On the subject of ethnicity...

Truth is, Latino/Latina are bad ethnic descriptors. Latinos born in USA/Canada and the Latin American countries can be from any ethnicity. We have black people in Central America, the Caribbean Islands and parts of South America. We have Latinos of Asian descent mainly in Peru and Brazil. We have people with Native American blood in Mexico, Central America and regions of South America. People with pure white blood are dominant in countries like Uruguay and Argentina (as far as I know), although they're present in all Latin America. So, Latino works better like a geographical and cultural label, not an ethnic one. And as for James... well, he has a Spanish surname and speaks the language. I think he is ethnically what in Spanish speaking countries is called a 'mestizo': a person with a mix of white and Native American bloods. But this is my opinion. I was shocked when, in past days, someone said in a thread that Vega was "another generic caucasican spacemarine dude. This guy seems like Jacob II without even the racial diversity card." For me, James' 'mestizoness' is very clear. But others may think differently. He's Latino, that's a fact. But his being Latino nothing says about his ethnicity.

I agree with almost everything, except for one thing: James mentions at some point that he "grew up in the desert." My guess is he means Arizona, and is probably of Mexican descent. Which is still "mestizo," but at least we can make a guess as to what kind mestizo he probably is.

What is your favorite voice actor?

Holy crap, so many good ones in #ME3. And they all bring something different. Vega's VA is amazing in the role.

^_^

Maybe we should trick an answer out of him.

"Did he have any problems doing any of the same-sex romance scenes?" :P

MACharlie, you're so dirty!:P:lol:

And thx Chewin for that info. Really made up my day:D

Now that could potentially be a very interesting answer to listen to

Eh. The actual answer wouldn't be as interesting as how he answers it. Actors are trained to handle situations where they might be uncomfortable all the time.

A long time lurker here!
I'm really growing to like this character more and more even though there's not so much released about him.
Wanted to do something to show my suppor for this character so I drew a pic. Not nearly as amazing as the other pics I've seen posted but something.:)

With my previous post I just wanted to point out that it's not right to think that Latino is one unique, homogeneous ethnicity. But I believe that he's probably of Mexican descent, too. Seeing that most Hispanics living in the USA have their roots in Mexico, that he apparently grew up in SW USA (Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada...) and that he's not a black, an Asian or a "generic Caucasian" marine, I think he's mixed (mestizo). Someone recently brought up the fact that he looked darker-skinned in the second pic released. People in the USA seem to have this stereotypical image of Latinos as the brown-skinned Mexican guy who mowns their lawn.As there is no other 'mental model' for how a Latino looks like, I believe BioWare tried to have Vega physically conform to this stereotype. Hence the darker skin in the second pic, and the not-so decisively white facial features, as opposed to Ken's and Jokers, for example.

Latinos do come in a variety of different colors from blonde hair blue eyes to the darkest skin color imaginable if you count Cubans and Puerto Ricans. Its just nice to see at least ONE of the ME characters with an mixed ethnic background (who isn't Black) NOT look like a typical White man or woman. ME1 seemed better at presenting a human melting pot where humanity comes in a variety but ME2 not so much.

^ME1 had two human squadmates, they were both white(with possibly very different roots, but still white), ME2 had three, one was black, one was white and australian and the other(Jack) was the only one that would actually fit in the typical U.S.A. citizen imo. Also, there are the DLC ones, an asian girl and Zaeed, who's probably not american. I think that ME2 was good at "presenting a human melting pot", why don't you?

When I said "North American," I meant more in terms of the default characters being played by Whites in here in US and Canadian media. No, not very well written on my part, but I usually do these forums during periods of insomnia.

Someone who better explains what I meant can be found here:

http://masseffect.li...ml?format=light

You'll need to say you're over 18 to access it (no, it's NOT porn -- don't mean to get your hopes up).

And no, I'm not on a crusade here. I do not believe the world will be saved by a multicolor ME3. It was just an observation. As a Hispanic myself, I'm just happy that an overt Hispanic is going to play a major role. I hope it's done well. I have no problem if the Vega fans go back to making this one of the more light-hearted threads on the BSN.

^I was actually saying that to Chun Hei, but never mind, I'll see this website, wait? No porn?! And as a side note I'm a "latino", I was born and live in Brazil, my skin is really white, so even Miri could be a latina if you are talking about collor.

My goodness, I'm gone for two days, and when I come back, big debates about race and the ratio from white to black skinned people from ME2 to ME1.

Lolz, in times of need, I always consult my spirit guides, Larry and Karl, for now I'll just talk to Larry.

Larry, what do you think of this?

I agree.

Let's all take our pants off and talk about Vega some more....

-snip awesome picture-

Hi! Welcome to the craziness that is the Vega Thread! *Passes around the Vega cookies* ^_^

hehe yes so have we, its amazing with so little information we have about the guy we are getting excited about him based solely upon our silly banters, speculation, and semi-nude pictures of Vega. :P Also the picture looks pretty amazing to me! I really like how you portrayed him with softer features, and a calm facial expression, he seems like he is deep in thought, wonder what he is thinking about? ^_^ Anyways but yeah I like it!

So I just finished up my 5th playthrough: A FemShep Adept named Roxy who will be definitely going for Vega if he is a romance option,(crossing my fingers for a bi Vega) and in particular just finished up Arrival and it got me thinking what do you guys think Vega is doing during the events of ME2? I know right before we meet him he is at Omega bashing people with TV screens and Anderson picks him up, but what was he doing while we were fighting the collectors?

Was he on Fehl during the events of ME2 and maybe around the time we finished fighting the collectors whatever happens on Fehl happens and he decides to bolt and hide on Omega? Just trying to create a visual time line for myself. Do we know how long he was on Omega before Anderson picked him up?

@MACharlie1- btw love your new avatar! ^_^

Also I think this picture is appropriate :P:wub:
