Vega didn't have an easy start either, there was a lot of irrational hate going on.
And not only because he is an potential S/S LI.
People wanted to kill him off as soon as possible, because they where convinced his question would be annoying. I though the interaction with Ashley was well done and I hope he will ask other Crewmembers more about Shepard.
Maybe even ask about Shepard's past.

Let's hope the writers will know how to handle James' dialogue for him not to make a fool of himself. Then again, there was a tweet about James making these questions but only if you were new to the franchise. At least that was how I understood it.

And that's one reason why I like him (either if it's not in the game). It just sounds so cool him asking about your past. That way, both he and the player can learn more about Shepards past.

I think it was something like "I hope when new info will appear, more fans will come here, more bromance supporters included".

Hope so.

Cause I really don't want to be one of the rare that want Bromance with Vega, like with Kaidan.
Heck, even Jacob has lot of people for Bromance. JACOB!!!

Then again, his Bromance is kinda well done.

It's pretty much only Chewin and Mesina who are on the bromance side of Vega while other are more leaning on S/S:lol::P

yes, seriously, there's leaked footage of talking, saluting Vega and this thread only get's ahead like what ... 10 pages?!

they should release some Kaidan footage ... watch and learn ;)
technically that thread shouldn't move at all, because no one liked, likes or will like Kaidan ... ever :P

Hey!  Kaidan's my favourite character!

Anyway, I actually came into this thread to ask a question.  Do any of you think it's unusual that Vega didn't know that Ashley knew Shepard quite well?  I mean, if someone knew Ashley at all, wouldn't they know she had served on the Normandy and been part of the battle of the Citadel?  Accordingly, I have a suspicion.  I think Vega's character exists in part so that the game has someone to explain things to for new players to the Mass Effect series.  We can't have established characters prefacing every second sentence with "As you know..."  It would drive existing fans around the bend.  But no one's going to object if some things need to be explained to the new guy, and new fans will get their explanation injection at the same time.  Not that I think this is anything to take away from Vega's character.  Every squaddie has had a codex role as well as a story role (e.g. Kaidan as biotics codex, Wrex as krogan codex, etc.), and that has worked reasonably well in the series so far.

Well I was going to answer your question in the Kaidan thread but I'll answer it in here instead!

I was actually curious about the same question as well ie. being if Ashley or Kadian have ever served with James before and so I asked and Mac answered...

Q: "Has Ashley or Kaidan served with James Vega before?"
A: "No they have not... But he may know a few people here and there."
http://twitter.com/#...923368580845569

I believe Kaidan and Ashley didn't get as much PR after Shepard stopped soverign even though they were part of the normandy crew and helped save the citadel. So unless James actually went digging for such information the only thing he likey knew is  Shepard and the crew that served on the normandy saved the citadel, but emphasis on Shepard as they now created Shep to be the Alliance poster  boy/girl.

I don't think Vega really knows alot about what is going on politically, just kinda what the alliance or the vids tell him about the world, kinda like most people today. :P Unless you specifically study and do some reserach about whats happening, you will never get a fully unbiased interpretation of the counts and stories on the news. In this intreview, Casey says that Vega isn't as worldy as the other Squadmates.

From SFX interviewing Casey:
And James Vega is one of the new guys you pick up with you as you’re escaping from Earth. He’s interesting because we haven’t had somebody like this before – he is not as worldly as some of the other characters we’ve met. He’s an Alliance Marine, maybe like a younger version of Shepard.

This shows to me that like you said, James is ment to be that guy that new people will relate to the most because of his limited knowledge on worldly events. I think it will be James that will bring up Shepards history, morals, background, and choices, and Shepard will have to explain to him what really happened and why he did the things he did, without the Alliances or News vids own spinned interpretation.

Thank you for your very comprehensive response, Jilinna. :-) It does make sense for Vega not to be completely up to date on everything, given that he was off the radar for a while. That seems to answer every aspect of my query.

