@Saberchic Thanks! I will try to get the beginning up on FF.net as soon as possible, but like I said, I can get pretty judgemental of my own work. I was thinking about going the gender neutral route, but it is SUPER difficult since I tend to get pretty discriptive when it comes to character's appearances. I'll be on the look out for yours though if you do decide to go for it!

Definitely. Not sure I will be able to pull it off. I'll have to keep toying around with it when I get the time.

Don't worry about your work. We all judge or own pieces way more harshly than others will. You seem off to a good start. ^_^

edit: This is the 3rd ToP I've gotten today!

I know what you're referring at, but I still think you captured it very nicely. Especially with the belt included.:)

Okay, this is the rough draft of the first scene, so bare with me here...

“Don’t move too much or you’ll keep losing blood,” said Lieutenant
James Vega, his eyes focused intensely on the doorway, battle rifle at the
ready. At his feet laid Commander John Shepard, compressing the sniper wound on
his shoulder, unable to do much more than take cover behind a low wall. It had
only been minutes since the two Alliance soldiers had been ambushed by a Cerberus
scouting party in the outskirts of the facility, but the commander was already
fighting for his life. James knew that time was of the essence and he prepared
accordingly as he waited for reinforcements; the only hope he had now was to
hold his position until the sandstorm outside died down, allowing the shuttle
carrying General Alenko and Dr. T’Soni to land on the red surface of Mars.

James felt a sudden pang of guilt as his gaze momentarily moved to his critically
wounded commanding officer; the sniper bullet had been meant for James himself
and had Shepard not pushed him out of the way, he would likely be dead.

Come on James, don’t panic now! Vega thought to himself as the rifle shook in his
frightened hands. You can do this! You’ve
done this a million times before! Fehl was one mistake; only one. You’re not a
made soldier, you’re a born soldier. You can do this. Your commanding officer
is depending on you.

“I can do this,” he repeated to himself under his breath, just low enough
so Shepard wouldn’t hear.

At last, the panel by the wall turned green and the doors to the room slid
open; James fired immediately and without mercy at the incoming Cerberus squad.
He could feel the vibration of the gun as he released short bursts of bullets
at the enemies, hitting them with incredible accuracy. Enemy bullets zoomed
back at him, nearly hitting him, and he was forced to take cover next to
Shepard.

A few seconds passed where nothing could be heard and James was sure that the
remaining Cerberus operatives were planning to flank him. He crawled slowly
around to the side of the low wall opposite to where he had just been, trying
to survey the area more thoroughly in order to measure his odds. He peeked out
and had to immediately commend himself. Four; he had taken out four of them.
That left only three and their leader - the Asari - who was nowhere to be seen.
Knowing he only had seconds left before he was surrounded, James crawled back
to his original position next to Shepard and rose from behind cover, ready to
fire several more short bursts at his enemies. He managed to hit two of them,
he was sure of it. Only one remained and then…then everything would be alright.
He rose again and aimed for the last enemy, intent on the kill.

He had the enemy in his sights.

Just one shot
, he told himself. That’s all I need.

Just then doors to the room slid
open once more, and James felt his rifle being snatched away from his hands by
an incredible force. Before he could react, he was wildly tossed across the
room, where he slammed into the back wall with great force. Several shots were
fired and he was lucky enough that each one missed, allowing him precious
seconds he needed to recover and hide behind the pillar closest to him. He held
on to his sides, sure that he had cracked a rib, but still entirely determined
to make it out of the situation alive and with Shepard safe and sound.

He peeked once more, just in time to see a fully armored Asari shoot the last
of the Cerberus operatives.

“Incompetent!” she said furiously as she pulled the trigger of James’ rifle
with no mercy.

Sh*t!
James thought to himself as he
turned his gaze away. It’s that Asari
b*tch!

“…or maybe,” said the Asari as her focus turned to the back of the room, “you’re
just very good at what you do, human!”

“Why are you helping Cerberus?” James asked from the safety of the pillar. “They
hate the Asari! They hate all species that are not human!”

“Cerberus?” the Asari chuckled in amusement. “You think I do this to help
Cerberus? No human! I help whoever pays me the highest price and right now the
Illusive Man is paying me a lot of money to get Shepard. So hand him over and
you won’t have to fight me.”

“I think you should take your own advice,” James replied. “Fight me and you won’t
leave this room alive.”

The Asari laughed:

“You are bold human, but I think you are crossing the line into stupidity. Look
at your options: your commander is severely wounded, you are wounded, and I
have your weapon. What do you intend to do?”

“Kill you,” answered James.

“Enough games!” replied the Asari angrily.

In a matter of seconds she had crossed the room and slammed hard into James,
sending him back several feet once more. He hit the ground, the pain of his
ribs nearly blinding him, and she attacked again. She missed by sheer luck, and
as James rose he ran for the closest cover he could find, hiding himself behind
one of the enormous metal crates near him.

F*CK ME!
James thought venomously. SHE CAN F*CKING CHARGE!

“Are you sure you still want to do this?” the Asari asked mockingly as she
began to fire the assault rifle to scare her target into submission.

In desperation, James did the only thing that came to mind. He ran out of
cover, toward another metal crate that was even further from the Asari than the
one he had first taken refuge behind, forcing her to charge at him once more.
James turned backwards as he went, doing something he knew was entirely insane
but which he hoped would work. In the blink of an eye his fist made contact
with the charging Asari’s head and he felt every bone in his arm shatter into a
thousand pieces. He screamed from the pain as the Asari fell backward and hit
the floor, her neck broken from the force of the impact. Losing his balance,
James leaned against the nearest wall and slid down on it as he began to lose
consciousness.

In his last moments of lucidity he began to crawl toward Shepard’s location,
not wanting to fail in his duty to protect his commanding officer. He dragged
himself for a few feet until he realized he could no longer keep going and
anger swelled inside of him at the thought of failing in his task. It was Fehl
all over again and could not bear it. He laid facedown on the cold floor,
broken and exhausted.

The last thing he heard before blacking out was the sound of approaching footsteps
and a frantic voice asking him if he was alright:

“Lieutenant Vega? Lieutenant Vega, can you hear me? General Alenko! I found
him, he’s injured too! Quickly, we have to get them both to the shuttle!”

Good? Bad? =|

He's a romance.
Can't tell which gender Shepard can romance him, although it's unlikely he's going to be gay only.

 HOLD UP, WAIT A MINUTE

If these files are actually extracted from leaked beta, then I almost certain that Vega will be the S/S option along with with the pilot guy (Steve?). The files in the beta are written from the point of view of male Shepard.

...or am I reading too much into this?
