Poor fan service at E3 (Edit: Foot in mouth! Thank you Bioware, for lifting my RPG concerns)

E3 is about presenting any game w/ even the hint of any action as a Michael Bay film.

I am left to wonder how a new Myst game would be presented...

The sense of undeserved entitlement among a great deal of Mass Effect fans is staggering.

Sphynx, we've only see 3 out of 4 demos so far. We're missing one still :)

I thought IGN had that.

I would have been fine if 2 or 3 of the demos were combat stuff, but I really wish they showed more. It just seems like a run-of-the-mill shooter at this point. But it is E3, so I wouldn't expect otherwise.

Nope, just a repeat of Earth + the Mordin bit we saw before.

I agree except for the dialog, it's E3.

You should see the Bungie fanbase. They're disgraceful.

If there is something Bioware never done right it's marketing

The "Fight For The Lost" trailers were some of the worst I have ever seen and ME 2 is my favourite game of all time.

 Compelling story and characters shouldn't be thrown by the wayside when it's partially what's setting you apart. I still kinda was hoping for at least one character reveal.

you know I am starting to understand what a lose lose situation Bioware are actually in.  If they say or show too much you get a legion of fans screaming "oh for gods sake stop with the spoilers".  If they don't say or show enough it is "oh for gods sake this is poor fan service".

I have personally enjoyed everything we have seen so far, sure I have one or two minor criticisms that aren't that important and naturally I would love to see more.  However I appreciate we still have 10 months to go till we actually get the game.

It isn't like the minute E3 is over that is it we are not going to hear or see anything about Mass Effect 3 again until it is launched.

They could have cut to a video of a goat grazing in an open field for half an hour and everyone complaining on here would still be buying the game.  I feel sorry for Bioware for the the loose-loose situation they find themselves in.

Do you guys really want to get started on how bad Bioware's marketing is? Remember the DA:O trailers?

Maybe they would actually "service" you guys if you stopped complaining about every little thing they did.
Show combat-oh thats lame combat
Show RPG-oh thats not enough elements
Show story-oh thats a spoiler

You wonder why guys. They only had their interviews so far, in an hour and a half theyll do a behind the scenes feature

For BioWare, bad marketing=good game on the way.  They know the game will be awesome and word of mouth will prevail in the end anyway.  Good marketing means they know they have a turd and they want to sell it quick before anyone notices how bad it is (DA2 anyone).  If BioWare ups their marketing on this game it would actually make me reconsider buying it (at least until I see some reviews from reviewers I trust).

Did anyone see the joke that just occurred on "The Pulse"? That's exactly what I'm talking about.

E3 for Mass Effect 2 didn't provide much of that stuff at all. They mostly talked about the Collectors, the attack on the Normandy, the fact that you weren't dead, and that everyone could potentially die along with combat advances. This time we already know about who the enemy is and what the stakes are, so all that was left to tell were combat advancements. I have to admit, I'm not liking this marketing push as much as I liked the one for ME2, but they aren't doing anything drastically different from before.

I haven't read what everybody has said, but I just want to add that it's still 8 months until the game gets released, so be patient and they will give us more information when we get closer to March.

Yeah, well...I kinda with some of the OP's points, yet I see the other side. I sympathize with BW. The ME3 presentations weren't bad at all, BUT they were highly average and forgettable when compared with what the other devs were packing.

By not putting more of the RPG elements and customization at the forefront, the casual observer is left with a third person shooter with a light-brown color palette and some aliens (JUST talking about the footage shown). Big deal--PS3 owners can go play SOCOM 4 (no aliens, but oh well) and XBOX owners are too busy drooling for Gears 3. Both have multiplayer. "Eff a holo-shank!"

Kinect-enabled? "**** your voice commands, these dudes over here have Dance Central 2, and mutha-****** LIGHTSABERS, and-and MADDEN AND FIFA, and I can go to DISNEYLAND or CHILL with THE COOKIE MONSTER."

But...but...the game looks pretty, and the scope is pretty big. Whoopy-doo. MW3 has underwater **** and even looks better than Black Ops did. Battlefield 3 had an epic tank demonstration with what are probably the best graphics most have ever seen.

So, hopefully they have great promotional material in the wings to insure the potential fans aren't lost in the wake of MW3, BF3, Skyrim, The Old Republic, etc. Otherwise, word-of-mouth will do the heavy lifting.

So what you're saying is that ME3 showed it has the combat that's slightly inferior to Gears & SOCOM 4, graphics and scope comparable to MW3, and an outrageuously epic scope. As in, ME3 is a lot like 3 top tier games in 1? That's the impression it would leave people with?

Regarding using a Male Soldier Shepard it is the most played class in ME2 according to the data Bioware showed a few months ago.

I am not too worried about not seeing a lot of roleplaying elements yet, the game is still a ways off and its E3, they try and show the gloss of a game and not the substance, which seemed to be the way of most of the presentations to me. With that said if I understood everything on Monday there are still two more demos for Mass Effect 3 to be shown at E3, those might have at least weapon customization demonstrations.

Honestly, sifting through all of the repeated buzzwords and PR bullcrap at this E3 has been almost unbearable.  I love Bioware, I love all their games, but in my humble opinion, their ME3 stuff at E3 was poorly handled.  Maybe it's EA's fault, maybe not, but it was awful nonetheless.

1. Soldier Shepard gameplay only; not even a hint of other classes
2. "Visceral," "huge," "awesome;"  these words are great, but try not to use them 50 billion times; give some credit to the consumer, we are all not a bunch of herpy derp morons.  Don't you often say that the appeal of the Mass Effect series is its intelligence?  I think it's ok to assume its fan base is at least mildly intelligent.
3. Not even an image, tease, or example of any of the "deep customization" improvements.  I mean, wasn't that the MAIN complaint of ME2?  I loved the game, but when one single complaint emerges in such a stand out way, to me it makes sense to address the fix as soon as possible.  Could they not have showed us even ONE weapon mod?  Not even ONE new example of an evolved talent/skill?  Nothing?  Really????
4. Conversation non-existent.  Showing Shepard choose between comforting a small child or dismissing him does not illustrate Mass Effect's strength of the dialogue wheel.  What about an actual, branching conversation?

Just my little rant.  Who knows, maybe Bioware will have more for us tomorrow, but I doubt it based on what they have chosen to do so far.

Underlined, bolded, and italicized the most important item on that list. It should be number one.

Considering they developed the conversation wheel, they seem to be going great lengths to simplify it, or remove it all together with the auto dialogue.
