...fun ... Huh from my perspective from this thread it seems people want him to be stereotypical homosexual, hopefully bioware will give us more vega info so we can get a solid basis on the character

I personally want to see how Vega will be in game, hopefully not a "squishy" like Kaidan.

From what I'm reading, he's far from squishy. In-game he's a pure soldier with focus on survability, which to mean basically spells out "tank." So either way, he's not squishy.

Yes because all homosexuals own a cat. It's actually in the club card.

That's why I said stereotype.... And why I don't want vega to have his personal cat

And I'm sorry butna marine having a cat called sergeant whiskers on the most advanced stealth ship in the galaxy on a mission to save the galaxy does not seem to destroy gay stereotypes

It's not a gay stereotype. When I think of gay stereotypes cats are the last thing on my mind.

It's more of an interplay between "big badass has a soft spot for animals." And why not?

I agree. While it isn't practical to have a cat onboard a stealth frigate, the idea of him liking 'cutesy' things like animals such as cats does add a certain... endearing-ness (I think I made that up, if I did, then I coined it) to an otherwise brutish looking individual.

Debatable , if he was straight that interplay would work but if he is gay it will just reinforce the stereotype . Why not? It's totally unacceptable in any circumstance , he's a marine on a military class vessel on a important mission , why the hell would he take aboard a cat when helping Shepard escape earth or helping Shepard? I really see it as ****** poor fan fiction (sorry guys) and nobody has gave a reasonable answer to the appeal of this cat

It doesn't have a reasonable answer; we're fans of the guy and like silliness. Don't make such a big deal out of it, dude doesn't have to have a cat in your headcanon if you don't want him to.

1. I would say it turns people off vega " let's see what this new character is like... Save kitties ....what:s I thought he was a hardened n7 marine. 2. It seems quite stereotypical if he turns out gay. makes him look feminine" before we escape from the reapers shep on your military vessel on a all important mission I need to bring sgt whiskers.

I don't get the point you're trying to make at all. I know plenty of "stereotypical" straight guys who go gaga and booboo over puppies and kittens. How is that feminine or a homosexual stereotype?

It adds fun depth to a character, be it actually in-game or not. A "hardened N7 marine" doesn't have to be chewing iron and spouting badass one-liners 24/7 to be manly and cool.

No he does not but when your escaping earth from sentient killing machines a marine doesnt take a cat on a military vessel on a mission with the galaxy in the balance is ****ing ridiculous. And sorry the truth is if he is gay and has a cat called ( Christ) sgt whiskers it does reinforce the stereotype of gays being feminine as in most people's view it is girls that go nuts for kittens

Here's a slightly more angst-y dialogue.

Shepard: ... Have any family, James?
Vega: Family? As in -
Shepard: Brothers, sisters, parents.
Vega: ... I did, a younger brother. But, not really. Not anymore.
Shepard: Bad blood?
Vega: Professional disagreements.
Shepard: Are they military?
Vega: No. Hence the disagreement. My family didn't want much to do with me after I joined the Alliance.
Shepard: ... I had a big brother once. A long, long time ago. I lost him, back on Mindoir. Was actually supposed to be his birthday today. Woulda been about forty seven now.
Vega: Sorry to hear that, Shepard.
Shepard: ... Is it wrong that I can't remember their faces anymore? My brother, parents and the Akuze marines, I mean?
Vega: I don't know, Shepard. I'm not a therapist. I'm just paid to shoot or blow the sh!t out of anything I'm ordered to.
Shepard: If I paid you, would you go out and blow up every Reaper you find for me?
Vega: Heh. I'm trying to do that anyway ma'am. No need to pay me.
Shepard: Not all payment is money, James.
Vega: Are you flirting with me Commander?
Shepard: Saw through my cunning plan, did you?
Vega: I'm just getting better at reading you.
Shepard: Am I that hard to understand?
Vega: I'm getting the hang of it, I think.
Shepard: Go on, Get out of here. We're hitting ground in twenty minutes. Tell Cortez to warm up the Shuttle engines.
Vega: Yes ma'am.

Except not. It's a fandom thing, he probably doesn't have a cat in game so take comfort in that. And if you don't like what the fans (who really like this character) have done so far, just ignore this thread? Since I obviously can't convince you to change your strange perception of homosexual people.

Just feel the cat thing should be toned down . Gives a bad impression and I feelcit just reinforces the stereotype

No, being manly doesn't involve being a callous piece of ****.

Maybe in your household you've been raised to regard animals as furniture or food to dispose of, but I assure you there are plenty of men who value animal companionship without it detracting from their mettle.

Your attitude toward animals is exactly what the game is trying to vilify in the form the Reapers regard other races. Particularly when you observe Sovereign's take on the Geth.

Very nice, good job, in fact why haven't you considered writing fanfic?
I have a feeling you will be really good at it.

I don't see animals as furniture but for ****s sake regardless of whether men value animal companionship or not you don't bring a cat on military vessel to do a galaxy hanging in the balance mission. Seriously how difficult is it to grasp . And lucrece calm it I have two dogs and I only stated that a marine shouldn't have a cat on a important mission on a military vessel . Stop being overly dramatic

I do write Fanfiction. My Account on FF.net is Cmdr.J.Shepard. But right now, there's nothing up. I'm currently writing a new/old story entitled 'Duet Effect'.

My workload is slightly retarded at the moment. So on the weekend - IE Tomorrow. I'll start to write it.

Yes.
We understand what you are saying, but the entire idea of the cat in the first place was brought up to mean that James has a softer side than is shown by his muscular physique, we know the chances are slim (and in my opinion I think it would be unrealistic) but we think it would be nice if Vega had a cat, or that something about a cat  he had was at least refrenced by him.

There are better ways of showing a softer side . Having a cat to show a softer side is really bad writing fan fiction or not. I am all for conveying a softer side , aurora writes fan fiction that doesn't make me cringe
