Garrus - replaced by Garrus' sister, looking for the man she feels caused her brother's death. When he's alive she joins you as a support character for some mission.
Jack? No replacement, other than whatever new characters they're adding (and there will be new characters).

Seriously though, I wouldn't mind knowing either, although, I have a sneaking suspicion that many of the replacement characters are ones we have seen before.

The problem is that a lot of those people can be potentially killed, too. The list of major combat-capable characters who are impossible to kill in ME1 and ME2 is kinda short.Rolling Flame wrote...

Why do people who purposely killed off characters feel they're entitled to replacements? If they're dead leave them dead and play the entire game with VS, Liara, and Vegas
There are also optional squad members.

It would be interesting to see how it plays out. If Wrex died his brother replaces him in Tuchanka. He has quite a different dialogue but his core function and role and political stance is almost identical, which I find acceptable but a rather poor way to seal the gap in the plot and seemingly obvious ad hoc.
We can assume that you'd got to have at least one biotic/combat/tech squadmate. We know that Liara has survived and is an Adept-sort. I'd like to see what Ash's special abilities would be but Kaidan was a Sentinel and I would expect him to remain as such having a Miranda-esque role in the party. We also know that we got James Vega who'd probably not be the tech expert, for what my guesses are worth.
If Tali and Legion died you'd have a substantial lack of tech power at your disposal. Could we expect a new unannounced squadmate?
Just as pure speculation goes, Legion would have had the ability to 'download' himself to another platform before 'dying'. Considering that we have seen him in the E3 gameplay, is it possible that we would see a a comeback of him even if he was destroyed at the SM?

When Legion is carried off by the seeker swarms, they keep saying "NO CARRIER" - there's no signal to beam the programs out of the galactic core safely. Plus, you could, theoretically, simply never activate Legion and give it to Cerberus, thus preventing them from ever uploading themselves to the geth collective.Waltzingbear wrote...

Vega=Infiltrator
Ashley=Soldier
Kaidan=Sentinel
Liara=Adept
Tali=Engineer
Garrus=Infiltrator
I know Bioware said that Vega isn't the Big Ben Sniper but he looks a great deal like him and Bioware has retconned their trailer before (Satele Shan in The Old Republic 2010 E3 trailer). Big Ben is using a sniper rifle and the game has a need of tech experts if Garrus, Tali, and Kaidan are dead.

Just to clear it out. So that ending is for lolz?
I just remember Bioware saying at some point something about there being a new character...

How do you know James is an Infiltrator? I recall something about him being dynamic, perhaps he'll play Soldier if Kaidan is VS and Sentinel if Ash is the VS?
I'm an Infiltrator anyways. Don't need two others.

Mordin's relative who has some of Mordin's research (if you kept it.)
Some other Krogan, or maybe Wrex's relative.
Etc.
As for permanent squad mates I'm not totally sure. I think Hudson or some other dev on the forums said something along the lines of that if they are dead you just don't have that spot in your squad or something.

Not that I'd have a problem with that personally, but it would be too punishing for Bioware to pull off today if you happened to kill all of your tech experts.SkittlesKat96 wrote...

Agreed. Not out of viciousness, but out of want for BW to avoid cop-outs. Having Urdnot Wreav was bad enough; took a lot of the gravitas out of visiting a Tuchanka with Wrex the reformist gone. If you want a Quarian, Turian, and a Prisoner, replay ME2 and don't kill them off!