I'm not sure about the whole thing where they didn't get as much PR

when you come back from the dead and walk around the Citadel, Ashley/Kaidan are in the news
but then maybe that's just a one time thing where they finally get some form of recognition

I'm not so sure about having people dig into Shepard's past*, but that may be because I'm on a pure renegade PT and went through that topic with a certain asari archeologist recently ;)

*though I can understand that having Vega ask about these things would allow new players to get some info on what they missed

Hm, about knowing some people here and there who aren't Ashley or Kaidan: who else has connection with Alliance? Jacob?

Not only that, but there is a possibility that Vega knows Ashley just a little bit since she is, after all, a commander and a specter. He probably knows of her or has gotten to know her a little by the beginning of the game, but doesn't know her history.

I actually find Vega to be very confident. He has no qualms talking to Shepard, the Hero of the Alliance, and furthermore he has no trouble talking to/asking questions of a commander and specter. Good on him!

Ew. I have such an aversion to Jacob. I see him as "that piece of furniture on the Normandy." D:

Also, Vega would CLEARLY have better taste in men. ;D

Jacob's a yummy guy. His biggest flaw is that he's an un-evolving character.

Off topic, but that's not necessarily a flaw.  If every character in a game as flooded with characters as Mass Effect 2 were to be dynamic, the changes characters make would seem unimportant.  That's the rule for literature, at least.  I'm not sure it applies to video games.

Touché.

Not necessarily a flaw, right. But Jacob's static nature hurt his popularity.

Sort of. I understand this argument but my problem is that it doesn't make Jacob any less boring and it feels like it's unfair to sacrifice him as a character in order to make the others more believable. I feel like the gap of "normal" should be filled by other, secondary characters in Shepard's crew. For example, Chakwas and Presley (before he died) filled those roles nicely. I understand what they were going for, but it felt to me like Jacob might as well have been a DLC character for all the banter and discussion I ever got out of him. Heck, the DLC characters have way more interesting stories and backgrounds (Kasumi). He also had surprisingly less lines than any other character in the game. Every time I finished a mission everybody had something new to say, more or less. I think I got more "Already?"s out of Jacob than I ever got any kind of answers or conversation from him. It was all: "I was Alliance and I moved to Cerberus because they want to help humanity, their past is checkered, and I am honored to work with you." That's about the extent of his character development if you're playing manShep. By contrast, Miranda is his female equivalent and her story is fascinating and she openly speaks about her past and her connections to Cerberus.

its okay, Thanks though! ^_^

& lol I think it was more so the beta being wonky not the awesome laser's coming out of Vega's eyes. Come on they even say *poof!* after there in use. Hmm.. I wonder if his laser eyes have different catch phrases!

Wait, don't keepers self-destruct when in close proximity or something along those lines ...?
Vega can be my Keeper Catapault in that case. PULL!

lol I forgot that they self distruct! It would be amsuing though...

Shepard: Okay James, when I sit on this keeper in my vain attempt to use the keeper as a personal taxi around the citadel, I want you to start running and go long.
Vega: umm, you do know they will self-destuct if you try right?
Sheaprd: I am not an idiot James...now when I say go long, GO LONG! got it?
Vega: Fine.[smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/angry.png[/smilie]
Shepard: Go long! *sits on the Keeper*...minitues later.... BOOOM! *Shepard is perpepelled through the air*
Vega: Dammit Shepard! *runs and barely catches Shepard in time in his arms*, are you okay commander?
Shepard: Lets do that again!! What do you say?
Vega: *Drops Shepard from his arms and walks away*
Shepard: What? You want a turn?

Although trying to figure out his VA would be awesome ...
lol :P

I've seen some thought that it might be this guy. It is quite similar, but there are small differences, like someone said, the voice is a bit too nasaly/deeper.

I'm still bettin' on a sci-fi actor.  I'll watch the Space channel all day tomorrow and let you guys know what I find:innocent:

I actually agree with you I think its this guy as well, H. Jon Benjamin. I think he sounds like Vega, especially in this video

I always found Jacob's laconism very shocking. I always wondered why he didn't talk more about the Corsairs or the terrorist attack Miranda and he stopped. Maybe it was because that would have been spoiler-y for those who haven't played ME: Galaxy?
