Poor fan service at E3 (Edit: Foot in mouth! Thank you Bioware, for lifting my RPG concerns)

The only knock I will give them so far is there is next to nothing on the promised RPG additions and they need to show a few of those off to help appease the fans they've been teasing for months haha

Let's consider something though - these boards have been in an uproar about "Avoid spoilers! Don't show major scenes! Don't leak anything!" and if you watch Casey and the demos, they are basically holding to that. They're being incredibly careful about only showing select segments w/o a ton of conversations or story points combined with the action. I mean Casey dodged so many questions in the interview because if he answered them truthfully you'd see 4-5 threads with "OMG TOO MANY SPOILERS!" pop up after.
You can show skilltrees, weapon modifications, classes in action and dialogues (well mostly meaningless banter) without being spoilerific.

I agree 100% with the buzzwords Bioware needs to stop using so much especially the Bioware founders ,it's just becoming silly now.
Ray Muzyka annoys me to no end, I just can't listen to him say "progression, exploration, customization, combat" anymore, much less anything else.

Unfortunately that isn't the main point of E3, and hasn't been for many years. Its just the big companies trying to one-up each other. Obviously the fans will watch so the demos have to appeal to them, but its mainly for the companies to show off to each other and get the most attention from the press. Hence why Bioware had to go for something loud and action-based. I really liked the Earth demo though - I think that was aimed a bit more at the fans because it is being shown off after the conferences.
All the stuff for the fans will be during the next week or so. The first day of E3 is just an ego fest for publishers and hardware companies. Doesn't mean it isn't worth watching, its just that the first day isn't really for just the fans.
Pretty much this. Hell even the lady on the gametrailers thing went around asking which company "won" E3.
This sums it up rather well actually - the first day is all about which company 'wins'.
OT - I'm really pleased with what we've been shown over the last 24 hours. The graphics look great, the shooting aspect looks really good, the shot of Reapers landing on Earth was fantastic. I'll save judgement on 'fan service' until E3 is actually over.

Maybe they would actually "service" you guys if you stopped complaining about every little thing they did.
Show combat-oh thats lame combat
Show RPG-oh thats not enough elements
Show story-oh thats a spoiler
You wonder why guys. They only had their interviews so far, in an hour and a half theyll do a behind the scenes feature

I think those were Anderson and Ashley. Which would be very, very weak, considering that everyone already knew about them and how they looked.Sphynx118 wrote...
It seems like it. We got 2 and a half 5 min demos. Unless they will show the 2 squadmates that were promised?
Except the monkeys on the E3 floor.

Um no? We have had 4 demos and 2 of those were the exact same thing played all over again.crackseed wrote...
Khay, I know - and that's what I said in the bottom of my post. That's the only area I do see them failing currently with E3. We still have 1 demo and another panel or two to go, so there's still some hope

Also, I won't complain about RPG elements shown not being enough. I just want ONE example of the "deeper customization" they have been talking about ever since the main criticism from ME2 emerged as, "not enough customization options." Just ONE example is not asking for too much as a consumer.

They could've at least showed us something that they didn't show the game magazines.
Well, they showed us plenty of combat stuff and new missions, which was great! (As I have said many times). I just want them to briefly address the main criticism of ME2. I think that's what most of the established fanbase wants. We know that the final battle is gonna be awesome as hell, that's not what we were concerned about.

E3 isn't about fan service. It's about showing off how bad ass your game is to everyone.
Yeah, when no one knows about it! They already have a HUGE established fan base! What are they thinking?
They want new fans?

Throwing out a fair criticism of a developer's marketing strategy isn't complaining, and it is certainly fair to criticize the failure to yet address the almost unanimous, single criticism of ME2: "Needs more customization options". I've repeatedly praised ME1 and ME2 over any other game series, so don't brush me off as one of those trolls.

Don't let anything at E3 become the be all and end all of what the game, or any game, will end up like.
I remember when E3 had journalists who knew the games they were viewing inside out and reported facts and confirmed info. These days most 'journos' are just glorified gamers.
Now if you'll excuse me I need to go get my cane and yell at some kids on my lawn.

Haha I feel everything you are saying. This is the first E3 I have followed in a while, and against my better judgment. The only reason I even paid attention at all was because I couldn't stay away from the Shep.
