Well, I'll use Vega a lot for my 1st playthrough even though my canon Shep is Soldier.

I'm starting with the Engineer, so Vega has to take a lot of hits, while I spam my turrets

I always used Garrus throughout Mass Effect 2 even though my Shepard was an infiltrator, just because he got so many great lines. And when Legion came along it was like 'what are these biotics you speak of?'

I can see the same thing happening in Mass Effect 3 with James, Ashley and my Soldier Shepard. I'm terrible at picking squads...

Well I've never really cared what class people are. Though that depends on what difficulty you're playing.

@Chewin- On the higher difficulties I would worry about what class I brought with me but on casual or normal it doesn't really matter for the most part. I usually bring whoever I feel like at that particular moment. I don't usually have a favorite squad I like to keep it random. Though I know I will probably end up bringing Kaidan, Garrus, and Vega around a lot.

Depends on squad interaction, I think. If there would be awesome combos performed by squad of one class (Warp Bombs are the easiest example - you need two biotics or Adept Shep for it) or chars of same class would boost each other, then specialized class will be better.
