Okay... maybe now isn't the time to be reviving a debate from twenty five pages ago, but I have to say it: vodka is a pointless spirit. Sorry, but it's true. I'll probably catch some hell if there are Scandinavians, Poles, or Russians lurking about, but as a fan of fine cocktails, I want a liquor that will play well with the other components of the cocktail, not something that doesn't add any more to taste than the melted ice in the drink.
All right, I don't deny that vodka has its place in certain types of cocktail, but I'll take a nice microbrew anyday. For sipping liquors, give me an Islay single malt scotch, small batch bourbon or maybe a good armagnac.
Now that that's done, we can move on.
give me a good bottle of white rum. or a pint of Kilkenny irish cream.
