Well I'm starting a duelist what’s a good build to stand toe to toe with enemies and should I wear medium or light armor?

If you're going to wield two swords then you need high strength, which means you might as well wear medium. There's some controversy over activated abilities and whether they're worth it, but I find them useful and as such I would stay with medium and not go heavy or massive.

I went with a tilt towards dex with my rogue two weapon fighter. eventually I started adding strength but dex grants a bonus to hit and for defence making it a bit more important. Also, dex adds to damage from daggers and bow rather than strength and your off hand weapon is always a dagger (for me so far - but that's okay as the daggers are really big. Almost shortsword looking).
The down side is at level 11 I still have not found a book or teacher to unlock the duelest path. Subclasses like ranger, duelest, etc don't kick in until 7th level, assuming you find the activation info for the class you want. I ended buying a ranger book so I cold be a ranger so I at least have some extra abilities active.

As a duelist you should focus on dexterity + cunning you dont need strength at all with Lethality. Also dual wield daggers as a duelist for the higher critical + armor penetration. You will be able to pick 2 specialization. A duelist/assassin is excellent melee DPS.
