On the subject of ethnicity...
Truth is, Latino/Latina are bad ethnic descriptors. Latinos born in USA/Canada and the Latin American countries can be from any ethnicity. We have black people in Central America, the Caribbean Islands and parts of South America. We have Latinos of Asian descent mainly in Peru and Brazil. We have people with Native American blood in Mexico, Central America and regions of South America. People with pure white blood are dominant in countries like Uruguay and Argentina (as far as I know), although they're present in all Latin America. So, Latino works better like a geographical and cultural label, not an ethnic one. And as for James... well, he has a Spanish surname and speaks the language. I think he is ethnically what in Spanish speaking countries is called a 'mestizo': a person with a mix of white and Native American bloods. But this is my opinion. I was shocked when, in past days, someone said in a thread that Vega was "another generic caucasican spacemarine dude. This guy seems like Jacob II without even the racial diversity card." For me, James' 'mestizoness' is very clear. But others may think differently. He's Latino, that's a fact. But his being Latino nothing says about his ethnicity.
I agree with almost everything, except for one thing: James mentions at some point that he "grew up in the desert." My guess is he means Arizona, and is probably of Mexican descent. Which is still "mestizo," but at least we can make a guess as to what kind mestizo he probably is.
