Well, we all have our preferances.

Well, considering I have yet to see a sex scene in any video game done properly (with the one possible exception of the Brotherhood scene), yes; yes I prefer cuddles.
At least cuddles doesn't look quite so horribly awkward you must look away for fear of laughing and/or groaning at the screen.

I'm no prude, but truly mature depictions of sexuality in this medium are few and far between. And what examples there are seldom delve into actual sex.

Actually, call me crazy, but I think DA2 handled the pre/post sex scenes perfectly. It just sucks we never got to see the actual good stuff. :/

Yeah, there's nothing awkward about this, on any level(s).

*snip*

While certainly awkward, that's not really the point, and I think you know that.
A technical oversight visible for a few seconds I can deal with. A prolonged sequence of polygon cervixes bouncing into eachother...that requires a lot more leniency.

I edited my post so as to include Isabela's scene, which I do think is excellent. I have only seen fractions of the other ones so far, however, so I'm not going to speak for those.

You know you're posting on a video game forum, don't you?  In what other context would we discuss sex while remaining on-topic?

Fidget6 wrote...

Yes.

When the story of said game involves
romances then yes, it should be an important aspect. Not the most
important one, but an important one nonetheless.

You should all consider getting a boyfriend/girlfriend. :?

Alright, alright forget TW2. I still like what ME1 did. What's wrong with that?

Thanks for the mention of the AC:B scene. It's quite nicely done. I especially liked the brief "pillow talk" part (though how they get dressed so quickly afterwards is hilariously mind-boggling).

And yes... if we're going to have cuddling in our scenes, let's avoid horribly stick-thin/distorted females and vacantly-staring men. That Hawke/Merrill moment creeps me out to this day.

Truly, your refutation of our arguments is masterful.

Very well put.

Honestly I'd rather have more dialogue options before and after than a really long scene. Emotional resonance please.

Well, we all have our preferances.

As cringe worth as Leliana's DA:O love scene was... Her post coital after talk made up for it a million times over.  It's one of the things DA2 got right as well.  Sex is two people getting closer, more then people want to admit sometimes, and dialog after that event is crucial to see how things work out.

IMO

@ Estelindis And for the record no I did not play TW2 (because I don't have a computer that can handle it's sheer "awesomeness") and I'm glad to hear theres some build up to the scene, but honestly I wouldn't know that because of how the scene is presented...

Otherwise I do agree that some more physicality should be shown.  If ME1 and DA2 had deh smex and made a baby in that sense I would be happy.

Meh, I've had boyfriends and I've found, at least at this point in my life I'm happier single. I'll just stick with my virtual romances for now. Less of that pesky real-life drama to deal with.

If sex in a video game is all you'll ever want, then I truly pity you. You should definitely try to go outside a little more often.

Completely agree with you here.  Leliana had the sweetest post-coital talk by far and that showed the bond between her and the Warden more effectlvely than any other aspect of the scene.  Much as I love Kaidan's ME1 romance, "JOKER'S WAITING FOR YOU ON THE BRIDGE" can hardly compete.  ;)

This is not a forum for discussing all I'll ever want.  This is a forum for discussing video games.

Personal pet peeve, lose the clothes if you are going to have a sex scene. I don't care if you show nudity, but don't have "afterward" with them fully clothed, or sexy underwear. Use bedsheets or something of the sort to hide them if you don't want nudity, but make it plain that they got naked and didn't just do a fake humping through clothes like a bad b-movies sex scene. It annoyed me to no end seeing DA:O with underwear one having so called sex, and the DA2 weren't any better about it. At least in ME1, you know they were naked and while it wasn't explicit it was better than any other scene I have seen in a game yet.

BioWare didn't have the quad to do it right in ME2.
A game full of death, destruction, and splattery exploding pyros, and yet they couldn't do sex scenes beyond a bit of selective toplessness?

I was a little disappointed... as well done otherwise some of the romances may have been, it just seemed like BW chickened out at the end.

I support a return of something on the level of ME1's scenes... but just make sure Shep stays in bed naked after the deed...
I never understood why Shep always ended up fully clothed sat on the desk... never...
Surely camera placement shouldn't be too hard for post-sex conversation?

Big words, my friend. Especially on a gaming forum. Make sure to shout this out the next movie you see with a sex scene. Sure to boost your ego.

Yes to ME tasteful sex scenes with extended for Tali sense she's got the suit and no to ME2 fade to black. And can we have dialogue before and after sex please? I want to see and hear how much shep loves his/her LI and how much they do him/her. You can also keep the option to skip it like you had in ME.

Did you play the game?  If not, you may not be aware that the set up actually takes place over a much longer period.  Geralt and Triss can have a pre-existing relationship from TW1 (I imported a save where Geralt had only slept with Triss in that game as well) and even at the start of the game (depending on one's RPing choices) the two can be seen to want to get away from political entanglements and just be together.  Triss goes with Geralt to the elven ruins to find a rare plant (the rose of remembrance) that could help him recover from his amnesia and she is shown to care enough for him that she'd risk losing him (as he's implied to have had a serious relationship with another woman before he lost his memories) if that's what it takes to help him.  Geralt can tell her he loves her and give her one of the roses, showing that his present life with her matters as much as his lost memories.  There's a confrontation with some thugs trying to loot the area that devolves into violence when one of them insults Triss (you can see Geralt deciding to kick their asses after they use a certain taboo word to refer to her) and it's in the aftermath of the fight that they fall into the part of the ruin with the large sunken bath.  There's a huge amount of relationship set up for this scene; it isn't just something that happens out of the blue with a few moments of contrived introduction.

I didn't play Witcher 1, so I didn't have a saved game. I did play Witcher 2, and I thought that the "relationship" between Triss and Geralt was practically nonexistent. The only reason I thought that Triss and Geralt actually *had* a relationship was because everyone but Triss and Geralt told me they had a relationship.

I really *tried* to like Triss.  I have a soft spot for women who are honest about their feelings, and I read up on her and really wanted to like her. I chose every Triss-oriented romance option I could find through the entire game, and yet she still never talked or acted like anything besides Geralt's sister for practically any scene besides the sex scene. It made that scene feel like it came out of nowhere, then just disappeared back into nowhere.

I don't want to go into spoilers here for fear of veering off topic, but if the sex scenes in ME3 like the ones in the
Witcher 2, it will be all the NPCs telling us how much Shep and her LI are in love, Shep and her LI talking like siblings for most of the game, having sex once, then never speaking of it again.

Fair enough.  To a certain extent, I see what you mean - but, while I may have emoted more into some scenes (not described here) than the material warranted, every bit of lead-up I mentioned in my post did actually happen (at the beginning of the game, when Geralt discusses getting his memories back, etc., plus more spoileriffic stuff I didn't mention).  That doesn't mean, however, that I view TW2 as some kind of uber-paragon of videogame romance that never needs to be exceeded.  I said I wanted similar or better.  If I was to name an uber-paragon (which I'd still like to be exceeded, even if I doubt ME3 is the game to do it), it would have to be the relationship between my city elf warden and Alistair in DA:O, which is ironic considering that DA:O's underwear-clad sex scenes go rather against the wishes expressed in this topic.  But, as has already been pointed out, sex should be just one way of showing intimacy between characters.  It isn't a cure-all for a lack of intimacy.

One should not have to resort to fanfiction in her head in order to provide an emotional connection between characters. I see that as a huge failing of the Witcher 2, and one of my goals going into the game was to get Triss and Geralt together.
