Heh, Nevermind, SomethingSome.
In any case, Jim, I do agree that Bioware is producing this to a large audience and not just me...but there's a lot of people that simply don't like Vega as he is right now. A staggering amount of people are pouring a senseless amount of vitriol at him, some of them going so far as hoping that the game will let them kill him. Maybe Bioware should take that into account and try again? Especially if it's the *majority* of the audience?
I'll work my way backwards.
1: The forums are not an indicator of the majority of the audience. Looking at the forums one would assume a large majority of players play as female shepard.
Only 18% of ME2 players played as femshep.
2: The amount of vitriol is indeed senseless. On that I whole heartedly agree.
3: "as he is right now" is nothing though. Honestly. He's a pair of pictures and a blurb that may or may not even be accurate by time the game comes out.
Worse then that, the most outspoken Vega haters completely ignore half of the very same blurb where it describes him as a seasoned solider. One literally told me that bit would end up being the
opposite of what we get, but the other line in the blurb about new players was gospel truth all the way to the game going gold.
It's silly to me. We have absolutely no information about his character and yet, as you said, people are pouring a senesless amount of vitriol at what is essentially... nothing.
I think it boils down to potential and ones level of pessimism. Obviously the point about there being so little information also applies to those of us who support him. Neither side can claim any more knowledge than the other, that's absurd.
I think it all has to do with potential. We see in Vega the potential to make a good character. We see a solider who can potentially bring a fresh perspective to the storyline and add yet another dimension. Some of us see a potential new LI, particularly one with a completely clean slate where we never have to hear anyone argue about retconning him to make him bisexual.
Other people, obviously, see different potential. They see the potential for a cousin oliver who comes in, throws around one liners, and generally gets on everyone's nerves.
Given what we know (again, next to nothing) there's really no solid argument that shows one side having more potential than the other.
At the end of the day I'd just rather be optimistic about him than not.
