well, there hasn't been any gay/bi LI for mShep
it feels like we've been teased about this ever since the trilogy started and this time it will hopefully finally happen
I might have said it a few times in the Kaidan thread, I'm not pushing for mShenko because I want it for equality*, but because I 'roleplay' one of my mSheps to have a crush on Kaidan and I'd like to be able to pursue that romance (it might not even have crossed my mind if it wasn't for the 'hidden' dialog of transgendered Shepards via console commands)

I was hesitant at first regarding Vega because he just seemed like the über-muscular, stereotypical soldier type (and gawd, I dislike mohawks >_< ), it wasn't even anything BioWare did that made me soften up towards him, it was a fellow fan-artist. And what I've see of him so far in the footage just tempts me to create another Shep to romance him at some point if that's an option. But in most of the playthroughs I'd just like to see the friendship (and potential tutorship) play out of which we saw a beginning in the leaked demo.
Heck even seeing that casual approach turn sour because of renegade actions would be nice

things may settle down a bit; for now, don't think too much about people leaping at the chance to finally get an s/s romance


* don't get me wrong, I'm bi and I fully support hetero-, ******- and bi-relationships, but when it comes to Kaidan I might have less altruistic goals as well

But 3/4ths of this thread seems to revolve around Vega being either gay or bisexual. Its on every page, in uncountable amounts of art work, and nearly half of the posts. 

I just don't want this to be his defining element as a character, and I'm afraid that that's what its become for many users.

I don't think anyone sees it as his definining characteristic. It's mostly just wishful thinking from people in this thread (myself included) who have very little Vega information and basically have to formulate all kinds of theories to keep this thread from dying or going completely off of the deep end and getting locked. We know the game will have M/M romances and Vega is a new male character, a clean slate. It seems natural that the posters could make that leap, even if it turns out to be incorrect.

2. He's the big softie gay guy who loves kittens (dunno where this idea came from, but w/e).

I don't think anyone said anything about him being gay AND a softie. The general joke was, when the reveals first came out showing Vega and everyone was attacking him, that he would be the COMPLETE opposite of a jerk. This where the kitty bit comes in: he's not a jerk, he's a nice guy who cares about animals. Kittens were picked because of their relationship to Anders in Dragon Age. That's the jist of that.

The gay portion came in later and it's unrelated to the "softie" persona.

I guess what I'm trying to say in shortest form is don't put all of your eggs in one basket. If Vega is bi (which I think is most likely), people will complain that this is too much like the Liara/Samara relationships. If Vega is straight, I feel that people will complain that their wishes and hopes have been tossed aside (and Vega will get flamed with hate). If Vega is gay, great! But we still don't have anywhere near enough information to go crazy over his sexuality yet.

Hell yes, I loved him in the beta. He looks just like Ronnie from Jersey Shore which to me is absolutely hilarious, and just makes me like his character more.
Great choice for the voice if it's final as well. I'm really starting to dig Vega.

It's like me (as a straight guy) going into the Tali, Miranda, or Ashley thread, and seeing mostly posts of these three in their underwear, shots of their asses, or users's romantic hopes for these characters, and almost nothing else. No matter how straight I am, it gets old fast and would make those threads hard to approach.

That's not exactly fair. There is A LOT worth discussing about Tali, Miranda, and Ashley. We know about them, their personalities, their backgrounds, their activities during ME and ME 2, etc.

All we know of Vega is that:

1. He beats Batarians with flat screen televisions.

2. He used to look up to Shepard. 

3. He becomes Shepards protoge at some point.

4. He'll fill the role of the new player by asking questions.

We don't know anything about his background other than so mission where something mysteriously changed his life. That's it. We don't know about his parantage, his life before the Alliance, his Alliance service record, his stance of the Reapers, Earth, other characters, aliens, etc. It's hard to discuss Vega in the same manner as those characters.

This is a fair point. I think most of us know that and most of us who play gay manShep are used to disappointment, so we're being careful but having fun with the possibilities while they last.

I suppose this is a fair point. But I just am still having a hard time seeing how

No knowlege of past = some discussion

No knowlege of combat record = some discussion

No knowlege of personal views = some discussion

No knowlege of sexual orientation = loads of discussion.

Well... I guess that's not true. I know how the last part would generate lots of discussion, I just find it difficult to justify.

I think in the end, I'm just tired of there being so little information on the guy, like the rest of you. I want to know more about him, and its so frustrating that even with the new footage shown of him, he's still a complete unknown. A lot of you guys talk about his sexuality often, and as a straight guy I can't really relate to the conversation too much... I didn't mean to offend or anything, I think we're all just too bored. Hopefully December brings us a trailer :-)

Don't worry, I don't think anyone took offense! I'm with right with you about the lack of info. We're so starved for info that seeing him a few seconds on a leaked beta is the best we've gotten since his reveal. It's a little ridiculous when you think about it. Can't he get at least a teaser trailer? D:
