Is it so bad when they don't?

Why? There are good looking elves, and bad looking elves. Just like humans. Just like, erm, Dwarves, I guess.

Just because Elves being a race of plastics is a staple, doesn't mean they have to be a race of plastics.

Just the same i think we can agree the design is highly controversial --seeing the opinions divide-- and that's not as good as universal acclaim?

I think the major issue is the fidelity of the design. Bioware only spent time making the major elves look good which left us with a bunch of rather shoddily designed NPCs. If all of the NPCs were treated with the same level of quality, which is something we had in DA:O for the most part, then I don't think the divide would be so wide.

What.

I thought being slim was a staple of mainstream elves.

they also have horrible giraffe necks

Some do, some don't

and ugly shape of body how you can tell they are good looking?

Some are better looking, others are unattractive. Just like every other race.

just see the merril romance scene...

Hmm, I think there's a delightfully stu-- hilarious quote somewhere back in this thread that could be used here. Let's go find it.

I`m a faily decent looking man but i can pretty much find picture where i
look  horrible.Be it the angle or because i was tired to death or had a
bad haircut or wearing very ugly thing. That pic of Cammen is just
horrible.

Just replace Cammen with Merril.

I've been saying this for a long time now. Bioware only spent time developing the elves that actually mattered.

There were also ugly elves in Origins.

The faces I'd agree it's just the minor NPCs which are a problem.  But that doesn't apply to the disturbingly thin bodies.

The internet is proof enough that there are folks out there who like and enjoy even the most vile and disgusting things you can imagine.  That doesn't make them good.  (I'd give examples but that would probably get me banned  )

I agree that the playable characters are better looking than the NPCs, but the playable characters are still butt-ugly, IMO.

Sorry, but I still think Merrill looks like a goat. I thought the elves looked fine in DA:O.

Why can't the elves look a little something like this? Not too much like a human, quite whimsical-looking, and easy on the eyes:

I'd say that's part of it (although one could argue that if your "average" elf is shoddy looking and it takes significant effort to make them look good, then there's perhaps something about the base shape)  At the same time, there's factors like body proportions and poor animation which are universal to elves across the board, and equally controversial by the looks of it. And that's not the fidelity but the basics of the design.

Imagine her with less hair and more armor, and I think she'd make a fantastic elf as well:

Shiny, scantily-clad anime-inspired elves kind of don't fit within our setting, don't you think? The ones in the image are kinda creepy, in a "be one of us, Gerald" kind of way.

How I wish elves looked in the early concept art. Why is it that BioWare can never live up to its concept art on any level?

Where's this from -- who's the artist behind it those three non-Warden characters? (Meaning the human, elf and qunari.) Interesting, yet familiar style. Posted Image

I really hope that Bioware does NOT go back to the "slightly shorter humans with pointy ears".... i prefered the new look of the elves. I think Bioware just needs to tweak things a bit but they are going in the right direction. Most of these pictures people are posting look like human swim suit models with pointy ears. >.>

Elves have looked like humans with pointy ears since the beginning of time. So, yeah, that's kind of what people expect to see in a game featuring elves. Not some stupid goat/elf hybrid.

Which is why I said they needed more clothing...so they didn't look like swimsuit models.

Were I playing the PC version of Origins and could take snapshots freely, I'd spam this thread like clockwork. As it is, I can only show a few. Deygan and Cammen I've already shown, but then there's Valora from the CE origin:

I don't think I've ever seen an incarnation of a pirate that didn't wh*re themselves around, so I'm not seeing your point here.

I never said they had to look exactly like that. Considering that I didn't draw the pictures myself, they are not exact representations of where I would like to see Bioware go with the elf character design. The pictures are to serve merely as rough examples. Obviously.

Completely missed the point of my post.
