On top of that she probably tries not to sacrifice too much agility so won't be redundantly bulky. So whatever a body is meant to look after being conditioned for that, that's probably the kind of body Shep should have.
Where does the myth come from that increase in muscle mass decreases agility? Increasing muscle mass by lets say 30lbs is a big amount of extra muscle, yet 30lbs isn't nearly enough to slow you down at all, and strength to move that extra weight increases too.
If lots of extra muscle mass would slow you down and make you less agile all the top martial arts fighters were idiots.

so you want Femshep and Ashley to look like merril from MGS4?
Sign me up. Meryl looks great and she looked best in that wedding dress at the end

Well I was coming up with a Mass Effect character concept, what do you think of this sort of physique?By thekillerangel at 2011-07-28
Nice picture, I think it would be perfect.
Doesn't have to be like Meryl. I wouldn't mind either though.
I just hate how Shepard's arms look like you could break them like a twig. Even taking into account real life body proportions and what you see on a screen, her arms would still look out of place.

While I will admit Meryl is a bit on the LARGE size, she is still good looking, and I wouldn't mind one bit if FemShep was comparable in muscle mass.

I don't know? Can't say *I'm* perpetuating it though... I more or less said that being redundantly bulky would decrease her agility. Meaning, having too much mass could decrease her agility (or simply speed); ergo, having enough muscle mass wouldn't necessarily. E.g. look at sprinters; they need to have enough muscle mass (of the appropriate kind), but not too much - presumably there is a range within which maximises their performance at that particular sport. But if you know any ripped and massive body builders who can run faster than your typical sprinter, I'd like to see it. Also look at boxers; aren't heavyweights, on average, less agile, than those in lighter categories. I think my head would explode if a heavyweight boxer could move with the speed of someone like Pacquiao.

actually, this just hit me. If they need a model for attractive and physically fit female leads, gina carrano fits the bill very nicely.
Absolutely, FemShep with her appearence would make me want to play a female character for the first time in a Bioware game.
it would make it difficult to focus on gameplay. you'd constantly be turning the camera around to look at yourself close up. lol

Yes this is what i think of when i see femshep in her armour. She is compact and strong. I really hope that bioware will give femshep some arm muscle, i would think she would be even more sexy. Why give her such a weak physic?

It's for the same reason that most of the female cast wear cat suits in mass effect 2, bioware can't make female characters with out making them overtly sexualised.
That is absolutely not true.

While I completely agree with you, BW won't do this. A woman this muscular just doesn't appeal to the general male audience -- aka, their main source of income. While I highly doubt that BW will over sexualize femShep, I also thoroughly doubt that they'll give her more muscle just to appease people looking for "realism".

Look at Lance Armstrong. He has muscles in his legs, where he needs them, and not much on the upper body. He is a cyclist. This makes sense.
Therefore. A more athletic Shep makes sense. But I certainly wouldn't say that she needs to be top heavy. I'm actually fine with the way Shep looks. Though I agree that, from a character viewpoint, Ash would likely spend a lot of time in the gym. So if she looked something like Gina Carrara I'd be fine.
Most people know Gina Carrara's because she is attractive. So that kinda throws your 'strong women aren't sexy' argument out of the water.
In all honesty. Bioware has maybe two female body models (normal and Samara). And one male body type. Its a resource issue, plain and simple. But I'm okay with it.

And actually, BioWare went a bit of the way in the extra mile and gave all of the female squad mates different bodies. Shepard uses the basic human/asari body model, but Jack and Miranda are clearly different.
It's actually kind of CRAZY that BioWare doesn't use a unique body model for both Shepards.

I wouldn't take FemShep's or Ash's physique any further than this

That being said, it would be nice to see a little more muscle definition... and give me some abs!
Hell, I have the same physique as ME2 femshep, and apart from bi-monthly paintball, I'm not physically active at all.
Also, wouldn't it be nice to have some exercise equipment on the Normandy? It's amazing how fit the Normandy crew stays without it.

Don't forget you're talking about the very elite of certain disciplines, specialists, these athletes are only good at one or two disciplines at all. To make a valid comparison FemHawke would have to look like a tricked out super body builder, but thats not what I meant.AwesomeName wrote...

Do you remember basketball star Shaquille O'Neal who recently retired? Quite a huge guy, ripped as hell and very tall too - and one of the most agile players on the field. If you are slow and cumbersome you'll totally suck at baketball, agility is one of the key requirements for this sport.
Or watch K1 martial arts on the sports channel, lots of 6'4'' plus tall ripped 250lbs guys spin kicking, dodging and moving faster than most ordinary people half their size.
Forget heavy weight boxing, thats a very static sport and some of athletes are in a horrible shape too.
