I didn't see a topic for this so I thought that I should start one.

I've been liking what i'm seeing. The reapers attacking earth? Perfect. The scene with the child? Excellent. Combat? Looks better than ever.

Sure there's some annoyances like the rail shooting but if they kept it as a minimum, I won't mind some different gameplay.

However, as I watched all this firece action and giant set-piece, I grew concerned as I began to watch other videos like MW3's and BF3's gameplay with each section only being a brief respite for a bigger set piece.

Is Bioware going full out with a high-packed intense action game with customizable guns and armor with little to no exploration and sidequests? Will the world be limited and the plot linear, dependent only the choices we made in the previous games? Would they justify this by saying that the Reaper threat to limit the exploration and funnel the players into a linear storyline with some branching caused by the choices of the previous games?

I hope not.

Basically, will ME3 as a standalone title, have C&C or will most of the game be Shepard facing the consequences of his past decisions?

Bioware are always talking about how ME3 is a good entry point to the series show it should be able to hold up without having played the previous games

Calm down... I'm just thinking of worst case scenarios here.

By all means, assuage my fears. ^_^

They have actually stated that exploration and sidequests will be MORE emphasized and that not completing at least some will impact the final outcome of the fight against the reapers. I guess that means that technically it's just a REALLY heavily nonlinear main quest line, but if you wanna kill batarian slavers or disarm 20 year old nukes while the reapers are invading I think you're gonna be disappointed.

I could do with less sidequests. Less "Disable rogue VI", "Deliver the trinket to the asari" and all that jive. Sidequests with flair only, I say.

And could someone please define "exploration" for me? Because I see a lot of people clamoring for exploration, but I don't quite understand what it is exactly.

This is a truly horrible and useless topic. If there are no or very little side quests then raging fanboys are gonna rage hard so Bioware and EA would be scared of them so there will be lots of sidequests.

If they must have sidequests again I hope they are related to the main plot. Call me too much of a role-player but I had a seriously hard time justifying putting The Race Against Time on the backburner in order to help a prostitute achieve reconciliation with a client.

Just a few vids and we are jumping to conclusions to soon, it's nearly a year until the release, they wont' show us everything on day 1. Plus I think that for this premiere the guys at Bioware have chosen the most impactant sequences, the more dense information will be released in months to come.

This! I want sidequests to be at least somewhat related to the main story.

Based on Mass Effect 2, I anticipate it will involve a lot of 'side' missions (like 'Recruit the Krogan to fight against the Reapers') that are really important to the main plot, should you complete them, but if you don't want to you can zip straight to the end.

And like Mass Effect 2, I anticipate that zipping straight to the end and avoiding all the 'side' missions will result in you getting you and your squad's butt kicked.

I don't know, but I suspect there will be less of that in ME3 given the situation.

Hopefully they'll do another trilogy after ME3 that centers around this sort of gameplay, it would be great fun IMO.

I'm beginning to think ME3 will follow ME2's model somewhat....if you complete the campaign, the Reapers die and you save Earth and the rest of the galaxy.  The variable will be what the cost is to you and your team, which will be related to side quests, upgrades, and the like.

I hope they don't limit us in exploration like that saying the reapers are blocking you from randomly exploring uncharted worlds and so you must stay on the main arch course unless we deem you are allowed to do a help quest.

I'd hate that. I didn't like the bunny hopper's version of exploration that was just as confining as ME2's corridor shoot outs. Even OL was confined but gave the illusion of exploration they gave 5 or so paths I could take but they were still paths I couldn't make the thing go down into the valley there or way up into the mountains and do what I wanted and come back around to the base say from a new angle like I decide to approach it from the valley zone and creep up the mountain and surprise them.

ME really stood out with the 100% exploration of the uncharted worlds. We could go into the razor cliffs or down into very deep craters or run through the valleys I really enjoyed that even if there was no gain for my effort it was the fun of trying to get to the point on the scanner so I would decide I'll go up that tall mountain and see if I can get there alive vs going around it using the plains. I hope the mako comes back and uncharted worlds too with a variety of settings some Virmire paradise like and others barren and near desserts like we got in ME.

I'll be very upset if the exploration doesn't come back in a 100% explorable environment form with my mako.

I agree. Having the Reapers block access to uncharted worlds is silly. What they should do is just drop them from the game altogether, since Shepard's got more important things to do than run around on uncharted worlds.

However, I'm pretty sure I won't get my way on this one.

Please, goodness no. I really don't want to have to laboriously meander around poorly designed height-maps with generic textures in a moon-buggy with jello suspension. Finishing those stupid collection quests was the biggest waste of time of any game I've ever played.

I agree 100%, this would be incrediblely great to have back. Just because there's a galactic war going on doesn't mean that there isn't time for exploration of barren (if possible lush) alien worlds. Who knows, one might discover a potent weapon on one of your treks. Richer RPG features, greater environment and areas, great combat, the story is bound to be great, you're back in the Alliance, and just about everything seems solid. The only thing which hasn't been talked about is the exploration.

For the XP. The same reason Conrad looks in crates and asks strangers if they have a task he can help them with.

I love ME2 for cutting away some of the silliness. I hope they go further with ME3.

A Bioware game without sidequests? Even EA wouldn't be that stupid, they'd lose their entire fanbase.
