So I recently watched Lost in Space again and I noticed a really cool way to include helmets without one never seeing Shepards face when in dialogue. It starts at 0:45. Wouldn't it be really cool if Shepard would get that kind of animation when he is in combat mode (meaning when he has drawn his weapon). The helemt would disappear (ideally with animation) when he sheathes his weapon again. With this feature every dialogue could be with Shepards face and you even could tweak the helmets looks and stats.

Yes. I think that, while ME2 has two categories of clothing, ME3 should have three. ME2 only has casual (on-board) clothing and equipment, whereas I think ME3 should distinguish between Shepard on-board the Normandy, in civilized areas, and in Combat.
So if I equip a helmet, it should come on when I go into a battle zone, but I shouldn't be drinking a beer through my sealed helmet.

Yes and I've been saying this on the boards for months now, I want the helmets and breathers to be used realistically and that goes not just for Shep but for the whole squad.

Seconded, when I’ve been playing ME2 I’ve envisioned my Shepard’s helmets the same way. Especially the scene when you first encounter Tali, if you’re wearing an enclosed helmet, i.e. Blood Dragon Armor, Deathmask etc., how would she recognize you with your helmet? Just adding a quick, dramatic cut-scene where you take off your helmet, would’ve added another degree of immersion to the overall story.
