Jeweledleah is right, and you're wrong.  The reason why men can attain much higher levels of muscle mass with far less effort than women (and keep it as well) is due to hormones.  Men make 10 to 20 times as much testosterone as women do for instance, which has a tremendous effect on muscle hypertrophy.

In fact, the only way a woman can attain comparable levels of muscle mass to a man is to take steroids or other artificial testosterone enhancers.

Everyone wants to fit the stereotypes, toned women = bad so most women don't even try to do weights thus creating the common misconception that women can't have any muscles without taking dodgy supplements and hormones.

Women are absolutely capable of getting toned and even muscular with simple weight exercises, changing the physique and looks.
Sure, men can without a doubt grow much bigger stronger muscles than women due to their testosterone levels.

In fact, the only way a woman can attain comparable levels of muscle mass to a man is to take steroids or other artificial testosterone enhancers.

Well, a trained women can be much stronger and can easily go beyond the muscle mass of an untrained everyday male.

^I think no one in his/her right mind doubts that. Besides, women have other opportunities up their sleeve to counteract reduced muscle potential. I am just saying Leliana was spot on in her explanation on why women make great infiltrators ...

This is why many professional female bodybuilders tend to go for hormone increase, which causes the absurd man-chin and beard we so often see in very muscular women, ofcourse this could happen to hormone imbalance by nature, but somehow i doubt this is the case for most bodybuilders.

There is also a difference between military fit, and a bodybuilder. Someone who is fit for the military has fat reserves, a bodybuilders on the other hand tries to get rid of all the fat in the body, to make to muscles look more massive.

Also looking at the video Kaiser posted, i also agree femshep is enough of a butch already, i mean look at those arms, sheploo aint got **** on her.

And really, do you want her to look like Jacob? I think only Wolden would appreaciate that. He obviously has the fetisch.

If FemSheps arms were any thinner they would fall off like twigs, shes not even on the level of amateur-athletes, she has the physique of an below-average person yet she is the savior of the whole galaxy, punches aliens 5 times her size, is a spec-ops, performs physically demanding stunts etc.

And really, do you want her to look like Jacob? I think only Wolden would appreaciate that. He obviously has the fetisch.

Go ahead and believe whatever you want because I couldn't care less what a person thinks of me that can't even spell my name right and argues like a 14 year old, all I can say is I would prefer a female protagonist that looks as tough as she acts and sounds, not a protagonist that looks like the girl next door.

And where did I say I want her to look like Jacob? Pulled that one out of your arse, huh?

In fact, Bioware knows how tough female heroes look like, one of the few things they did right in DA2, FemHawke looks like a warrior that can wield weapons and fight.

Not muscular, just... toned. Lean muscles like a swimmer, not bulky like a body builder.

I am in full support of not sexualizing female characters, but I want something decent to look at while I play. Keep the nice curve at the small of the back. A bit more toning and the model is perfect.

That's Jaime Eason at competition. Probably one of the few well-known female body builders who doesn't cross over into looking like a man after lifting. I've seen her look bigger though I don't know if it was a shop or not. On a bodybuilder forum she actually confirmed that she can develop size and she doesn't take steroids to get any of her looks.

Do you happen to know a female Spec op? or any spec op at all? I've met a female spotter/sniper in service, and she sure as hell didn't look like a roid monkey, or a man. Atleast know what you are talking about, i'm amazed how some of you people think spec ops look like Gears.

The shadow broker thing doesnt even make sense if a krogan did it, it doesn't even make much sense how sheploo can punch a Yagh.
You don't need to be a bodybuilder to do physically demanding stunts, you need to be FIT, that has got nothing to do with being buff and muscle toned. It's like saying big toned muscles make you a good fighter, because you can look like an adonis, and punch like a grandma.

I've done some military service, and some of the SATs i met had a beergut, a BEERGUT. and they where still fit, and ready for heavy firefights, excercise, the whole 9 yards/

You talk about toning but all the pics here about female muscle building, some to the extreme. And toning is about aesthetics, your argument about femshep being too weak would be worth a notice, if you didn't go for aesthetics, but for fitness, i mean actual fittness, not just decreasing fat to define muscle better. No military man or woman runs around without fat reserves, some days you burn over 10 000 calories, you would die if you didn't have any fats.

@ Xeranx. you are confusing figure competitions with actual bodybuilding competitions. they are different divisions and have different competitors.

most bodybuilders claim that they don't take steroids its whatever the supplement they are promoting these days that's allowing them to develop their muscles past certain size. riiight. well to be fair, the "supplements" that figure and fitness competitors take have different purpose. they are not looking for size, just certain degree of definition and above all else - symmetry. and she's not even a fitness competitor - she's a model. at least fitness competitors are genuinely strong.

that said - instead of looking to fitness models, how about looking at actual athletes? female fighters, gymnasts, etc. or better yet - how about female soldiers?

like I've said before and will say again - definition like the fitness models have is not possible unless you specifically deliberately work for it (not to mention- they flex their muscles when posing - read upon posing basics - they teach you how to make sure your muscles are flexed while looking relaxed and poised - and its something you have to practice.. a LOT). female athletes have little of it unless they are shown in action. and depending on genetic make up - they can look pretty darn skinny. case in point

http://usagym.org/pa...ages/index.html
http://images.nymag...._nastia_lgl.jpg

now let me be clear. I'm actually a fan of bodybuilding and fitness, and I'm in awe at the results they achieve and supplements or not - they put in a LOT of hard work to look the way they do. but I have no illusions about their bodies. they look the way they do becasue its their job to look that way. they work out the way they do, because their purpose is to look that way.

I agree. Bodybuilders aren't a good example. Don't they focus on building the image of their bodies, not the physical performance?

umm - well yeah?  allow me to underline the part of my post where I said EXACTLY THAT.  I showed athletes as a benchmak, because even althletes don't all look shredded and/or big and sports are their jobs.

@ RealyRue - fitness competitors do both.  but it pretty much consumes their life, especialy close to competition.  very strict diets, exercise regiment etc.

All of these look about right to me. Keep in mind Mass Effect is not trying to be a simulation of reality rather it is a
representation of a fantasy. A highly personalized one at that, everyone is going to have their own opinions, fetish's and tastes. It is impossible to account every possible style. I think three different options would be the most
that is feasible to do.  (I. E. Skinny, same as ME2, one of the above)

Those saying that FemShep would not look like the above pictures are correct. Soldiers do primarily go for stamina over raw strength. That said it's a fantasy, a dream, an ideal we can aspire to achieve. And in that context I see no reason why we could not use one of the examples above.

Does anybody have a picture of an actual female Marine? That is probably your best bet.

If anybody is stationed in Afghanistan right now, snap a few pictures of the ladies. Perferably not the ones with assault rifles (that may end badly for you).

No, but I've seen some when I was in Georgia for the second half of my military training.

They range from what FemShep looks like in ME1 and 2 to some with arms almost as big as the biggest men.

I remember this one I saw in the hall where I was taking my classes and her arms were pretty buff.
