I'm asking the gay question because I've noticed a pattern, and I think I'm not the only one, that Vega's most supportive fans on BSN seem to be gay or female. I'm wondering if it's because there is something that is really physically appealing to both or because, being minorities at BSN like we are, we take a liking to Vega because he's an underdog (coming in to the series in the third game and being almost universally panned at his reveal).

To expand: I just find it interesting that, if Bioware really created Vega as a way to "appeal to the CoD straight gamer," they may have actually been wrong as to who Vega would actually capture as an audience.

Truthfully, a lot of us have been in support of Vega even when he was James Sanders and we had any idea what he looked like. I think some of it was the prospect that "Hey this maybe our s/s male...." and probably built up when resistance showed up to Vega's character - especially when Casey announced s/s for men. And then there was the idea that Vega was replacing characters on the squad - which was inevitable.

So yeah. I think it may have been mostly about the same-sex prospect but since then we've grown to love him for other reasons since I'm totally prepared to love him just as much even if he isn't a same-sex romance. And by love I mean "man-crush" love not thrusting hips love - though thats always an option.

Wow, I'm off for a few days and my inbox was flooded with wonderful posts in this marvelous thread. I'm beyond happy to see the handsome kitty saver in the ME3 trailer at the VGA... it's one hell of a birthday present. Can ME3 come out now??? My Shepard is itching for some action with Vega.

To be frank, I think some people don't care about Vega because he is quite unnecessary.

^ That would explain it, actually. If so, I'm glad they switched her out for James at the last second. (I love Liara, but come on - given the choice, I'd choose footage of James over more of her. Sorry.)
