I thought Jack's romance scene in the cabin was actually romantic. For all the perceived lack of actual bump and grind at least the emotional connection is there. Isn't that important?

If Bioware actually wants to include sex in their love scenes, by all means they can go ahead and run with it. It's not like they're incapable of doing it, it's whether or not the content makes it on disc without some suit cutting it out of the picture. For all we know the animators plugged a bunch of stuff in and the cinematic artists went nuts with all the possible angles they can shoot, but someone higher up the chain went, NOPE. NO CAN DO. YOU'RE GONNA HAVE TO REDO THAT FROM SCRATCH. THIS TIME. WITH CLOTHES ON.

i think you have to make it meaningful enough to feel (lol) satisfied after the scene. yes that came out wrong
but you understand you have to feel immersed enough in the moment you know.

just think back to ME1.... it works for this reason

I agree with you.  What makes a scene work is the way it draws a player in, the way it immerses them in the feelings of their character and gives an emotionally-satisfying payoff if the relationship with the LI grows deeper.  This can be achieved with or without sex, but if sex is involved then let's make it tasteful.

Not against nudity if its tastefully done like ME1 was but TBH I thought the likes of Garruse romance scene were they don't even do anything was much better than scenes from ME1 and they don't need to show sex.

Precisely this.  Mind you, I'd have liked Garrus's scene to be longer (and could've done without the Flux music), but otherwise I think it hits the nail on the head.

And I find it sad that this is probably the best example of romance outside of the sex scene between the two in the game.

You are welcome to think that it's the best, but actually other moments are better than this for me.  But I'd spoil the plot much too much if I mentioned them here.  I'll PM you.

I always thought of Geralt as still unsure about things that are going on, like the wars, people trying to kill him, his mixed feelings for getting some memories back of Yennefer, and hes trying to sort it all out. Triss just seems like the 'cool' type of girlfriend that is giving him his space until he does.

I'd agree with this interpretation.  Won't add anything more for fear of going further off-topic though.

ME1 sex screens are much better than Me2. Looks like Fox News had some affect on BW after all.

Fox News also killed all the unicorns, banned fairies and is the cause behind global warming. Image IPB

The reason sex sucked in ME2 was because Liara, Ash & Kaiden weren't your choices.

They obviously understand that sex is better with no clothes Image IPB

wrong good sir... did you see the Liara romance scene in ME2? i think not...

LotSB was just a small cookie thrown at us ... a good cookie, but a small cookie. Besides, it would have been better if that dang Kelly hadn't come in dressed like an asari stripper with fish food. Image IPB

I'm not concerned with whether there's nudity or not; I thought three out of four of DA:O's romance scenes were cute (I will never, ever, be able to deal with Zevran's without laughing myself sick) and the DA:2 ones I thought were nice segueways. I agree that showing, in some aspect, that there is a physical component of the relationship is important- I guess I'm just not too bothered with how they do.

(Not that I'd object if there was some sort of 'hastily disrobing while trying to make it to the bed scene- the romantic/lulz aspect would be fun.)

All I want is a) to have some sort of acknowledgment that it happened, aka the post-sex talk and B) that it's not a 'end of the world- hit the sheets' situation again. If they want a final romance scene before the big battle, cool- I think it makes sense- but having talked to some other people who rp more than I do, the ability to have a consistent physical relationship helps with immersion. I'm not saying they need to code five separate scenes, but something more like DA:O- 'wanna meet up in my tent? :D :D' and then a fade to black.

Slightly related: Can we actually have more acknowledgement that the relationship exists, aside from hilariously awkward advice from Mordin and Kasumi making one comment? Dammit, I want to know what Joker thinks! Hilarious advice from the pilot pls!

<_< No.  Bioware is smarter than that.  But my point is... well, how much do you really have to see?  There's... artwork sites for that stuff, lol.  For the record, I'm fine with ME1-style or ME2-style.

Enough to make certain that they're not just hugging.  Take for instance the Garrus "sex" scene.  It ends with bowing heads to each other.  Intimate, but certainly not giving the sense of carnal intimacy.  The scene doesn't have to be raw and animalistic, nor does it have to be tender teenager fantasy, to convey what you intend.

There is something to be said for "leaving to the imagination", but that does not mean fading to black.

Specifically?  Things like carresses on unclothed body parts.  Unclothed body parts that are sometimes associated with pleasure.  Two bodies together in passionate embrace.  Things like that.  It can be tasteful and give a sense that the parties involved are mature beings.

Slightly off-topic, but I made a FemShep (my only FemShep) just so I can see how the relationship with Garrus plays out. Garrus... is cool.

Jack's quickie was actually fun ... I wish that you could do something like that with your real romantic partner during the mission. I don't want to have just one tryst and only right before the last mission.

Garrus in the med bay with the candlestick Image IPB  ... oh, wait. Wrong game.

I'm fine with that.  And hell, what was that playful line after Ash in ME1?  Drop and give me 20?  Something like that.  Anyway, I liked it.

First off, I agree with everyone about ME 1 doing amazing love scenes - including the dialog afterwards. The conversation with Kaidan is interupted by Joker over the intercom, and there is almost a sense of loss. I actually felt kind of sad/moved afterwards. (Even though I don't really care for Kaidan's character all that much, it really added something to his character.)

There are a lot of interesting variables I can imagine that developers have to consider when creating a sex scene.

I'd imagine a very huge obstacle is making sex scenes an emotional experience used to create stronger bonds between two characters, not just a chance to show some flesh. You also have to consider how your work is going to impact the gaming community. There is already a HUGE stereotype about videogames only being for 13 year old boys. I'm a 21 year old female and I will say - I get some STRANGE looks when I tell people I play videogames (usually people in my professional / academic life). The way sex is handled in a lot of games is crippling to the industry.

So dispite what a lot of people entering this forum think about people needing to get girlfriends/boyfriends irl - that should be the least of your concerns. Sex is a hot topic in America and I really want to see more mature attempts at expressing that bond between two people. I think ME1 was great, and it upsets me that in ME2 they made a lot of the scenes over dramatic and less intimate. Thane, Jacob, and Miranda. I'm looking at you.

EDIT
Dare to compare?

I'm surprised at how overwhelmingly positive this thread is. Hopefully Bioware will give us a bit more skin (maybe Ashley's rack, betwen Jack's legs, Kaiden's wang or Tali's face, especially the latter but seeing Tali without a helmet might offend Fox News). As long as there's no actual penetration, it's still within the context of an M rating.

I don't think any video game has ever shown any wang.

Problem with dressed characters is this - you have to reveal/strip'em to show the passion...
When they are naked - you have to cover them with shadow and light, camera angles, objects. I prefer that approach, its more suitable imo.

Both serve the same purpouse - an imitation of intercourse. You know what you are looking at, theres no denying they are having sex. So why the clothes? Is DEV team short on skin textures? ;P

Sex will never be that good again. How can you beat the Ilos Run after running through Ash or Liara?

You simply can't.

Dante's Inferno
Rampage World Tour
Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned
Custer's Revenge

and there's screencaps of a (very nice) full frontal Ethan from Heavy Rain that were supposedly originally in the game, but cut with pesky camera angles at the last minute. (we still get to see the rest of him though. ;)

And.... that's about all I can think of. It's EXTREMELY rare, but full frontal male nudity has happened from time to time.

They could show full frontal male nudity of Garrus without showing wang.

A win-win-win situation. Fangirls get their 'squee', dudes don't have to look at his throbbing, desperate tumescence and Bioware gets a crapload of money.

They should introduce Paragon and Renegade choices right before the love scene, which lead to either a romantic or a sexy love scene.
