@FoxHound109   And the fact that he probably likes tattoos

Those could have a good story behind them though! There was a whole dialogue tree talking about Jack's tattoos and it was pretty interesting!

Anyway, some of us think Vega is lickable just the way he is right now.

Posted Image  Certainly! My Shep'll be all over Vega if he's an option.

@Hellbound555
We know that he's an experienced soldier who's done his tour of duty but is inexperienced in galactic politics and that he, supposedly, has a personality different from any we've previously seen in ME.

I hope he's kind of a goofball. There aren't any really goofy characters in the story. I can just picture him behind cover making so hilariously funny comment like sarcastaHawke used to: "OH LOOK! We're being attacked again! WHAT A SURPRISE!"

Going by your analogy, I may not have a say on how the finished product that the artist is trying to sell me should look, but i can say "No" when he asks me "Do you like it?"

And you've done just that. Why drag it out and try to argue that your impression of the piece is somehow more or less accurate than anyone elses. And sticking with your piece of art analogy, it was yours not mine, why would you go to a party being held specifically to support that piece just to tell the people there you don't like it? Doesn't that strike you as oddly wasted effort?

Furthermore, freelance artists that are contracted DO have to deal with feedback from their customers when they make a product, and whether or not they get paid depends on how well they satisfied their customer's demands.

Very true. Those pieces are called commisions.
You never contracted Bioware to build ME3 to your specifications though. So that half of the analogy is completely irrelivant. They are creating a work to be mass produced and sold to a large audience, not tailored to your personal tastes.

Nobody said you had to like Vega, I just don't comprehend why you would spend time in the Vega support thread just to say you don't like him. There are more than enough Vega-hate threads for that sort of thing.

Oh... Sarcastic options how I miss thee!
As long as he's not too much of a goofball, there are times when it is -not- alright to tell jokes Vega.
What I'd really like to know is his voice actor, sometimes a voice actor can sell a character to me even before I know how he is, as shallow as that may be. Like with Fenris, if he didn't have that amazing voice his personality would grate on me like jabbed rocks.

@Jimmy Fury So we can change his mind about James? :wizard:

EA.

To be fair though, EA has been pretty spectacular this generation.

Now back to more important matters: I want my mShep to make babies with sexy, sexy Vega.

Maker, please don't say that. I have a friend who is a firm "supporter" of mpreg and that gave me a not all that good mental image...

But yes! James Vega for bi LI! With a southern (is that what you call it?) accent for some reason I don't really understand myself.

Heh, Nevermind, SomethingSome.

In any case, Jim, I do agree that Bioware is producing this to a large audience and not just me...but there's a lot of people that simply don't like Vega as he is right now. A staggering amount of people are pouring a senseless amount of vitriol at him, some of them going so far as hoping that the game will let them kill him. Maybe Bioware should take that into account and try again? Especially if it's the *majority* of the audience?

I get that doing so would require time and money, and so I personally don't have much hope that they'll bother.

...I can still **** about it, though. God bless the internet!

But there's no need to try again, yet.
We've only seen his fisical aspect and not the way his looks relate to his personality and while, yes, it is possible to guess some things from the way he looks these images doesn't give us much to work with in the guessing department.
So, in my personal opinion, those people that are spouting vitriol at him, like you've said, should just calm down and wait.

And I hope that the people complaining about Vega's looks and about how he looks like a stereotypical muscle head are drop dead gorgeous and their looks reflect perfectly their personalities, specially when wearing military uniform or amour.

Let me correct that: I want my mShep to TRY and make babies with Vega. Repeatedly...and the more he fails at it, the more he should try. ;]

Oh for pete's sake.

We know nothing about Vega's personality. Unless you have an early copy of ME3 STFU about how "dumb" or "jock" he is.

I don't. It wasn't a comment about the Dragon Age team, it was a comment about the fan reactions to their decision making process in the game. There's a key difference.

I'll retract that, my mistake.  Although...

That's insulting.  Normal people arn't ugly.
There is no evidence that he might have role of the student, you are just hoping.

:innocent:That's insulting, one of my oldest and best of friends is far uglier than Vega, doesn't mean I like him any less.

Not everyone, a lot of people are say that he's dumb because of his looks. Which is stereotyping and stereotyping is bad. *nods*

Ha, ha! It depends though! I know I'm the gross minority here, but I really, REALLY enjoyed Dragon Age II.

I guess that's why I'm annoyed at the whole "Vega looks dumb thing." You're going to laugh at me, but it took about five minutes from Vega's second pic releasing before about fifteen people told me I looked almost exactly like him (or vice versa since I've existed since 1986). And I've dealt with that kind prejudice too, so I gues I take it a little too personal because I think: "I can't count the number of people who immediately assume I'm some sort of jock that's dumber than brick." I shouldn't care, but it hits a little too close to home. D:

On the other hand though, I can understand the concern because some people see him and think: "Call of Duty!" and that probably puts many off who think Call of Duty is the bane of the gaming industry's existence.

But ultimately, I just think Bioware is winding us up. If their writing team pulls through, they'll probably purposefully use Vega's looks to break stereotypes like they did with Miranda. I'm not saying it's guaranteed, but I do hope it happens.

I'll work my way backwards.
1: The forums are not an indicator of the majority of the audience. Looking at the forums one would assume a large majority of players play as female shepard.
Only 18% of ME2 players played as femshep.
2: The amount of vitriol is indeed senseless. On that I whole heartedly agree.
3: "as he is right now" is nothing though. Honestly. He's a pair of pictures and a blurb that may or may not even be accurate by time the game comes out.
Worse then that, the most outspoken Vega haters completely ignore half of the very same blurb where it describes him as a seasoned solider. One literally told me that bit would end up being the opposite of what we get, but the other line in the blurb about new players was gospel truth all the way to the game going gold.
It's silly to me. We have absolutely no information about his character and yet, as you said, people are pouring a senesless amount of vitriol at what is essentially... nothing.

I think it boils down to potential and ones level of pessimism. Obviously the point about there being so little information also applies to those of us who support him. Neither side can claim any more knowledge than the other, that's absurd.
I think it all has to do with potential. We see in Vega the potential to make a good character. We see a solider who can potentially bring a fresh perspective to the storyline and add yet another dimension. Some of us see a potential new LI, particularly one with a completely clean slate where we never have to hear anyone argue about retconning him to make him bisexual.
Other people, obviously, see different potential. They see the potential for a cousin oliver who comes in, throws around one liners, and generally gets on everyone's nerves.
Given what we know (again, next to nothing) there's really no solid argument that shows one side having more potential than the other.
At the end of the day I'd just rather be optimistic about him than not.
