Poor fan service at E3 (Edit: Foot in mouth! Thank you Bioware, for lifting my RPG concerns)

Agreed. Same two levels being played on ridiculously low difficulty setting with nothing but pew-pew. I hope that better stuff is on the way.

Honestly, what does anyone expect from an E3 presentation? All Molyneux did with the new Fable demo is show how Kinect lets you drive a wagon by shaking the reins.

Meh. Its E3.

Went the stuff came out for ME2 at E3 - I was like, yeah its ok, but meh. When the trailer came out AFTER E3 I was much more content and happy. I'm like that with most things out of E3.

E3 is where publishers get the drooling media fired up with attractive women in tight / skimpy clothes and lots of violence and some awesome new fad / feature.
BioWare knows what the crowd wants, and they give it to them. After E3 we'll start seeing the rest of the dish.

3. Not even an image, tease, or example of any of the "deep customization" improvements.  I mean, wasn't that the MAIN complaint of ME2?  I loved the game, but when one single complaint emerges in such a stand out way, to me it makes sense to address the fix as soon as possible.  Could they not have showed us even ONE weapon mod?  Not even ONE new example of an evolved talent/skill?  Nothing?  Really????
4. Conversation non-existent.  Showing Shepard choose between comforting a small child or dismissing him does not illustrate Mass Effect's strength of the dialogue wheel.  What about an actual, branching conversation?

Very good thread OP, I especially agree on this points. Despite the spectacular bits of action they focused on, they've really left out a great part from the ME universe. Something that should also give some hope to all the guys complaining about not enough RPG elements and what not. Their trolling all over the internets is what is becoming unbearable to me haha.

You know ME3 is not coming out till next year right? What sense would it make if they showed every aspect of the game 10 months before the release.

To all those who are upset because they didn't see their favorite character or wanted more RPG elements shown just remember that ME3 is a long way from being in your hands. Bioware just smothered us with new ME3 footage and people still want more *sigh*.

it seems that some are ungrateful.

I was just about to say this. It's as if EA had threatened to fire them, if they don't point out at every possible occasion that ME1 and ME2 are basically irelevant and everyone should wait until ME3 comes out and start thier ME carrier there.
WTF is up with that? It's almost like they don't want to sell their previous and current ME games. I'm kinda surprised at this, since one of the biggest features in ME is importing your saves from previous game(s).

Firstly, they couldn't show the dialogue because most of it hasn't been recorded yet.

Secondly, they have a limited amount of time. The demos aren't for the fanbases, they're for the publishing/hardware companies to show off to the gaming press why they should care about their games. While the fans seem to care a lot about the RPG stuff, most of the gaming press there doesn't. They just need you to sum up as quickly as possible why they should care about your game, hence the focus on action and scale.

E3 has never been for the fans, its for Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo and the big publishing companies to show off their games.

This disturbs me, because the fans are the ones who are paying for the game.  Who are they showing their games off TO, exactly, if not to the fans?  The press?  Isn't that masturbatory without fans?

Showing a sequel (or hell, a third game in a trilogy) at E3 is usually more about showing off improvements. And they did that with the combat and the scope and the levels. Just not with the RPG elements...

Which, like they did with ME2's E3 showing, sucked. After all the stuff said about "refining" the RPG elements and sugar-coating or hiding the removal of an active inventory, squad armor customization, deep skill trees and vehicles, I don't see it as a smart marketing move on their part to once again avoid talking about it.

The demos blew me away, but as a loyal fan, it'll take more than distractions of the eye to convince me that Bioware's actually paying attention to what RPG proponents are telling them.

The thing is they have to sell this game. Not everyone that bought ME2 will buy ME3, so they have to make up for that and then some to justify to EA why they deserve some of their time, budget and marketing.

Also, why would anyone begrudge Bioware getting more fans? As fans we should support the company and so we should wish them as wide a success as possible. Its not at the expense of the current fans - we've already enjoyed two great games with the promise of one more that'll wrap up everything we've done.

They could've at least picked another class and scenario for the last demo.

I agree OP. I'm disappointed.

You say poor fan service at E3? Maybe that's because they take the fans for granted and simply do't give a **** about them. No, now they're aiming for the prize... the Call of Duty crowd.

Lots of Boom Boom in what they showed... and a super AWESOME laser knife. Yeah, Awesome like in Awesome Button.

Not much else.

Still missing the one thing that (afaik) makes the CoD or MoH people happy, multiplayer. (hell i'd like having some coop fighitng or team deathmatch stuff in the me universe, although then thered be a lot of crying out about imbalance of certain classes <<.)

Unfortunately that isn't the main point of E3, and hasn't been for many years. Its just the big companies trying to one-up each other. Obviously the fans will watch so the demos have to appeal to them, but its mainly for the companies to show off to each other and get the most attention from the press. Hence why Bioware had to go for something loud and action-based. I really liked the Earth demo though - I think that was aimed a bit more at the fans because it is being shown off after the conferences.

All the stuff for the fans will be during the next week or so. The first day of E3 is just an ego fest for publishers and hardware companies. Doesn't mean it isn't worth watching, its just that the first day isn't really for just the fans.

Maybe they would actually "service" you guys if you stopped complaining about every little thing they did.
Show combat-oh thats lame combat
Show RPG-oh thats not enough elements
Show story-oh thats a spoiler

You wonder why guys. They only had their interviews so far, in an hour and a half theyll do a behind the scenes feature

Exactly

I am a big fan of this franchise, and i am really happy for what Bioware its been showing at E3 so far.The combat looks AMAZING,the graphics are awesome. Its certain that ME3 will be incredible.

Unfortunately there are these fans that never are happy enough with the game,no matter what Bioware show, will be always some fan unhappy.

The release is in 2012,Bioware still have plenty of time to show the game,RPGs elements and everthing, just dont be paranoid.

I agree. However i also think this is similar to what happened with the other 2 games...early marketing always showed the action. I even think that some of the advertising for those games was misleading...take the "Fight for the Lost" trailer (w/ interviews for Grunt, Miranda, Jack and Thane) for ME2. Those characters and their motivations were totally simplified and misrepresented for the sake of making the game appear "badass" when (although it WAS badass) it was much deeper than the trailer let on.

At least I'm hoping that's how it really is, and they don't turn their backs on their loyal fanbase like Bethesda Softworks did....*sigh*

Charming.

Seems pretty accurate though. Just wait, the rest of the week is for the fans, its only the first day that is about the egos.

Well yes, so far nothing distinguishes ME3 from another generic TPS in the eyes of a newcomer completely oblvious to the series.

Moar dialogues and skills/classes please!

Pretty much this. Hell even the lady on the gametrailers thing went around asking which company "won" E3.

I am a happy fan, I was happy with Mass Effect 2 and I'm sure I will be happy with Mass Effect 3, even if they don't include some stuff that I want.  And I really like the intense, large-scale combat ideas they are showing for ME3.  That's not what this is about.  This is about E3 being poorly handled.
