I honestly assumed it was some sort of modified version for human compatible use. But all in all, it's bad to overthink much about the guns. With the whole "we can replicate any technology through omnigel in our ship!", guns become much less special when you think about it. I mean, Shepard and Kasumi steal a pair of Kassa Locusts from Hock, but then you can equip everyone in the squad with it. And better not think much about the ammunition changes from ME1 to ME2 and how well the fit in-universe.
Just shoot them, it's fun. Personally I love the Widow, I love the sound it makes and I don't mind if someone other than Shepard uses it. Though I have to confess, there's something... special about only he and Legion being able to use it.
Resistance is Futile. Support James Vega in Mass Effect 3 and he'll save kitties.

I have seen a bit of the leak, excluding Fehl and a few other conversations that I purposely skipped over but I am really looking forward to meeting Vega based off the leak! I think he will be a really great character and the answer to all those people out there that have been dying for a human bro character that did not find it with either Kaidan or Jacob or killed Kaidan because they hooked up with Ashley, etc.
Besides that, I like that he shows his cultural side and that he is a pretty laid back easy going guy. He answers a lot of issues that a lot of people had with old characters (which is a plus side for a character starting in the 3rd game since the developers now have a sense of what works & what doesn't), and he is a fun and witty guy to hang around. What else could I possibly want? *besides him being open to both MaleShep and FemShep of course, I really want him to be open to all* If most of the dialogue stays in the final version I know I will like him, he has almost everything I wanted in a character so heck yes I am excited for him! <3

I might be out of line on the forums here, but am I the ONLY person on the face of the earth (well, I know my friends share this view, actually) who thinks that Vega looks like such an absolute tool? I mean...from what I know of his back story, he's not going to be in my squad very often...you know, kinda like how Jack was in my squad for her loyalty mission. And that's it.
