Ok, I just watched some of the new footage courtesy of E3 of ME3 and naturally I'm impressed, foaming at the mouth and preparing my cryogenic tube and setting it for March next year.  But that isn't what I'm making this thread to talk about.  We were all taken for a pleasant surprise when we got ME2 and it was soo different from ME1 in terms of combat, appearance, dialogue, everything.  ME2 was hailed for being a true sequel in that nothing was spit up from the first installment and rehashed ever so slightly just to say that they released another game.  Having seen some gameplay from ME3 I'm worried that there aren't so many leaps and bounds as there were from ME1 to ME2.  Given these are the first gameplay trailers and they have more than a half a year to work on it (sad face...), so it is entirely possible that ME3 will be entirely distinctive from ME2 in every way when March 2012 rolls around.
What do you think?  Am I overplaying the importance of needless innovation and should I be taking a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mentality, or are my concerns legitimate?

But, you can jump and roll! That's like super innovative and stuff.

ME1 had a lot of broken systems that needed to be revamped for a sequal, ME2 had a more solid gameplay foundation and so needed less work.

Shepard can jump, climb ladders, go from cover to cover fast and roll forward and to the side.

I don't think he could do any of that in ME2.

Mass Effect 2 wasa perfect sequel and fixed the stuff that needed to be fixed in Mass effect 1, the tiny mass effect 2 problems look like there being fixed, im still not crazy of the Omni-Blade but i didnt like melee combat in me2 ether.

I don't consider any of these complete overhauls similar to changes from ME1 to ME2.  They are more modifications than changes.

The developers have stated that the shift from ME2 to ME3 in terms of combat will not be as dramatic as the leap from ME1 to ME2. In my opinion, that's fine. The combat was greatly enjoyable in ME2. It wasn't in desperate need of fixing like ME1.

I am excited for the new combat features they are adding, though. We can look forward to new powers, new power evolutions, increased options for close combat, improved mobility, different enemies, and customizable weapons, to name a few things.

I don't think ME3 needs such drastical changes.

I like the fact I can now jump over gaps now BW shouldn't make gaps I could run and long jump across or short jump across that end up having invisible walls over them......basically if I see a gap or hole in the floor I want to jump over it and if it looks like I could run, jump, and make it I want to be able to do that.

You guys should also put some tricks that are ninja warrior worthy where you need to move from ledge to ledge or hang by your fingers to get over a high area or something.

I hope crouch comes back in so I don't have to hide behind cover in order to make myself small and it seems in the shots I've seen of Serkesh and Earth they already have too much cover to offer those damn walls are back.
