fitness/physique. Actually, read the codex "Biotics - Life as a biotic" entry. At the min. 4500 calories a day? That, and supposing that the Alliance is unlikely to utilize obese space mages, one can only assume that marines with biotic abilities not only eat more, they train more to stay fit. Healthy bodies have healthy metabolism. Biotics may not be Gear of War-esque hulks of meat, but they certainly are fit. It could mean lean bodies, but considering the amount of protein they have to digest, it is likely they are at least moderately "buff" --- male and females alike.

It's a bit of a faff making normal looking human beings on the unreal engine(Yeah I'm looking at your GoW,not everyone is built like The Rock) as stated above,if they made femshep tottally different she would be built like a tank(and have massive breast...) I think if she was built like Kasumi it would be more reasonable,Kasumi isn't a bodybuilder but she isn't built frail.

Aye, everything is spot on in the armor.  Out of the armor something like below might be better.  Plus one of the main reasons I love playing as femshep (particularly orphan femshep) is the idea that she's an example of how a person who starts out with few social/genetic advantages can build themselves up to be a strong hero, physically and mentally.  In any case, I can't say I'm particularly bothered if the body stays the same *shrugs*.

Speaking of Gina Carano, has anyone seen her in the new Haywire trailer?  Maybe they should cast her as Femshep since she can apparently act now.

Femshep is stronger than she look's because of genetics enhancement. Humans have been using it since the 22nd century. It's in the codex.

I always found it jarring that Femshep, Ashley,Miranda, etc all have the same physique as someone like Kelly. It really stretches believability when you see femshep punching out Turians with bare fists or carrying Kaidan over her shoulders on Virmire.

Ashley and Femshep should have had MMA fighter type physiques.

But this swings both ways - Udina, Pressly or Engineer Adams with the same body frame as (male) Shepard?

That said, I fully agree, the one size fits all bodies are sometimes quite odd.

That is problematic as well, like seeing someone who sits on his ass all day like Joker being buff.

That's sooo thrue like when i saw Joker's legs i was upset i've played soccer for 9+years and do calf lifts everyday and my calves look like that of a 10year old girl compared to his.

And next, we'll have to remake everybody in the series because ''looking that good isn't realistic''.
I'm sorry, but face it. Both men and women in media are overly sexualized, the difference is that a small part of the men's overly-sexualized attributes (the muscles) make some amount of sense, but even then, few of the most decorated soldiers of today look that good, not even the best soldiers have lots and lots of muscles.
