Kahlee probably was the reason. Or they changed his backstory so they have no relation or they forgot that she existed when they created him.

I actually wonder if all this dislike for Vega is similar to when a new kid comes to school. Everyone feels compelled to pick on him because he's new and different. Everyone wants to stick with their old friends, who are cooler and more familiar, than bother to get to let someone new in.

Also, I think a lot of people are burned out on new characters. They are so angry certain characters didn't return to the squad in ME2, that they reject anyone new immediately now.

Possibly. Vega being a Squadmember, the others will have less screen time. Plus, they think he'll be just a "noob-helper" that will be repeating things like "What's a biotic?" "What's a reaper?" "What's a termal clip?" etc etc. Basides, most of people have a "dream squad" that Vega doesn't make part of.

Sorry can't support this character I see no real reason for him to be even in the game. If your a new player comeing to ME start with ME1 we don't need a character catered to people who doesn't even want to try the other games at all. Not to mention the most generic COD like character ME has ever seen

All men must look like abercrombie models and all women must look like Victoria's Secret models. Any deviation is ugly and shameful and the person not fitting these standards should do everything possible to change even if it kills them.

Anyway out of 17 squadmates from previous 2 games, only 1 is 100% in ME3 and 50% for Kaidan and Ashley.
Few new squadmates are needed.

Also old players can play role of mentor again.
Remember Garrus in ME1?

Not all old players might want to and you can bet his annoying questions and the answers to them won't be skippable for at least the first act of the game, even on replays. (since most people only play the game once anyway).

For example when you're fleeing Earth after the Reapers disturb your trial he might team up with you and Anderson and then promptly ask Anderson, in an unskippable cutscene of course, "what's a Reaper?" forcing us to sit through a couple of minutes of back and forth between him and Anderson, rinse and repeat for subsequent questions for at least the entire first part of the game.

Especially since Earth is invaded and we don't know much either what exactly are Reapers.

Except that doesn't happen and we know it doesn't happen because there's video of that and Vega is already on the Normandy when Shepard gets to it.
So no.

I like James Vega.

Theres just something compelling about him. No idea what though.

Dont see him being the SS option tho. I think thats going to be Kaidan. LOL.
