Crash when Loading Saved Game

My game worked fine the other day. I went to play today and AVG kept saying that NxCharacter.dll was a virus, so I'd get 'library load failure' for NxCharacter.dll after hitting play. I downloaded the file and moved it to the right folder, after which everything seemed to work fine - until I actually clicked 'resume,' at which point the game would just crash to desktop. I tried going through 'load game' instead but the same thing happened.

I don't want to reinstall if I don't have to. Any help would be appreciated!

It's not a new situation. Read a few of today's threads, your answers are there.

I found info on the NxCharacter ordeal, but given that I resolved that issue, I'm looking to figure out why it's crashing - and I was unable to locate any threads that seemed to describe the same issue. Perhaps you could point me to one? I must just be awful at searching through.

1. Ignore the forum's own bad excuse for a search.

2. Use either Google or Yahoo, but with redirection. Add this to the criteria:

sit:social.bioware.com

If nothing in the current pair of AV threads covers it, start from the beginning, which is Raen's pinned Sticky that starts as "Read First".

Unfortunately, the only mention of a crash while loading a game did not result in a fix, and otherwise I was just reading through things I already read through before posting.

I'll guess just reinstall.

I did notice that you don't seem to like new threads from 'noobs,' so I apologize for the bother :( Never had an issue with the game, and my only experience with tech support forums is from Diablo II back in the day.

You are finding an inference somewhere that doesn't exist.  I almost never use either the new or old versions of Newbie nor "Noob" anywhere.  However, I admit to some sense of impatience with intentional blindness and ignorance for its own sake.  There have been two or three generations now of "gimme" people, unwilling to fend for themselves.  Those, you can keep.  All of 'em.

Ah, well I was referring to this post -> social.bioware.com/forum/Dragon-Age-Origins/Dragon-Age-Origins-PC-Technical-Support/Unanswerable-questions----incomplete-wo-data---2836375-1.html.

Regardless, I apologize if I've come off as 'gimme.' I was just looking for help from people more experienced than myself after being unable to find a fix elsewhere.  I am familiar with the nuisance on other forums, though - I understand! Haha.

My boyfriend's a CS major, I'll just bug him in the future.

Folks are more than willing to help. It just makes it easier to help you if you try the fixes that are listed first and give complete information with which to help you. "Noobs" are definitely welcome.

Understood! But I looked for fixes, did not find any that were applicable to my problem, and was then told to go look for fixes. Albeit the first time around I looked for issues relating to crashes, not the virus issue, since I didn't believe it was related.

What I've deduced now is that those of us who deleted the file through our anti viruses, then downloaded it online and put it in the folder are the ones with crashing issues. I wish I'd seen that thread before coming up with my own solution first :/

Some of us still drop in and will help when we can.  Many more former regular residents are more involved with other activities in the warm weather outdoors.

I'd retained an impression that all of the bumped reminder posts from last year were after I decided against the usage of that term now having become a somewhat negative one, or had been edited ("noob").  Thanks for reminding me to be more thorough.  I've made a fresh pass looking for potentially off-putting choices of terms there.
