Did you play the game? If not, you may not be aware that the set up actually takes place over a much longer period. Geralt and Triss can have a pre-existing relationship from TW1 (I imported a save where Geralt had only slept with Triss in that game as well) and even at the start of the game (depending on one's RPing choices) the two can be seen to want to get away from political entanglements and just be together. Triss goes with Geralt to the elven ruins to find a rare plant (the rose of remembrance) that could help him recover from his amnesia and she is shown to care enough for him that she'd risk losing him (as he's implied to have had a serious relationship with another woman before he lost his memories) if that's what it takes to help him. Geralt can tell her he loves her and give her one of the roses, showing that his present life with her matters as much as his lost memories. There's a confrontation with some thugs trying to loot the area that devolves into violence when one of them insults Triss (you can see Geralt deciding to kick their asses after they use a certain taboo word to refer to her) and it's in the aftermath of the fight that they fall into the part of the ruin with the large sunken bath. There's a huge amount of relationship set up for this scene; it isn't just something that happens out of the blue with a few moments of contrived introduction.
I didn't play Witcher 1, so I didn't have a saved game. I did play Witcher 2, and I thought that the "relationship" between Triss and Geralt was practically nonexistent. The only reason I thought that Triss and Geralt actually *had* a relationship was because
everyone but Triss and Geralt told me they had a relationship.
I really *tried* to like Triss. I have a soft spot for women who are honest about their feelings, and I read up on her and really wanted to like her. I chose every Triss-oriented romance option I could find through the entire game, and yet she still never talked or acted like anything besides Geralt's sister for practically any scene besides the sex scene. It made that scene feel like it came out of nowhere, then just disappeared back into nowhere.
I don't want to go into spoilers here for fear of veering off topic, but if the sex scenes in ME3 like the ones in the
Witcher 2, it will be all the NPCs telling us how much Shep and her LI are in love, Shep and her LI talking like siblings for most of the game, having sex once, then never speaking of it again.
