Nope, Prothy is definitely the DLC. Bioware really screwed up with this one, letting it slip seven months early. Oh well, more info for us.

So for those of you counting, that gives us six living squadmates: Ashley/Kaidan, Vega, Liara, Tali, Garrus, and Prothy. I wonder who the last few characters will be...

There are no others, that's about it?

The DLC should be the 7th and it doesn't make a lot of sense that a prothean would be a DLC character. A living, breathing (and I'm guessing a normal, not-a-Collector) prothean would be kind of, sort of... A BIG GODDAM DEAL. Not something that would be relegated to a Zaeed-type squad mate. Wouldn't you have SOME QUESTIONS for the bloody... thing?! Wouldn't anyone?! Besides, by now, we have pretty strong indication that a prothean will be found in that new chamber in the Mars bunker.

I'm trying to imagine what having the prothean as a DLC would mean. It would need to impact the story and reactions you get... somehow! Wouldn't people be curious about this new species they haven't seen or met before? Wouldn't they stop and ask what the F! that is? Imagine Legion's presence on Tali's missions. And now imagine how little friggin impact THAT had and the ZERO friggin impact it had EVERYWHERE ELSE!!! You'd think people would know what a friggin geth looks like, considering THEY JUST ATTACKED THE CITADEL NOT TWO YEARS AGO?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!1/1?!?1?!?1?1/1/1/1?!?!??@!?>@?>2?!312.3/.ERafd,a,dgla;lmgmgadpjgaodkfakdfqekwqretysucvzbvnmlzmafldjsfsdzvzfjkzrjzekdfjkkd/!?!?a//1/1/1/q/q.w;!?!?agsdgffewinafpadmGDA?GGg...

I thought my mind was going to explode... ... ... but I'm okay now.

It seems to me that the only way this would work, not excluding the above, would be if the prothean was already a person on your ship, but say in the capacity of folks like Dr. Chakwas and Joker - not part of your squad mates, but who does someship - already having dialogue and crap in the core game and the DLC only making it possible for her/him to be part of the away team.

:)...:?

Basically, Prothy was deemed too important and moved from being a DLC squaddie to the vanilla game. He *was* originally going to be DLC but BioWare changed their minds after it dawned on them how utterly stupid it would be for a Prothean to be DLC only.

Is that true? I really hope it is.

I think it would be way cool if the prothen were still alive, but I doubt it.

No it's true, it appeared on the description of the Collector's Edition on the new EA Origin website, but they have now removed that specific line, on the Mass Effect website as well. Guess it was meant to be a surprise. ^^

Actually, nope... Bioware person dropped by in another thread (might have been Chris Priestly I think) and said that was scrapped awhile ago but they forgot to delete the text for it.

Actually, YEP!  here is the proof.

How many times did Casey Hudson and Evil Chris "deny" multiplayer? How many people decided to interpret their vague, non-committal, politician-esque rhetorical responses as absolute refutation because that's what they wanted to hear?

I'm not pointing fingers here, but anyone who didn't learn from that experience that when bioware says no, without saying no, what they really mean is "yes, but we're not going to say it", should go and get a brain scan. Just don't be surprised when it comes back negative.

It isn't always the case, but it's a good rule of thumb that when they deny things in that way they either have plans for it, or are just screwing with us.

It's often both.

I mean this in all seriousness, and am honestly not being snarky or derisive here; but could you actually provide me with an example of that? (By "that" I mean Bioware screwing with us in the aforementioned manner) I would be most grateful, and wasn't trying to come off as a know-it-all in my previous post. That said, I feel a pretty solid conviction in my assesment.

One clear example is Legion. When many people figured out Legion was going to be a squadmate they denied it.

They did the same with Kasumi.

Since it's already been stated I have a link to the leaked script and if anyone wants it you can find out if a Prothean is or isn't a squadmember based off of the most likely final script which we will be seeing in full on 3/6/12. All squadmates are listed with their names. Some may look like they're squadmates but read their spoilers closely and you will read otherwise. Won't say who, but if you want PM me and I'll send a link.

Waaaaiiiit a dern second there... The protheans have been extinct for over fifty MILLENIA. That's 50,000 years plus. If Vigil couldn't keep the guys on Ilos alive for more than a few centuries, I highly doubt anything the protheans had could last for that long. But then again, this is a game where you can shoot 'lectricity through "element zero" to change the mass of pretty much anything, so Imma keep an open mind.

I DON"T!!!!! and I'm not sure where the enthusiasm for one cones from.

I find the whole idea retarded on it's face.

While I would not llike a prothean DLC squadmate and mission, I would not be oppesed to a prothean related mission with a DLC squad mate who actually makes sense.

So this mission and character DLC comes for free with Collector's edition but what about the 'bog standard' edition? Is it a day one purchase thing or is it like Zaeed? If it is former case, I can't believe a mission and character DLC was planned for day one purchase 8+ months before the game was going to be released.
